Here it is...

Tim Hardaway

2007-02-14-hardaway.jpg

What I needed was a gamechanger on offense that can shoot the long ball, drive, and distribute. Hardaway can do that and much more.

You might remember him for his homophobic comments, but Tim Hardaway was one of the best point guards during his era. Hardaway was small at 6 feet, but that didn't matter to him or to the opposing team getting torched. He was known for his devastating crossover dribble, dubbed the UTEP 2 step.

As part of the Warriors' attack, Hardaway was responsible for leading Run TMC's fast break, displaying his excellent passing and one-on-one skills to complement Richmond's slashing and Mullin's shooting. In his best seasons, Hardaway averaged 18 to 24 points and 8 to 10 assists per game. Hardaway has competed in five NBA All-Star Games. Together with center Alonzo Mourning he led the Heat to some of the franchise's best seasons. He was an MVP candidate following the 1996-97 season, making it to the All-NBA First Team after leading the Heat to the best record in franchise history while averaging 20.3 points, 8.6 assists, and being fourth in the league with 203 three-point baskets.

Hardaway recorded 5,000 points and 2,500 assists faster than any player in NBA history except Oscar Robertson. Hardaway accomplished it in 262 games; Robertson took only 247

Hardaway holds the record for most assists in Miami Heat franchise history: 1,947

Hardaway shares the record for second most steals in an NBA Playoffs game, with 8 in Game 2 of the 1991 Western Conference Semifinals against the Los Angeles Lakers and in Game 4 of the 1992 Western Conference First Round against the Seattle SuperSonics

In 1991-92, Hardaway became the 7th player in NBA history to average 20 points (23.4 ppg) and 10 assists (10.0 apg) in a season, a feat he accomplished again in 1992-93 (21.5 ppg, 10.6 apg)

1989 WAC Player of the Year

Selected to 2 National Teams

* 5x NBA All-Star (1991-1993, 1997-1999)
* 1x All-NBA First Team Selection (1997)
* 3x All-NBA Second Team Selection (1992, 1998-1999)
* 1x All-NBA Third Team Selection (1993)
* 1990 NBA All-Rookie First Team

nice pick

we can trade?

I actually started thinking about the possibility earlier...

If this is a one-shot only TDOS league then I say probably not, barring huge outcry for single season trades.
In a one year scenario it is in YOUR hands,

If this somehow turns into a TDOS Dream Team Dynasty League for a few years (Which I wholeheartedly vouch for given various 'in my brain' scenarios) then why not treat it like a true league with trading draft picks and players and future considerations and cuts and waiver wire grabs and expansion teams/drafts and the whole GM experience.

Weigh in league (and outsiders.)

-Commish

I have plenty of cap space on my team. Please trade your players for my expiring contracts:).

Let's just stick with the draft for now. We don't need to keep making this more complicated than it already is...

Larry89...Larry89...Larry89...
tsk, tsk, tsk....

He was one of my next two picks.
You really don't want to upset the commissioner.

;)
:p

Actually I wouldn't mind if their was a little time set aside, after we are done picking, for trades...then finalizing the rosters. I think it would be a good idea as long as we don't complicate it and we set up a trade deadline date.

This two pick thing is....odd. Mitch was my next pick, but I guess I could have got on faster. Anyway, I guess I'll just lose some strength and get even more shooting. My team is in desperate need of shooting at this point anyway.

reggie2.jpg

Reggie Miller - SG

.....swish.

The best shooter of all time. Soon to be surpassed though, by a guy who just went off crazy tonight....man maybe I should take him. I'll go for Reggie just for old-school style, and maybe the slightly, slightly, quicker release.

Career averages of 18.2 points per game, .471 from the field, .395 from 3-point range and .888 from the free throw line. Five time all-star, the deadliest of the deadly in the clutch, and the all-time leader in 3-pt FG made (for now, anyway).

Also a member of the 50-40-90 club along with Bird, Mark Price, Steve Nash, and Dirk (K-Mart some day? haha).

BTW on my roster Walt is a PG so you can edit that SLAB

oh yeah everyone, better stop Brick from picking his next we all know who its going to be

ray-allen.jpg

Ray Allen

Ok, first off, I wanted Reggie. BAD. Had him all lined up. But, there he goes getting taken. Then I remembered tonights game, and I'll settle for Reggie v2.0.

Stats (copied from wiki)

  • NBA Champion: 2008

  • Is the active leader in three-point field goals made with 2,299. He trails only Reggie Miller, who has 2560, for the all time record. (as of April 13, 2009)
So Ray-Ray it is. Perfect shooter for Shaq, Barkley, and Clyde kick to.

Heh -- one of my earlier templates had me pairing Reggie and Larry in the ultimate shooting/clutch SG/SF pairing. But since I am actually aiming to build an actual viable team here, having everybody be a 20ppg scorer doesn't work and I'm going a different direction.

And that other direction is:

33-57194-F.jpg

Dennis Rodman

Worm me baby!

7x First Team All Defense
2x Defensive Player of the Year
7x Rebounding champ (a record)
5x NBA Champion
1x Nuttier than a fruitcake (and quite possibly fruitier than a nutcake)

There is only one ball. Not everybody can shoot. So I'm importing the ultimate roleplayer and one of the game's all time destructive forces. A guy who could be the dominant player on the floor wihtout scoring a point. Fortunately I have the megastar egos to maybe somewhat control him.

Good thing I didn't join this draft. Brick would have taken both Payton and Rodman from me, and I'd have to kill him.

As impartial observer, however, I tip my hat to you, sir.

crap there goes my PF. You are ruining my team by picking my players

Lets remember our PMs people...Anyway, thanx for taking both Reggie Miller and Ray Allen right from under my nose. Man this is brutal sometimes. maybe its for the best as I'm getting a better ball handler/athlete than Reggie, and a much better defender and passer than Ray Ray. This man is a great teammate, and has won internationally in Euroleagues, in the Olympics, and in the NBA, plus he's left handed like me:). He is willing to start or come off the bench, and greatly steps up his game in the clutch and in the playoffs. He has won 3 NBA titles with the Spurs, making up their big 3, an Olympic Gold Medal in Athens for Argentina as the best player in the world (even owning LeBron and his lack of shooting USA Bronze Medal team), and several Euroleague titles too. With my 4th choice, I select the Kobe Stopper:

Manu Ginobili - G/F 6'6" 205 LBS.

Interesting Stat (Via Bill Simmons):
Q: The NBA should start keeping track of players' winning percentages. Wouldn't this give us at least a decent idea for who are the biggest "winners" in not just basketball but in all sports?
-- Stephen, Baltimore

SG: Very cool idea. I brought out the heavy hitters for this one (Steve Hirdt and the Elias Sports Bureau) and asked them to check the following 14 guys. Here's what they found.

ALL-TIME PLAYER WINNING PERCENTAGES
PLAYER REG. SEASON PLAYOFFS
Larry Bird .736 .604
Manu Ginobili .724 .654
Sam Jones .718 .649
Bill Russell .717 .648
Tony Parker .716 .615
Tim Duncan .712 .631
Scottie Pippen .688 .654
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar .688 .650
Magic Johnson .674 .740
Shaquille O'Neal .672 .601
Robert Horry .671 .635
Michael Jordan .659 .665
Bob Cousy .655 .578
Jerry West .638 .569

So by the percentages Manu was the 2nd biggest regular season winner by percentage, ahead of greats like MJ, Russell, Magic, Kareem, and Pippin! He's also ranked 3rd in playoff winning percentage, behind only MJ and Magic!

I am PREYING my next player falls with 3 more people in front of me.

And I will update after work today.
:)

My pick:

mcadoo_bob_getty_260.jpg

Bob McAdoo

Bob was a beast. Was drafted in 72/73 and won rookie of the year. In his 2nd year, he averaged 31ppg, 15rpg, 3.3bpg, 2apg, 1spg. He is the last player to average 30/15 in a season.

He earned the first of three consecutive NBA scoring titles in only his second season. McAdoo also led the NBA in field goal percentage in 1973-74, shooting 54.7 percent. In 1974-75 he was awarded the NBA MVP award, averaging 34.5 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.12 blocks per game, while shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 80.5 percent from the free throw line.

McAdoo, although being a big man, had a very capable outside game. He was a good shooter and a great passer, averaging 4 assists in one season. From wikipedia: he can be regarded as a precursor of players such as Chris Webber, Rasheed Wallace or Dirk Nowitzki.

Unfortunately, injuries cut short what was sure to be a prolific career.

Honours:

ROY
5-Time All-Star
1974-75 MVP
2-Time NBA champion
Lead the League in scoring in 3 consecutive years
Lead the NBA in FG %
Added to the HOF in 2000

Crap I lost a few players overnight. Rodman was gonna be my PF and was hoping Reggie or Ray would slip to my 6th man. The player I almost picked last time is still on the board, but he doesn't really fit on my team anymore so I'm gonna have to go in another direction. So, I'm taking Paul Pierce

Paul-Pierce-34_112609.jpg
