I hope my club's coaches and players are watching so they can see what proper service looks like. Schweiny set Gomez up perfectly both times.

It's a niche enough product here as it is they don't have to rebrand for Americans. Not like we'd have fun doing our MLS squads with all the salary restrictions, so everyone that plays knows their European footy.

I like to play online but I need to complete my quest to get St. Pauli into the Champions League in FIFA.

St. Pauli horrible fans? Interesting how different people in different places think. I always thought they were held in high regard, but that's largely based on experience within my supporter's group where they are held as one of the standard bearers of how we wish to be viewed.

They are anti-hooligan/anti-racist/anti-fa/anti-sexist/anti-homophobia (some of which is in the team's charter) and I'm sure that has lead to conflict, but they're also known for having one of the largest female supporter contingents and are also loved in the arts community. 11 million fans in Europe, there's bound to be a few jerks.

yeah, pretty much. every left-winger in Germany is a fan of St. Pauli's. they have established themselves as not only the club with the most liberal fanbase, but also the club with the funniest fanbase:

(that was a t-shirt they made when Pauli beat Bayern München, after they had just won the Intercontinental Cup)

basically, you can do no wrong in supporting Pauli. can't recall any instances of them being actively involved in hooliganism either. their ultras usually only get attacked by fascist hools from other teams.

football manager! do you not have it in amarica??
Just checked the website for this, and it looks amazingly addicting! Might have to try it out in the future. Not sure if I would enjoy playing with a MLS squad, to be honest with you, as I feel it would be more fun to play with, lets say, an squad from England, one that is in the lower rankings of the country, and work my way up to the EPL. I'd totally be up to that challenge!!!

Promotion and relegation. You guys take it for granted I'm sure, it is probably the top 1 or 2 most discussed issue in the US soccer pyramid along with the salary cap.

oh of course i like it no teams going bust... being a kings fan if there was relegation in this sport where whould we be ;)
The counter argument is that the Maloofs are running the team cheap and leeching off the television rights and revenue sharing and if there was a threat of relegation they could not do that.

We see the same thing in MLS, teams that aren't putting forth their best effort, maybe some of the original teams that aren't in the best markets are able to finally recoup some of their initial investment in the league 17 years ago and won't bring in top level talent. Of course that doesn't always translate to success, right now LA Galaxy are at the bottom of the table.

I don't know about the world football phone in. I mostly listen to podcasts every so often, and mostly I'm heavily invested in my club its mainly during the offseason I turn to the other leagues.

Tonight my band Green Flag is playing, we're a supporter's punk rock band. Super psyched. Even after Ireland bombed..

With good reason. We have too many teams not investing in their product, gladly waiting for a player or two from the draft(which imo should be abolished), and not investing in youth to the extent they should, and worse of all, there's a comfort knowing you can't get relegated which is why we sometimes see considerable less effort/intensity compared to Europe.

I despise the MLS draft. In soccer any and every club should put a premium on their youth academy and development, but when they can instead just sit there and wait for 2-3 top prospects to be handed to them every year, the incentive to go all out with youth development vanishes. Don't even have a functioning reserve league or a working relationship with the USL or NASL to loan out younger players for frequently.

I don't see promotion or relegation working here for awhile, but imo there's way too much comfort in MLS. I just don't like a closed system for soccer, where a tiered system is much better for overall development with many more clubs competing to move up the ladder with an emphasis on development, and because of the larger number of clubs in a tiered system with the possibility of promotion, have their hands all over the youth in their neighboring cities, whereas here if you're not from one of the 18 cities with an MLS team or academy as a youngster, you're screwed.

As for the Euro's, I have a tough time rooting against Germany as I love their style, love the Bund, love their system, love their movement, and I'm not sure anyone can beat them when they're clicking. Plus, Ozil is one of my favorite players. His vision combined with tech ability to pull off many of the passes he does is something to watch. Also happy for Torres today as he's been killed in the media for over a year now, and much of it unfair imo. Chelsea didn't know how to use him(he's not good with a partner, especially a Drogba type), and whether it's with Chelsea or Spain, neither coach seems to give him much of a chance to succeed in getting his confidence back. For awhile now it seems he won't get a start for 3-4 weeks, finally does, and if he doesn't score is right back to being a sub, frequently not even used.

Oh well, more fun tomorrow. Thought this thread needed another opinion. :)

But the draft is a joke, maybe a half dozen good players come out of it. The best young players in the league right now are coming from South America on transfers.

The academy system is still pretty new, but we'll see a lot more home grown players come out of the teams who are investing. Portland has already signed one or two, plus several of their U23s who did not qualify as HGP are on the roster. And to further intensify the Cascadian rivalry Portland and Seattle are fighting over Southern Washington and who gets to claim players from Vancouver, WA which is Portland metro but WA state.

I was kinda rooting for the Swedes, I guess I watched too much Milan this year and got a soft spot for Ibrahimovic, but "You're sh-- but your birds are fit" was a nice chant by the UK supporters.
