Rick Barry

He's been in the back of my mind for 2 rounds now. A great leader on and off the court. He will add great chemistry to a team that already has it. He will bring pinpoint accuracy in passing and shooting. He also plays great team defense.

He is considered by many veteran basketball observers to be one of the greatest pure small forwards of all time as a result of his very precise outside shot, uncanny court vision, knowledge and execution of team defense principles, tenacious and ofttimes demanding will to win, and unorthodox but accurate underhanded "granny shot" free throw shooting. Barry is one of few elite players who have altered their games without losing effectiveness; he broke into the professional ranks as a rebounder and all-purpose points machine before he morphed into a primary ball distributor and lethal perimeter threat.

University of Miami (1961-65)
Associated Press First-Team All-America (1965)
The Sporting News All-America Second Team (1965)

NBA San Francisco Warriors (1965-67)
NBA Rookie of the Year (1966)
NBA leading scorer in 1967 (35.6 ppg)
ABA leading scorer in 1969 (34.0 ppg)
NBA highest free-throw percentage 1973, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1980
ABA highest free-throw percentage 1969, 1971, 1972
NBA All-Star Game MVP (1967)
All-NBA Second Team (1973)
NBA Finals MVP (1975)
NBA most consecutive made free throws record (60 - held from 1976 until 1980)
All-NBA First Team (1966, 1967, 1974, 1975, 1976)
Eight time NBA All-Star (1966, 1967, 1973-78)

Points 25,729

Barry helped take the Warriors to the 1967 NBA Finals, which they lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in six games. Including a 55-point outburst in Game 3, Barry averaged 40.8 points per game in the series, an NBA Finals record that stood for three decades.

Rick Barry's a good pick. If my pick that I was gonna take last round is still on the board when it comes back to me, I'm gonna have to take him as a 6th man or something

whatever.

My Pick:
Alex English - SG

english_300.jpg

With the Big O and Vlade to pass Big Game James and Alex English the rock, I have a VERY high octane offense.

NBA said:
Alex English was the NBA's most prolific scorer during the 1980s and retired as the seventh-leading scorer with 25, 613 points. After being underutilized by the Milwaukee Bucks and the Indiana Pacers during his first four years in the league, English became the most explosive member of a high-powered Denver Nuggets team that consistently ranked among the league's top-scoring clubs.

English dominated during the 1980s. During his 10 full seasons in Denver he played in eight straight All-Star Games, won a scoring title, averaged more than 23 points nine years in a row and led the Nuggets to nine consecutive postseason appearances (although never to the Finals). The sleek, 6-7 forward became the first player ever to string together eight straight 2,000-point seasons. And he led the Nuggets in scoring seven times en route to becoming the franchise's all-time top scorer.

21.5 ppg
5.5 rpg
3.6 apg
83% free throws

I guess I will go again?

My Pick:
Elvin Hayes - PF
0507_large.jpg

Ah. He was C-Webb way before C-Webb was C-Webb. He completes my starting lineup, offering another scoring option and a defensive presence as well.

Hayes joined the NBA with the San Diego Rockets in 1968 and in his rookie year, he scored a career-high 54 points against the Detroit Pistons on November 11 of that year. As a rookie, Hayes led the NBA in scoring with 28.4 points per game, averaged 17.1 rebounds per game, and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team. Hayes' scoring average is the fifth best all-time for a rookie, and he remains the last rookie to lead the NBA in scoring average.

In Hayes' second season, he led the NBA in rebounding, becoming the first player other than Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain to lead the category since 1957 (Chamberlain was injured during much of the season). In Hayes' third season, 1970–71, he scored a career best 28.7 points per game. In 1971, the Rockets moved to Houston, enabling Hayes to play in the city of his college triumphs. In 1972, Hayes was traded to the Baltimore Bullets, where he teamed with Hall-Of-Famer Wes Unseld to form a fierce and dominating frontcourt combination. The 18.1 rebounds per game Hayes averaged in 1974 is the third highest rebounding average of any NBA player since Wilt Chamberlain retired in 1973.

21 ppg
12.5 rpg
1.8 apg
2 bpg

FINALLY.

I was going to take him and jam him out of position at G if the travesty continued any longer.

Was wondering when he was going to go with people complaining about not having enough scoring with their 4 20pt scorers on the team.

With their 5th Round selection, kingsnation selects...

Tony_Parker_Trophy_8x10ins_mid.jpg

Tony Parker

Will move on to my 6th Man before I get my Center and with Nash, MJ and Parker in my backcourt - We have a nice 3 headed monster.

Parker is one of the quickest PGs in basketball and will fit in well with my team. He can score, but also play defense.

Parker plays the point guard position and has established himself as a potent scorer. Voted by his peers in a 2007 poll as one of the quickest players in the NBA,[39] he often slashes to the basket for a layup or teardrop shot. Despite his relatively small size for a basketball player (6'2"), he led the league in "points in the paint" for a large portion of the 2005–06 season.
Parker's field goal percentage is also high for a point guard, and his speed also makes him a fast break player.

2000 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship MVP
2001–02 NBA All-Rookie First Team
3x NBA All-Star 2006, 2007, 2009
2007 NBA Finals MVP
3x NBA Champion 2003, 2005, 2007
2007 Euroscar European Player of the Year

So, rounding out the starting 5 and I needed another big man who could score in the post, hit a jump shot, and protect the paint. It also helps that he's a fierce competitor, and NBA champion, a humanitarian, and has a great smile:). With my 5th choice I select

Alonzo Mourning - F/C 6'10" 260 lbs.
alonzomourning_295_050602.jpg

21+ ppg, 11+rpg, 3.5+ bpg

Career Highlights:
* NBA Champion: 2006
* All-NBA First Team: 1999
* All-NBA Second Team: 2000
* 2-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year: 1999, 2000
* 2-time NBA All-Defensive First Team: 1999, 2000
* 7-time NBA All-Star: 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002
* Heat Franchise 2nd Leading Scorer with 9,459 points
* Led NBA in blocked shots: 3.91 bpg in 1999
* NBA All-Rookie 1st Team in 1993
* Won bronze at the 1990 FIBA World Championship with the US national team[12]
* Won gold at the 1994 FIBA World Championship[13] and the 2000 Olympic Games with the US national team
* 1st Heat Player to have his jersey retired by the franchise 2009
[yt=Block Party]5GEjMEa_y00[/yt]
This is my glue guy. He can play PF or center, protecting the basket and running the lane like Dwight Howard, plus he is capable of playing just as well from a starter or reserve role (depending on match-ups). He is one of the all time leaders in blocked shots (3.9 bpg average at one point), is a tenacious rebounder and dunker, and was a 21+ ppg post scorer who could get to the line whenever he wanted to and could make free throws at a high percentage (10.2 attempts/game at 70% shooting). He is another great teammate, adding to my championship team chemistry, and his charity work speaks for itself.

Charity Work:
In 1997, Mourning established Alonzo Mourning Charities Inc. to aid in the development of children and families living in at-risk situations and provides support and services that enhance the lives of youth of promise.

After being diagnosed with focal glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), Mourning launched Zo’s Fund for Life, a campaign which seeks to raise funds for research, education, and testing to fight focal glomerulosclerosis. Funds are allocated toward research for a cure, education for doctors and the general public, testing for early detection and a fund for those not able to afford medication.

In 2007, Alonzo Mourning along with Andre Agassi, Muhammad Ali, Lance Armstrong, Warrick Dunn, Mia Hamm, Jeff Gordon, Tony Hawk, Andrea Jaeger, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Mario Lemieux, and Cal Ripken Jr. founded Athletes for Hope, a charitable organization, which helps professional athletes get involved in charitable causes and inspires millions of non-athletes to volunteer and support the community.[14]

In 2003 he has also founded the overtown Youth Center for underprivileged kids, located in Miami, Florida. The program aims to inspire, empower, and enrich these children while teaching them to become positive contributing citizens.

Finally he goes. This was my original 3rd round pick before I went with Gervin. I went with Gervin but couldn't help but think of how many alley-oops Wilkins and Kidd would do in a game :).

Pick coming shortly

So, after losing Rodman I'm gonna go with a similar player who might be a big reach at this point, but I need a roleplayer who does the dirty work. Good defender, good jumpshooter, good rebounder, good passer. But most importantly, tough as they come and annoying to play against. I'm going with

Oakdish.jpg

Charles Oakley

Short list of honors, but still gonna be a valuable piece to my team.

NBA All-defensive 1st team (1994)
NBA All-defensive 2nd team (1998)
1 time All-star (1994)
1986 All-rookie team

Career averages of 9.7ppg, 9.5rpg and 2.5apg, but these are affected by his last few years in the league where he bounced around a lot and wasn't nearly as effective.

Had 35 rebounds against the Cavaliers in 1988
