Countdown to the trade deadline (Feb 19) Will the Kings make a trade?

Will the King make a trade by the deadline?

I believe Petrie is playing a waiting game right now. With all the big names in trade buzz (Amare, Bosh, Marion, Ellis, Kaman, Hinrich etc.), GMs are more likely not to make any moves with us unless it's totally clear they will never get those big names by the trade deadline. We don't have any star to overshine those names on the trading market but surely there will be playoff teams that will benefit with the addition of any of our guys on the trading block.

I expect a trade 3 days before the deadline. Some of those big names will never be traded and GMs will get that sign just before the deadline. As the hole for opportunity gets smaller, I expect a lot of GMs to be in a rush to decide a solid addition to their team, which is the time, I believe, that Petrie will make his move. When people are in a rush, even spoiled food tastes better. :D:D:D

Seven days remain... still no big trades around the league. Last year, at this time, there were a number of trades that took place before the all-star break. Perhaps they are waiting so the players can play in the all-star game for their conference, then be traded to the other conference... clock is ticking... no new juicy rumors are popping up which tells me Geoff is hard at work. Seven days... one week... to change the look and fate of the Kings...

I don't think there are many All-stars on the block. Outside of Amare I don't imagine any other guys will be moving, but I suppose it's possible that everything hinges on Amare, and if Amare isn't going anywhere until after the game...

True. Just speculation... I just hope so good news comes the Kings way soon.

Hopefully, now is the calm before the storm. And we'll see a bevy of trade activity that includes the Kings and several of our 'assets'.

Unfortunately I get the eerie feeling nothing may go down as a result of:

(1) Our horrible record has further devalued the players on our roster, and trades Geoff Petrie declined over the summer may be off the board, let alone anything more appealing now, as teams look to seize on our sense of desperation and hopeless futility.
(2) We cannot take more salary than we give up.
(3) Outside of kevin martin or JT, no one really wants any of our players all that badly.

A bad trade is worse than no trade, then again how bad of a trade can you make when you 11-43???

This doesn't make any sense to me. These guys are General Managers of multi-million dollar franchises. There not dip*****. Our guys can still play ball. GMs know this. It's not like once you play for a bad team you forget how to play ball. This is usually how it works. Teams that are contenders trade to the teams that are out of the race.

Six days left... Hopefully, Friday the 13th will be a lucky day for the Kings... The first major trade occured: Marion for O'Neal... time and options are running out for trades, hopefully a desperate GM will seal the deal with our desperate GM soon!

Yup, and I guess that axes 1 Kings trade 'rumor': Miller/Thomas for Marion/Banks.

Waiting...

Amick:

But yesterday came with a change in tone, and there was some reason to believe something was coming around the bend. And now in the wake of the Marion news, I'm being told from the Miami side that the Kings were making a push for the Matrix and his expiring deal worth $17.1 million up until the end. Not sure where that leaves things now, but no one could blame the Heat for picking a recently productive O'Neal over an ailing Brad Miller (and Kenny Thomas). It's no small thing that Miller has been out. Just horrible timing.

Told you. Brad's injury is really not good for trades.

Darn that B-52... I think he got injured on PURPOSE just to screw with the trade deadline... <jk> However, at this point, I will be surprised if Miller is traded before his deal is complete. The only value he has after the trade deadline is as an ender and a really solid backup Center... and the Kings would probably just rather keep a big ender unless it is for a bus-load of prospects or part of a package deal... just depressing... we can hope the Kings will still try to move some of their other pieces like Beno, Salmons, Moore, etc by the deadline, but I am not holding my breath.

Probably no need to do the day by day countdown yet -- I would imagine there won't be much done over the weekend (well, deals might be agreed with all the GMs talking in person, but nothing announced). Monday will be a big day to start looking. Now that Jermaine/Marion are off the books, we just need the Stoudemire thing to get resolved and then maybe people will start settling for our garbage once their first options are gone.

Morning of day four. I don't really expect any action until Monday... with Amare the big ticket and he will not be traded until after the all-star game in Phoenix. YaWN... back to sleep...

If Geoff can find someone to take a big contract and give us back expirings and/or picks, I'll be fine. We won't take on any big names with big contracts. With all the talk of the Maloofs losing money, I just don't see it happening.

C'mon Petrie, give someone away. ;)

Part of the problem is that a good many teams are as unwilling to take on big contracts as the Kings are. Supposedly half or more of the NBA teams are likely going to lose money this year. Add to that the fact that it's now expected that the salary cap will go down next year and a lot of teams are looking to unload salary, not take on more.

Still I'm hopeful to see a trade or trades go down for the Kings by the deadline. I am a bit nervous, though, about who we could lose as a sweetener to get rid of the bad. I know no one's "untouchable," but I'd hate to see some players go, like JT, for example. :(

If Amare doesn't get moved by the deadline, I'm gonna spam Kerr's e-mail for bluffing the league and causing misfortune to our trade negotiations. Seriously, as long as Amare's name is up there, Brad will never be moved. His salary is close to that of Amare but his performance is way below. So GMs would never take a look at Brad unless their pretty sure Amare's out of reach.

Salmons and Beno maybe in negotiations right now since there are only few wing players mentioned on the trading block. But still, the best offer Petrie might pull is by packaging some of our bigs(Brad/Kenny/Moore). But its becoming tighter and tighter if were gonna pull that trade.:mad::mad:

The 16th is over... The trade deadline is 3PM Eastern on the 19th... or high noon to us in the wild west... so really only two days remain... getting a trade done on the 19th would be most difficult. What is amazing is that other than the JO'N for Marion swap, NOTHING else has happened; not even the little moves you would normally see... I have a feeling that Tuesday is going to be the day for the Kings to make their move... just a feeling.. I am no insider and have no secret info, but Tuesday seems like the day.

I hope you're right. I'm tired of waiting. I'd rather just stand pat though if Geoff is going to pull off a desperation move or a move that just doesn't make any sense at all. (See Webb to Philly..)

You were right. We got Cassell. Now we can all start talking about who to draft again.

2 days... 48 hours remain and what has happened? Cash + Cassell to the Kings for a 2nd in some sort of favor to the Celtics move (I think the old saying "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" may apply here) and Tyson Chandler goes to OKC for some expiring contracts (Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox). More must be coming... You don't have potential trades for Miller, Moore, Udrih, and Salmons and not get any done. Tick tock... 48 hours left on the clock.

It still matters what the deals are. If they're crap, hopefully they don't get done. Otherwise you're just pumping out the septic tank to let in more.......well you know what. ;)

No doubt, but if the Kings can move Moore and or Miller for an ender or two, that is all you would need to make a reasonably good trade... just, please, no Jerome James.

Well this could be a major boost if it were true and we could get it:

Not sure we are financially up for the absorb a bad contract bit at this point, and you would want to dodge Songaila's deal ending in '11, but Mikki has that cheap buyout at the end of this year, and Etan Thomas is still an ender in '10. Swap the two guys, maybe swap them a Douby or Sheldon ender for one of their kids still getting paid next year and oyu might be abel to get them under the luxury tax next year. Do not know if it would be enough to get them to hand us that pick, but given their positon and all the questions about this draft I sure would like to call them and find out.
