Fresno King

Starter
As a die-hard Kings fan I have these thoughts:

Why not consider Reggie Theus for the head coaching position? He's the head coach at New Mexico State, and worked under Rick Pitino at Louisville. Everyone loved him when he played in Sac, he's the perfect public relations person the Maloofs are looking for, and he'll get instant respect in the locker room since he's a former player. It would be a very popular choice, in my opinion. I do wonder if he's a defensive minded coach. There is a $550-thousand dollar buyout in his New Mexico State contract if he chooses to pursue another job.

Why not trade Bibby and Miller for Garnett, convince Bonzi Wells to re-sign for 3 years instead of 5, and bring back now unrestricted free agent Bobby Jackson to start at the point? Jackson has always wanted to be a starter, and what better place to do it than Sac? Miller faded in the playoffs, but he's still great trade bait. I would miss Bibby and Team Dime, but if you can get KG for him, you have to make that move.

STARTING LINEUP IN MY WORLD (Not Marty Macs, thank God):

G-Bobby Jackson
G-Bonzi Wells
F-Ron Artest
F-Kevin Garnett
C-Vitaly Potapenko (any other ideas?)

Shareef, K-Mart, Francisco, Hart, and Williamson off the bench is pretty darn good. I don't like Potapenko starting at center though... Joel Pryzbella perhaps with Potapenko off the bench?

But... if Williamson's contract comes off the books, we should say good-bye once again, and bring him back as an assistant coach when he decides to retire. Petrie would save $6 million if The Big Nasty leaves.

Nice first post. Welcome.

As far as the "any other ideas" at center? If you have those four on the court, Bozo the one-legged monkey could probably do fairly well at the 5.

:D

Yeah good comments on Reggie Theus. Haven't had a whole lot of thought on him before. I really don't think that Garnett is possible though. The Bulls, among others, will be able to outbid us.

Garnett may not be possible, but - as my dear departed dad used to say - it doesn't cost any more to dream in technicolor.

;)

As far as Reggie Theus goes, I have to confess to a slightly biased opinion. He was my first FAVORITE Sacramento King. I would love to see him back here.

Actually Bibby/Reef/Garcia/Williamson/Potapenko/pick for KG/Jaric/Hudson/scrub works under the cap. We get Garnett, Wolves get their new PG and a cheap replacement for KG. Also lose the bad contracts of Jaric+THud. S&T Bonzi for someone(a PG?) and use the MLE, end up looking like this:

Someone/Martin/Artest/Garnett/Miller

bench:
THudson/Jaric/someone/KT/someone

bench has some holes I guess. Maybe Bonzi in a double S&T for JTerry? MLE on like Lorenzen Wright to come off the bench at the 5... and I just realized this is the wrong place to post this.

He is STILL my all time fav. King!!;) As is apparent in my avatar. Would love to see Reggie back here. The guy is still young, energetic, has great knowledge of the game, as he learned from a few of the all time great coaches in Cotton, Tark and Pitino. I think he would bring so much to this current team. But not sure what kind of ties they have with the Maloofs, etc. to possibly make him a candidate. Oh well, in a perfect world, eh?

Garnett as a King that would be something, and hey, one thing I've learned over the years is ANYTHING is possible in the NBA... anything.

Not sure about bringing back Bobby as a starter, he's too old and injury prone. Not sure any team would consider Bobby as a starter at his age. Although I wouldn't mind seeing him replace Hart at this point.

might aswell swap both rosters for one another while ur at it.

And why does McHale do this again? why does he trade perhaps the best player in the world today for our supporting cast? How on earth do they get better by making this trade?

You said "We get garnett, they get their new PG and a cheap replacement for KG". A PG would be very useful to them NOW to complement Garnett. By trading for a PG in your scenario would be to fill a hole by creating one thats 10x bigger by trading KG.

US, Kings fans, REALLY need to stop fantasyzing on KG because we're basically teasing ourselves. The only way he's getting traded anywhere is for high lottery pickS or young "can't-miss" talent. The Kings don't have that. No player on the Kings could possibly be of any interest to the Wolves without us trading away guys like Artest, Bonzi, Bibby, Miller in a huge package for a superstar that seems to have his years left in his prime numbered.

What about acquiring Nazr for the center position? He's a free agent this summer and the Spurs haven't even been giving him all that much PT during the playoffs.

Fantasizing about Kevin Garnett in TDOS (the Dreaded Off-Season) is a long-standing tradition around here. As I've pointed out in another thread, it wouldn't seem right if he wasn't occupying part of our thoughts...

If it's any comfort, this goes on at message boards dedicated to almost every other NBA team.

and technicolor dreams are really pretty to boot.

Theus is an attractive idea for coach.

I think that "someone" will be a perenial all star and a real stud. ;)
