[Fantasy] 2008 WNBA Pick One Challenge

My girl Nicki A., rookie wonder gave me a cool 40...thanks to her rebounding, still wish I could pick Wiggins more than once this season;)

Just the same same ,I still can't get in the top 10!
So don't feel bad MBF, you'll get up on my coat tails before to long.

Week Four Results

Week 4 was a good one and our musical accompaniment for this recap is courtesy of Kelly Clarkson… “Breakaway” as our new overall leader has pushed out to the biggest lead of the young season in our KingsFans.com league.

The latter part of week four welcomed two new players and seeing as we want to play fair, we added a kf.commer and a khtker. Welcome to McScrooge who laterally transferred in and nestled into the 13th spot and KTHKer Scott Marsh who started from scratch on Friday.

As noted in a previous post, we again came down to the wire on a tight race and for the second consecutive week had our leaders play the same player on Sunday and keep the status quo. But there was also a similar psychic vibe going on Saturday as well as it was unbeknownst to all of us, or at least all of us who did not get the super secret coordination memo that Saturday was our league’s official “Take Tan White or Katie Douglas” Day. Over half our league played one of those two players on Saturday.

Congratulations to mdme for taking the week in a tight race, Rdub followed as a close second and KTHKer Sean Cunningham parkered his way into 3rd holding off NothingButHoops and Kreyn49 who were not very far behind.

Nothing really notable in trends happened this week beyond the Indiana backcourt love on Saturday. But I will note the popular players:

(8) Katie Douglas
(6) Tan White and Swin Cash
(5) Plenette Pierson
(4) Diana Taurasi and Candice Dupree

The Cash register was empty this week as Swin just didn’t play all that well against her former team, at least compared to how fantasy productive she was against other teams. Sigh…glad to see I wasn’t alone in drawing the empty till.

And our popular rookies

(8) Candice Wiggins
(6) Charde Houston
(3) Candice Parker and Nicky Anosike

We obviously had a slowing down of the parkering this week as some folks appear to now be measuring their use of her after the boatload of parkering that has happened. And for double your money it definitely made a difference re: when you used them this week. Parker was much better later in the week than she was on the first available day this week. And let me be the first to attest…Charde Houston for DAMN sure was better later in the week than she was at the outset. Nicky Anosike made someone very happy the first day of the week.

Awards Time…

Congratulations mdme on your week 4 cup

Like last week, judges have awarded this week’s Valet award to two people, mdme parkered into a week 4 win and Sean Cunningham into 3rd place.

And I must be on an untouchable career pace for green jackets that would make Nicklaus and Woods well, green with envy… I have taken my 3rd consecutive jacket thanks to my consecutive eagles on the 17th and 18th holes…stellar performance me! Honestly folks, I’m trying not to monopolize this, I simply can’t help that I have this much natural skill to display to the world….I’m reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally trying to tho, but right now I just can’t help it.. ;)

Players....call Monarchs Talk on Tuesday. Talk about your season thus far or how you did in Week 4. Pick One Challenge segment will happen in the 8pm (PDT) hour. From the broadcast yesterday, Koz and Krista appear to be bowing down to Rdub21 right now...nice intimidation trip to the broadcast table on Friday night Rdub! It clearly worked.... ;)

Ok KF.commers...what is going on here....Scott Marsh and Krista Blunk are threatening to run away with week 5... let's pick it up folks!!! Get your focus back and let's go...

how's that for a rousing half time speech?

;)

Final day of week 5 will get underway soon and we're again having an interesting jostling for position going into Sunday.

A kf.commer has taken the week 5 lead away from the two KTHKers, everyone's favorite color analyst blames her illness for her not getting a player selected for Saturday. So there are a bunch of folks within striking distance (if you have somebody who can help you close about a 20pt gap - which may take some strategery on folks parts since only the only game on tap is San Antonio @ Indiana (GOOOO FEVER! ;))).

Our overall leaderboard is becoming a two kf.commer team race right now as Rdub and mdme continue to try to pull away - having a 63 pt lead over their nearest challenger. Four pts separate the two of them for the top spot.

Depending on what happens today, we may have a week in which NO green jacket is awarded...and if you get my drift, I have freaking broken my monopoly on THAT award..sheesh. [I HEART ALEXIS HORNBUCKLE IN A HUUUUUUUUUUUGE WAY]

We definitely had tremendously popular picks this week and today could make another player or two very popular as there is only one game from which everybody will be selecting a player.

Good luck everyone....and boy do I HEART ALEXIS HORNBUCKLE! :)

I may not be playing in the challenge, but I am really enjoying the game. Thanks to MBF for all of your recaps and comments in this thread.

GO KF.COMMERS!!

BOO KHTKERS!! ;)

Damn You Anosike

Nicky Anosike wins the "GO SIT IN THE CORNER" Award for me

But I guess it could be worse...

Bekkah had a lock on it until well Nicky Anosike. No matter...

The Game still rocks.

Week Five Results

We had another exciting week, well after my rousing halftime speech got all the kf.commers riled up and back on their game that is.We all made our necessary adjustments and wrestled the top away from Scott Marsh and Krista Blunk. And damnit, it was exciting for me to score in triple figures for once...and freaking nearly winning the week. Forget the Lynx...who saw THAT coming?!!?

Congratulations to 24lakers24 (ok, we’re all together in our kf.comhood despite our other affiliations in life  ) snatching the cup away behind a blistering midweek performance from Nicky Anosike and DeLisha Milton-Jones and then shut the door with Tina Thompson on Saturday.

Rdub and mdme again psychically played the same player on Sunday and kept the status quo. Lesson here? You must chase Rdub in the first 5 games of the week because the mind meld defense on Sunday is lockdown!

For reasons that may become obvious when you look at the weekly and overall standings for our fine league...our musical accompaniment is brought to us by the number 3 or third as in third place...and also is courtesy of the folks at Scholastic Rock...."Three is a Magic Number" as we had player jump into that spot, shoot, I hit triple digits, that's reason alone to be all over the number 3 this week

The league had some interesting bumps on the road, we had a couple of folks miss picks, we had four people who made what would have been great picks only to have that player miss the game that particular night and these bumps bruised the tallies of people up and down the leaderboard.

Here were our popular vets and rookies for the week

Vets….we sure do still love the Indy backcourt here…

(9) Rebekkah Brunson
(7) Katie Douglas and Tan White
(6) Betty Lennox, Seimone Augustus, DeLisha Milton-Jones, Ebony Hoffman

Rooks…we sure do still love the Minny rookies here..

(12) Nicky Anosike
(8) Charde Houston

Interestingly, we had two people play Candice Wiggins and have her go lights out in I believe our top rookie performance for the week. Alexis Hornbuckle had I believe the second best rookie performance of the week to only my benefit (thank you Alexis, I sooo still heart you). Anosike again this week was day to day on the feast or famine scale. Houston CLEARLY had a problem…I think we had only one parker this week and she was mere shell of herself that day doubled. Hate it when 30 something points is a less than productive night

Let's award some stuff shall we?

Again, the week 5 cup goes to 24lakers24....

The judges were reluctant to award the Valet this week, since Candace was so ordinary the day our one parkerer played her it was hard to say that her total catapulted Scott Marsh to the top of the charts...so this may be a good time to go by to the tried and true Calaveras award for biggest leap (not directly Fowles or Parker related). Scott in his second week nearly tripled the output of his first...that's gotta deserve something so I'm giving him that.

And HELL YEAH...I am getting a respite from the green jacket monopoly woohoo! I mean, ahem...we have a new winner(?) of the It Ain't Easy Being Green Green Jacket (aka The MBF's Invitational Weekly Award)...um congratulations Hoopmatron....

Week Six Public Service Announcement

As I checked in on our league goings on tonight..well shoot, let me first admit to having forgot there were even WNBA games tonight until I saw the scores on the ESPN crawl as I re-watched the US Open playoff on ESPN Classic...

Here is a public service announcement...PEOPLE, DO NOT PLAY ERICA DE SOUZA FROM THE ATLANTA DREAM SHE HAS BEEN OUT WITH A BROKEN LEG FOR A WHILE NOW....

I felt I would be remiss as unofficial commissioner of the league if I let one more person do that. ;) Everybody else who has sudden onset injuries that require them to miss games? Everybody's on their own there...I ain't even paying attention enough to be sure I can keep my own self out of trouble there :) but DeSouza's condition I was aware of (and had subsequently removed her from the day I was going to play her two weeks ago). Carry on...

And I may need to come up with another award, I've got six days to mull this over...but congratufreakinglations to everybody who went out on a freaking limb and played Michelle Snow tonight...she had her one good night of the season apparently tonight...;) This will be a consolidated award for the Snow, Braxton [insert name of grossly underachieving W player here] picks that actually work out in a big way. I've got something in mind, so you folks get your acceptance speeches ready ;)

Hey MBF..you could have gave me a heads up on Tammy Sutton Brown, the other night She gave me ZERO:cool:
Is she injured as well? That sent me down a few notches.

So remember, we are gonna expect these tidbits & updates on players from here on out o.k;)

#44
If I had a crystal ball that told me stuff like that, my score would be at least twice as much as it is right now, because I'm sure my crystal ball would tell me not only when somebody was going to sit out, but also when they would just flat out suck that night. ;)

I stepped in here because I saw that for the second week people had picked DeSouza.

Please read the fine print in your league contract...paragraph two, clause 1.b(d) regarding injury/disciplinary action notification liability....

Everybody else who has sudden onset injuries that require them to miss games? Everybody's on their own there...I ain't even paying attention enough to be sure I can keep my own self out of trouble there

;)

Sunday as always is down to the wire day for our Pick One Challenge league and as always we have an exciting race to the finish for one thing or another. Three points separate Luv13 and Kreyn49 for the week 6 cup, the chase pack of Hoopmatron, Mamabristow, Airfoil and Rdub21 is VERY close too. Four games tonight should make things interesting.

From the trends of the early returns...there certainly is one rookie player who may get NO love from the majority of our league when her team rolls through ARCO next month. She "outdid" herself yesterday.

I will have an award for the folks making the right call on Michelle Snow since she did go back to becoming her typical underachieving self yesterday. Congratulations also will be flowing for folks who made either the right call on an individual player pick or picked a player from the highest scoring game of the season on Friday. It was a great night to take Deanna Nolan or anybody capable of scoring from the Phoenix/Chicago game. That the majority of these folks who did either are contending for the cup this week? Coindence much? :)

We could also have a week in which no one technically qualifies for a Green Jacket..the course is getting tougher....what am I saying, what I actually mean by that is "yay, it's possibly not me again" ;)

Good luck to all...

Woooo, lots of stuff happened on Sunday and thus much to recap for week 6, unfortunately I am short on time to recap it, plus I have to dig up another musical accompaniment song now that things took an interesting turn on Sunday.

Recap may be up Tuesday night....definitely by Wednesday.

Good luck in week seven all
One final PSA...

...This is your score :)...this is your score if you pick Erica DeSouza right now..:( Any questions?

;)

SERIOUSLY...STOP PICKING ERICA DESOUZA

Week Six Results

Week six was fun, it had drama, it had strategy, but when all was said and done it had Tasha Humphrey keeping folks from making much movement. This rookie class I tellya….they have the power to be the not so fickle finger of fate.

As mentioned in the foreshadowing post, Luv13 had a slim lead over kreyn49 heading into Sunday, and a whole lotta people were close enough to worry about. But a funny thing happened on the way to the week six cup……have I mentioned Tasha Humphrey?

Luv13 and kreyn49 both played Tasha…all square there. Wanted an opportunity to move up in the overall standings? Not a chance, unless you joined 4 of the members of our league’s top 6 in playing?....say it with me…T a s h a H u m p h r e y ...The Rdub Sunday mind meld defense was definitely in full effect and several people were on that wavelength…I may however need to have Rdub21 and mdme sit on opposite ends of the room since for a third week in a row they play the same player the final day of the week.

Our musical theme this week is thus…courtesy of Rob Thomas…”Ever the Same” For some reason, I started notes on two separate pieces of papers and neither is complete…so let me see what I can piece together as noteworthy things from the week.

Boosting Luv13’s race to the cup was a back to back play of the top two rookie performances for the week. Kreyn49 parlayed Deanna Nolan’s monster night with Humphrey’s Sunday which was good enough to get thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to the cup.

Another noteworthy parlay for our league which I think helped people make great strides this week were those who were prescient enough to take someone…ANYONE from the Phoenix/Chicago game. Half of our top ten did, 11 of the 25 players in the league total.

On to our top picks… we had much love for the Houston Comets roster this week…

Vets
(11) Tina Thompson
(10) Michelle Snow
(6) Alana Beard

Rooks
(6) Tasha Humphrey
(5) Matee Ajavon

Can I mention the rookie who took down players in our league last week, and sabotaged a few more peeps again this week?…Charde Houston. Now, sure…I’m bitter because I played her to the tune of 4 points last week – that’s 2 fantasy points DOUBLED….she worked much harder to lower her score and cut that production in half…1 fantasy point DOUBLED for a whopping 2 spot. Which as you can surmise, is slightly better than not playing anybody. Except if you figure that by not playing anybody - you AT LEAST still have that player available for a night on which she might actually do something. Yeesh…If you’re angling for the Billy Preston Nothin From Nothin award…and haven’t played Charde yet? She’s certainly on a trend right now to hit that.

Wanted to also mention a couple of interesting plays as folks worked to avoid the green jacket. A couple of KHTKers masterfully maneuvered away from the sand traps of Torrey Pines…Sean Cunningham and Scott Marsh spotted the league a day or two respectively missing picks this week. Both finished in triple digits.

Here are the week’s award winners….

Luv13 took the cup and the league’s congratulations!

Hoopmatron takes the Valet award this week for her parkering, she was poised to snatch the cup but needed somebody better than Humphrey to have busted over the top….but the leap was good nonetheless..

Speaking of leaps…I’m giving Scott Marsh the Calaveras Award for his starting the week missing two players and using Cappie Pondexter, Tina Thompson and who?...Tasha Humphrey to blow up to 120 points…out of last place and near the middle of the pack.

Green jacket goes to our friend from Houston who got Feenstra’ed on Sunday and finished as the only player eligible for the dapper wear….um, enjoy..

Week Six (continued)

As promised…I had to hand out an award for the folks making the Lottery win leap of faith to take Michelle Snow…for one…and for two…actually have her deliver a big fantasy night…

For the math peeps out there, this image needs no explanation…so y’all hush up while I explain it to the rest of the room…

The anti-Snowflake award…..goes to...

Rdub21
Airfoil
Ineedmorecowbell

I am math adverse and purposely have forgotten that I used to have to know what fractals are, but I sucked it up and found an award for those who earned it…this is the pictoral representation of an anti-snowflake fractal….because this should be an educational recap too....you’re welcome….;)

We're about to wrap week seven...and the race for this week's cup has broadened and again the rookie class and an overtime performance are to thank for this.

After a Bastille-like storming of the the top three for week seven by KHTKers Kevin Sherrets and Scott Marsh, Supadupapimp was sitting comfortably...until yesterday. Queenbee and NBH closed ranks taking over spots #1 and #3. But these five players are all bunched up.

We have a big group in triple figures this week and with some strategy and a little luck could also leap into the cup....unless of course, the league again makes a Humphrey-like group decision. Only three games are on tap today, which could help that to happen....but will it? Will a KHTKer take the first cup for the station? Will the kf.commers deny them again? Game on...

Good luck to all....

what a crazy end to the week for our league and somehow? I think in the annals of league sabatoge, Charde Houston just got let off the hook....

the recap will take some thought

Week Seven Results

Our league had an interesting turn of events on Sunday, and our most popular player went by three initials…DNP…as seven people had someone who sat on the sidelines for the Detroit Shock, shoot, overwhelmingly Cheryl Ford tripped up players in our league by sitting out but someone also tapped Plenette Pierson, and well Saturday, Tina Thompson also was selected.

Musical theme courtesy of Michael Jackson…”You Are Not Alone” if you got Fordified or Piersoned? Plenty of others shared your pain.

Did it affect the weekly race? Not really unless you were hoping to make a move or something, but even that was unlikely since Supadupapimp slammed the door on anybody who had designs on winning the week. But it did muck up our top 10 and specifically our top 5.

But to step back a second, here’s how the week played out…Supa and Scott Marsh jumped all over the Betty Lennox train when she blew up in her overtime game against Connecticut (while I was hearting Asjha Jones). Kevin Sherrets had played a day earlier Essence Carson in HER overtime game and garnered a boatload of points, and thus was the top three heading into Saturday…

...Adding to her hearting Asjha Jones performance was NBH’s COMPLETELY hearting Matee Ajavon’s night because it sent her into third place for the week…while QueenBee was riding double barreled rookie goodness with Amber Holt’s numbers from then following that up with the double rookie points fountain that has been Nicky Anosike (unless I played her that is) which opened the door to the top spot.

The race was on to bring it to the house on Sunday....

....behind THE rookie performance for the week, Tamara Young's, Supa did just that. None of our top five going into Sunday was bitten by the DNP bug, so minor jostling behind Supa.

Our top 10 was affected…there was no Rdub mdme mind meld this week and fordification allowed the folks in hot pursuit of Rdub’s overall leaderboard perch got a lotta help and there is no a big chip taken out of the comfy lead (or as comfy a lead as one can have with this rookie class or the crazy overtime numbers veteran players have put up). But pockets throughout the standings also saw some gap closing.

Top players

Vets
(8) Ann Wauters
(7) DNP - generally
(6) Jia Perkins, Asjha Jones (who I still heart)
(4) Janel McCarville, Becky Hammon

Rooks
(7) Tamera Young
(6) Amber Holt
(3) Tasha Humphrey

Awards Time...

Week seven cup and the league’s congratulations, again..to Supadupapimp

Calaveras award got’sta go to QueenBee for an “I was shot out of a cannon” – like leap.

Green jacket to…INeedMoreCowbell…I felt my record low scores hanging in the balance this week..

I can only dream at being #1;)
Nice pick mdme...don't cha just luv some rookies!
:D thanks! last week I picked Betty Lennox on her 60 point P+R+A night only to change it at the last minute to latta. I guess this at least makes up for it since I changed from betty to tamera young at the last minute too.

As we set to conclude week eight...we have an interesting situation...only five players have reached triple figures but I suspect we could have a barnburner race to the finish line anyway....you'll see why later.

mdme will take a 6 pt lead into the final stretch tomorrow over nancgo, NBH is 10pts back, Jason Ross 19 and me a tidy lil 25...

Our intrepid Monarchs play-by-play voice came into today in second for the week but had his pick'em on wednesday and forget'um til next wednesday strategy come back and bite him as DNP raised her head again. Awwww, one less KTHKer potentially to pull down the cup..;)

Only two games on tap tomorrow, San Antonio @ Washington and Phoenix @ Los Angeles, and we allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll know what that means......

Good luck to all....(but more to me, I want a damn win soon! ;))
