Fresno King
Starter
As a die-hard Kings fan I have these thoughts:
Why not consider Reggie Theus for the head coaching position? He's the head coach at New Mexico State, and worked under Rick Pitino at Louisville. Everyone loved him when he played in Sac, he's the perfect public relations person the Maloofs are looking for, and he'll get instant respect in the locker room since he's a former player. It would be a very popular choice, in my opinion. I do wonder if he's a defensive minded coach. There is a $550-thousand dollar buyout in his New Mexico State contract if he chooses to pursue another job.
Why not trade Bibby and Miller for Garnett, convince Bonzi Wells to re-sign for 3 years instead of 5, and bring back now unrestricted free agent Bobby Jackson to start at the point? Jackson has always wanted to be a starter, and what better place to do it than Sac? Miller faded in the playoffs, but he's still great trade bait. I would miss Bibby and Team Dime, but if you can get KG for him, you have to make that move.
STARTING LINEUP IN MY WORLD (Not Marty Macs, thank God):
G-Bobby Jackson
G-Bonzi Wells
F-Ron Artest
F-Kevin Garnett
C-Vitaly Potapenko (any other ideas?)
Shareef, K-Mart, Francisco, Hart, and Williamson off the bench is pretty darn good. I don't like Potapenko starting at center though... Joel Pryzbella perhaps with Potapenko off the bench?
But... if Williamson's contract comes off the books, we should say good-bye once again, and bring him back as an assistant coach when he decides to retire. Petrie would save $6 million if The Big Nasty leaves.
