Eddie Griffin?

G-League
There are reports that the Wolves are planning to reach some sort of agreement with Griffin to release him in light of his latest drug suspension. He has a pretty well documented history of personal problems, but he is a fantastic shot blocker. Is he worth a look?

I was down with it a year or two ago when he was a FA, but not at this point.

We should be planning on how to trim salary and/or get into position for the lottery. Any deal that doesn't involve a trade to start winning, and winning big, or losing while keeping our sanity, I would be against. I don't see Griffin contributing to those criteria’s.

Wow, the duration between major Eddie Griffin infranctions and "should we get Eddie Griffin?" threads is getting smaller and smaller. I really think the guy could commit first degree murder and two days later there would be a "we should sign Eddie Griffin" thread.

I've always wanted the Kings to try to get this guy.

He may be a complete idiot off the court, but he's everything the Kings should want in a big man...Hell, as of now I'd put him in front of K9 on our depth chart, and maybe even give him the starting role over SAR, because Brad needs all the help down low that he can get.

He has range, can rebound, and block some shots...Last year he averaged 2 blocks in only 19 minuts of PT...I'd give anything to have that on the Kings front line.

Last year SAR, K9, and Miller averaged a combined 1.9 blocks in their combined 92 minutes per game...So,yea, Eddie Griffin averaged more blocks in 19 minutes than our big three in the front averaged in 92 minutes...Theres a fun little stat.

And the guy is still young, being only 24.

If he's so good, SLAB, why didn't he play a lick for Minnesota this season? Was it because Craig Smith and Mark Madsen are so good?

haven't we already had one of our "bigs" receive a drug suspension? no thanks...

on second thought. lets sign him. that way he and Mo can turn our team into a bunch of crack heads. at least then our guys would play with some energy

Because he plays behind Kevin Garnett...And he's obviously out of chances...With Minnesota.

It's a simple as that...You really don't have a chance at scoring major minutes when you're playing behind one of the greats.

And it all depends at what you want at the backup...Craig Smith is a hustler/banger who is all over the court, while Griffin...Just has issues.

It's not a matter of him not being any good, it's a matter of him...

A: Being in the wrong situation to be successful, and...
B: Needing a change of scenery, becasue you know all his off-court shenanigans have taken a toll on his play-time.

Hmmmm.

Let me think:

1. Recent drug suspension, not his first.
2. History of personal problems.
3. The uber-embarrassing incident of driving and ...

I simply do not understand why anyone would give this loser the time of day, let alone any more money to further his drug and other addictions.

You're very hard on him and you shouldn't judge a guy like this IMO

Oh? Do you even know what he has been guilty of?

Before you jump into a discussion like this, you might want to put his name in Google and see what you find.

This guy is an embarrassment to himself, to the Timberwolves, and to the game of basketball in general.

Sure hes had his problems but keep in mid he's just a kid... I would love to have Eddie Griffin on our team.

Ah yes, I'd love to have someone on the team who shot a gun at his girlfriend, got arrested outside a nightclub, violated his parole, drove under the influence while committing a lewd act, violated the substance abuse policy mutliple times and on top of that, is not a very good basketball player and got beaten out in the rotation by Mark Madsen two years running.

Sounds like just the guy we need.

The Maloofs wouldn't... and that's what matters.

Eddie Griffin is a kid who hit the NBA jackpot. It doesn't make him a sterling character. At some point, you have to look at how a player will be received in the community, not just at the one skill he seems to possess.

He's "just a kid" but he's already made himself into nothing more than a punchline to a joke. Why do you think the Wolves want to get rid of him?

This isn't a "rehab" facility for NBA players too stupid to know when they've got something good going. He's shot himself in the foot repeatedly and I do not want to see him in a Kings uniform ever. There's no way his "skills" are worth the price we'd be paying...

Sorry VF21 but there's no way you can judge a man like this
We can talk about him as a basketball player, not as a man and surely not in these terms ! What does that mean ? What is a looser ?

I don't want him in the kings roster, he's not worth the try, but i think it's unfair to say "this man is a looser" whoever you're talking about

As of right now, he can most definitely be called a loser. By that I mean the things we KNOW he's done have indicated a severe lack of maturity, judgement, responsibility, character and indicate he suffers from drug addiction.

That doesn't mean he will ALWAYS be a "loser". He's young and has plenty of time to get himself together. But I'm not willing to give this guy his third, fourth or fifth chance (or how ever many he's had) on my team at this point based on the idea that he MAY change. At this point, he's got to prove it to me first.

Good grief, I'm tired of guys that keep screwing up, but get to keep their multi-million-dollar jobs, because no one will tell them to grow up or get lost.

I can see it now -- Eddie Griffin cruising onto the practice court in his new gold lamet #41 jammies, his shorts around his knees, a gun in either hand (one of them the kind that needs uses bullets), a douby (hopefully not ours) sticking jauntily out of one side of his mouth, and a huge **** eating grin on his face as he slurs to Muss "wheres ya wanme coachie!" :D

Oh, goodness...

Thank you for that. Brightened my whole day.

But I AM talking about the basketball player, since this thread is about him possibly coming to the Sacramento Kings.

I think something is being lost in translation here, because you say you don't want him on the Kings roster and that he's 'not worth the try," and that pretty much is a working definition of "loser."

PASS PASS PASS on this cretan.

This clown costed us 3 count em 3 first round picks (all in the same draft mind you and one of which was Richard Jefferson) and all he did was sit on his *** and become a multi-million dollar paperweight.

As for his actual abilities, I've seen this nut enough to tell you the following. His only, and I repeat only skill is blocking shots from the weak side if he manages to gather the strength to move and jump the requisite amount. Other than that, you can count on several awkward 3 point shots that just might (on a good day) hit the rim and one might even go in. Oh, all of this is on the condition that he manages to even get down the court.

The guy seriously acted like he was stoned 24/7. His reaction time was almost a step slower than everyone on the court. I've never seen a guy so big get his 3 point shots get blocked. A slow release coupled with a lazy doofus. All a defender had to do was move a bit and I guarantee Eddie's lost and confused.

And analysts projected this guy to be the next Tim Duncan. And to think we could've had Richard Jefferson.

Is he related to Roy Tarpley? Hey, maybe Tarpley's available! And let's give Shawn Kemp a call... We can have 12-step meetings on the plane before & after the games. :)

I may have overreacted, i though you were judging him as a man.

When i say he's not worth the try i'm talking about the basketball player too, just like i'd say Jason Hart is not worth the try as a starting point guard.

So you're saying we should sign him? If this is how its going to play out, I think we have to!
