Still can't settle on one. I think I'd choose Liverpool but everyone I know hates them. Things going for them - Red Sox ownership, Irish element, they just took Swansea's manager who I was inclined to like because of his Elvis night... The other teams in the running would be West Ham and Fulham or maybe Newcastle. I kind of prefer underdogs and those fit the bill plus as long as Dempsey is with Fulham I'll root for them.
right liverpool... no just dont go there they think there a massive club and are hated by everyone else

Newcastle dont do it please just dont support them... please

Fulham... the demster is leaving and IMO they will get relegated this season

West ham anouther team people dislike <laugh>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

can i ask what things you look for to choose your team?? and maybe i can give you an indication which team i think will fit you (might help :) ??)

Not a mega club. Great supporters, interesting/unique tifo & songs. If the ultras are political prefer it to be anti-racist/anti-fa bent. Reasonable likelihood to watch their games in the States - I try to follow VfB Stuttgart but only get about 6-8 games in the season if that. St. Pauli and Celtic are two others I like and those are a lost cause, outside of the Old Firm stream.

Why not Arsenal? They keep it young, fresh and always play good. Not an underdog per se but certainly among the top pack.
It can be difficult to root for a team that is never going to win anything when it's not from your area.

i think you should concider my team sunderland

young team who has great history but is not a top team by any means we got into the PL sgsin sfter lots of relegations and years of lower league football... under the new manager martin o'neil we can be back up there again the derbys are massive games vs newcastle (the atmosphere is much better then anything) and it is a football first area where fans dispite money problems come out in there droves (35-45k a week) i dont know what you mean by songs we have some great chants and songs by the supporters?? and we are on TV quite often your way i think

Pro for Arensal - their kit resembles my clubs' second. Can watch in the Champions league.

Cons - admittedly minor, they are "big 4" but hanging by a thread. My buddy Steve likes them, we hate each others' teams outside of the Timbers.

They are definitely the least objectionable of the EPL teams that will be playing in the Champions League next year.

Well like I said Sunderland and Portland have a friendship, though it was before my time. If the games are on I'll check them out.

We have Aston Villa coming next month, I have played a few games on FIFA with them and had an ok time. West Brom came out last year, I guess I wouldn't rule out either of them.

Interesting that the link you posted linked the Kings to Nottingham Forest. I managed to really cheese off a Nottingham guy on FIFA beating him with my lowly MLS squad. We have the rights to Robbie Findlay if he ever comes back to the MLS, hopefully we'd move him for something more useful.

My team is hovering around last place, lost to an expansion club (which is probably worse than losing to a newly promoted club) and then lost to a Division 5 squad in our domestic cup. I couldn't love them any more, so I know what you're saying.

this is a canadian speaking about his love for sunderland having never been

http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=707860

we were relegated by our bitter bitter rivals newcastle and they were singing "your going down, going down, going down" this was the end for us no money and no future and the players having to be sold off but in the 45,000 strong crowd a united voice sung back "we know we are, we know we are, we know we arrrrre" even they had to laugh

The poor Canadian fellow doesn't have a local club to support? I really only cared about international for years until I got stuck into the Timbers then I got curious about other leagues.

If anything it does seem Sunderland supporters would be a fun group to share a few pints with. I guess we sent about 33 out there in 2006, which was my first full year in Portland so well before my time. Farthest I've gone for the boys is Montreal which I think is just under 3k miles. Hopefully they tour Europe one day soon.

Our season ticket holders night is tonight, the first event since our embarrassing US Open Cup defeat, it will be interesting I'm sure.

What is wrong with Chelsea :)

I don't follow the EPL as much, but Chelsea is my team over there. I really like the World Cup and Euro Cup, obviously, and would choose International soccer over anything else.

The MLS can be a good time... cheap/good seats and the talent is improving. I go to a decent amount of Revs games each year. Matt Reis and Shalrie Joseph usually makes the games entertaining enough for me.

I wish they would move the Revs to Boston proper, they'd get great support in town with easy access. I was there when MLS started so always had a soft spot but when I moved the games were still tape delayed and shown after midnight on ESPN2 which was still trying to be the edgy X-games channel then.

Chelsea are pretty firmly on my don't like list. No reason except they are.

After watching almost all of the first games of this Euro, I believe Germany may be the team to beat.. They just seem primed for the big time. Spain didnt look as sharp

She was before she signed with the Sounders women
Well yes, I shall agree with you, pdxKingsFan, because she was definitely hot before she signed with the Sounders women. She has definitely stayed hot even after signing with the Sounders women. And, to be honest with you, I don't see her stopping anytime soon...

they looked dodgy IMO baring in mind portugal should have got a draw at least i think it will be Croatia...
dodgy is putting it nicely. ever since that loss vs. France in that prep match a couple of months ago, we've looked pretty much horrible. the loss against the Swiss and that uninspiring 2-0 against Israel were just symptoms of a larger issue. it's probably got something to do with a large portion of the team playing for München and having just finished a very disappointing season. right now, the only ones playing solidly are Hummels, Boateng and Neuer (just realised that it's still 3 Bayern players...so much for that theory, although Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Müller and Badstuber still didn't look good) and the only thing really going for the team is being massively lucky. Portugal should've at least gotten a draw out of that game and really should've scored two goals and just won. I do hope the team will find a rhythm tonight, I'll definitely be watching closely.

Im from Bristol and support Bristol City in the Championship (league below the EPL). I dont support a premier league team but still watch it every week. Football is my first sport so id like to chip in with my views.

From your description the first team i thought of were Newcastle (sorry Uk kings fan). Big team but not top 5 they recently got relegated but were promoted the following season. The fans in that part of the country (the north east) are renowned as some of the best. Great rivalry with sunderland which is always a plus in my view.

The problem is I dont know how much coverage you get over there so its hard to suggest a team that you will get to see regularly.

My thoughts on other teams...

Liverpool- Pros. Massive history, massive fanbase, rich american owners, lots of rivalries, fighting for europe. Cons. Horrible accent, living in the past, contender for most hated team in england.

Everton- Pros. Brilliant manager, consistant top half finishers. Cons. No money/investment, traditionally the smaller team in liverpool.

If you wanted to watch winning teams Man City, Man Utd or Chelsea will be the dominant top3 for the next few years in my opinion.

In case you cant tell i love talking football so sorry if I rambled a bit.

I am supporting Germany (and Ireland while they last) and tend to agree and they had a bad run of form in the most recent stretch of friendlies. Is it the Bayern thing? maybe.

We get a lot of EPL and Serie A with Bayern and Real/Barca sprinkled in. Mostly focused around the big teams but still plenty of opportunity to catch the others especially in the EPL. I could never root for the Manchesters or Chelsea. I like a challenge, but it would be nice to root for a team with an outside chance at making some noise.

Yep i think so but also teams dont really try in freindlys because they are picking/playing there 23 man squad
Of course, but the last few friendlies are generally taken a little more seriously than others. Who knows, but their advancement is far from certain at this stage.

well, so far Schweinsteiger and Gomez have managed to shoot my "all München players suck now" theory to pieces. not that I complain ;)
