When you have the #1 pick, and there is one guy who has the most potential to be a super star but another player is a better fit ... bad things happen when you draft on need. See Webber and Penny - bad call even if there is no Penny injury.
If you think they are both equal bets to be a star and one player is a better fit ... then fine. I won't dispute that. But - at the top of the draft - you don't pass a chance to grab one of the top 10-20 guys going forward based upon need. A lot of the posts focus mostly on fit. Maybe you are assuming they are equal ... I just don't know that's correct.
However, this could be like Kidd and Hill in the same draft. No wrong answer.
Petrie is really good at seeing those things. I'm not a blind Petrie follower, but on this call I'll totally defer.
