[Fantasy] 2008 WNBA Pick One Challenge

Back to Work...

Alrighty, the gold has been won, the flame has been extinguished...it's time for us Pick One Challengers to get back to business....remember to get your picks in this week - play resumes on Thursday!

Okeee....I *think* I took Harp on a night she got me at least 30 something points at some time during the pre-Olympic break portion of this game. I vaguely remember giving her props or at the very least not having this face the night I took her ....So let me say thanks to Crystal for matching her teammate's output for me tonight...Thanks Crystal :)

I went back to back with the Crystals this week and let me just say Ms Langhorne, though I love her as a player otherwise, did not get a :) face from me this week.

You know...I will take my 86 parkered points and like it even though it's not triple digits...thanks Candace, you slacker!....;)

If I get to the recap for last week tonight, it will go up tomorrow, otherwise look for it by Thursday.

Week Twelve Results

Eh...by "Thursday" I obviously meant a week later.

Musical accompaniment for this belated report on week twelve activity as the WNBA resumed play after a month long-break for the Olympic (and I try to write the longest runon sentence ever) is brought to us by Mel and Tim (or Sam and Dave, Hall and Oates or whoever else may have covered this song some at some point)…"Starting All Over Again..." It’s been rough…so rough…

Unfortunately, as play resumed, my ability to keep close tabs on the goings-on with our fantasy league remained on hiatus. So for weeks 12-13, I have zero stats on picks or analysis on trends.

But luckily, the first week back the scores were such that awarding green jackets would have bankrupted the war chest. I'm sorry to all of us who were in line for or had their hearts set on a green jacket, we must earn it the hard way ;)

What I can do however is hand out the hardware to Mamabristow who took the cup for the week with a blistering charge up the standings to take the second spot overall in the league. Jason Ross made a charge, but finished 21 points off the pace. As far as how she pulled it off? Here's the Cliff Notes version of my recap.....she had a whole lotta players consistently score a whole lotta points each day. ;)

Congrats MamaB!

Player update: Seimone Augustus and Candice Wiggins

Both Lynx players are out the the final two games of the regular season due to injuries sustained on Tuesday Full and speedy recovery to both.

If you have either still left (like say, um..I do) you may want to change to someone else.

I will add Candice Wiggins to my 2007 winner Tamika Catchings on my list of "Best Players I Lost To Injury By Saving Them To Late In The Season"

Um...thanks me for forgetting to change from Candice tonight..... :(

Well, we're about to put the wraps on the 2008 edition of the KingsFans.com Pick One Challenge season. Sunday's slate of games should be the last, I have no idea if they'll extend it through Monday because of the postponement, bless your heart if you planned for this scenario and saved Tina Thompson or Matee Ajavon as a just in case pick or something...:)

When I was rolling through the standings tonight, it looked like there might be some programming taking place to allow you to have one more week in your clubhouse, but when I clicked on it where I saw it, I got a page error...so again I dunno.

Anyways...my purpose for posting (in addition to diverting your attention away from the fact that I'm still a week behind in standings and awards) our race comes down to what seems to be a race for second place and jockeying for position in the top 10 or 15. Unless somebody pulls a 100 pt day out and that somebody is not mdme lol...mdme has likely clinched the title of our league. We'll see how things play out on Sunday, but it looks pretty safe to suggest that.

Now...our race for the silver and bronze is sure interesting. Jason Ross was making a play for silver and QueenBee for bronze, until Mamabristow got what I believe is Crystal Langhorne's best fantasy day to date and laid claim on the silver with the finish line in sight. So the jump that happened today, pushed Jason Ross off the medal stand, despite his otherwise solid week. But 10 pts separates him from 3rd and 31pts from 2nd as we head into the final day of games.

We have tight races everywhere within the top 10 and for those like me who are trying to move up or hang on to spots in the top 15.

The final day of the season, when teams with playoff berths secured will be resting (or protecting) players and teams looking to make assessments will be letting players come off the bench and play some big minutes...who ya got? Who can help you make your last move or hold off the charge?

Good luck all....Sunday should be fun to watch!

Pick One Extended...

One more day of pickin....if you haven't checked your clubhouse...you may want to do so before the game none of us wanted the Monarchs to have to play tips...Pick One has indeed been extended through Monday night's game.

Okeee.....as I have taken a look at the standings and calculated the stats on the final day.

mdme is still sitting in a clinch-worthy spot now to take the KF.com 2008 Pick One Championship. A 93 point lead with the Houston/Sacramento game left to play...mdme is also 18pts out of 4th place in the overall leaderboard...mdme also takes the final weekly cup with an 18pt win over the hard charging Jason Ross.

Now on to the rest of the field chasing for a spot on the KF.com 2008 medal stand....

MamaBristow held off KHTKer Jason Ross and his Elana Larkins pick Sunday and will go into Hou/Sac Monday with a 12pt lead to defend silver...QueenBee is 4pts behind Jason Ross in 4th.

There is a LOTTA jostling for position in spots 5-10. Luv13 has a 17 pt lead over Rdub for leader of the 1st chase pack with a group bunched up behind them. Players in spots 11-15 are also undergoing their own battles to move up.

Unofficial Standings Through Sunday - 9/14

  1. mdme - 1918
  2. MamaBristow - 1825
  3. KHTKer Jason Ross - 1813
  4. QueenBee - 1809
  5. Luv13fan - 1744
  6. Rdub21 - 1727
  7. 24lakers24 - 1701
  8. supadupapimp - 1697
  9. NothinButHoops - 1678
  10. Airfoil - 1672
  11. Hoopmatron - 1633
  12. Kreyn49 - 1627
  13. KHTKer Krista Blunk - 1625
  14. INeedMoreCowbell - 1622

  19. KHTKer Kevin Sherrets - 1442
  20. KHTKer Sean Cunningham - 1452
  21. KHTKer Jim Kozimor - 1247
The interesting play for Monday night, as players have come to learn to navigate throughout the season is the dreaded single game day. You had a chance to navigate it by being able to conserve your players to have a decent one to use on a day only one game is available from which to select a player.

Well...nobody planned for THIS one. So we're all kinda stuck with who we might have left who is (1) not injured (2) likely to play (3) likely to play meaningful minutes (4) likely to do something productive in those minutes (5) preferrably something productive - doubled.

Tall order eh? Sure it is....can you say..."Slim Pickens?"

Can you find somebody who nobody else has left, who can help you move up if you're close enough to move up? Can you hold someone off who is chasing you?

Spectators....stay tuned....

Pick One Challengers....good luck again to all...

[please let the flyer I'm taking on the player I have selected for today work out... :)]

Congrats to the medal winners...you all gave me some good strategies to use next year, since I was a rookie this year;)

Tonight for me, I'm gonna roll with a Monarch Rookie.....cuz MONARCH ROOKIES RULE!!!

It's all about the team now my ''''fantasy pick one''game is over....
One thing I can say is...I had fun!

Agreed. This was a ton of fun. I'll be down to go again next season. This being my first year, I made a few silly mistakes (one of which was trying to save LJ) but I hope to have a better showing next year.

As long as I finish ahead of Koz that's all I really care about. :D

Any suggestions? I still have KLaw, TDixon, and Aquo available. Was thinking of using KLaw but am not sure if JBoo decides to rest her today. Maybe Tamecka Dixon would be an option or maybe Aquo might get some PT if JBoo rests Ticha/KLaw?

What do you think?

I have noooooooooooooooooooobody that high on the fantasy food chain left, so I can't be of help there

Roneeka Hodges was the highest rated player I had left on the board today, I thought about taking her but Karleen Thompson will probably not play her at all today because she's crazy like that. I'm taking one player who if she actually gets to play tonight, should be able to get me 20 fantasy points. Aqua will play minutes regardless...as will most of the folks on the roster. We don't exactly subscribe to a philosophy that people who dress don't play. Especially if you consider the Monarchs are on a trip without Kim Smith and Chelsea Newton and Brunson is likely to not play tonight as well from the sounds of things on Saturday. So the Monarchs, team that plays 10 deep, are playing with a roster of 10 tonight, everybody's going to get minutes.

I'd guess some players will not play as much in the game as they would have if this game meant something and some players will play more.

Dixon and Thompson are about the only players for Houston who I think will see normal minutes tonight. They ran on Chicago and that game meant less than this game does...since they are one day closer to heading home or to parts of the earth unknown.

Your asking us for help...maybe we should be asking you;)

Well...NOW we're done....2008 season is officially wrapped up and we can officially crown mdme the champion. (well as soon as I get the tiffany crystal doodad jpg we can ;)).

MamaBristow finished with silver and Jason Ross with bronze after they both played (along with three others) Charel Allen tonight. I'll have some sort of award for the five of us who sprinted in this one game week behind the hard working high fantasy scorin' Charel Allen tonight.

Looks like Kara Lawson (mdme) and Matee Ajavon (Jim Kozimor) were the two highest ranked players left on the board for people to play, that was gutsy lol...

And it looked like only three people missed the memo about the added game - which out of 19-20 players isn't that bad.

Week 13, 14 and 15 awards up by Wednesday afternoon. Players...call the show on Wednesday and talk about the game.

mdme...you gonna be able to call Monarchs Talk? Other KF.comers, call and talk about your season....8pm time slot on Wednesday's Monarchs talk.
