Will the King make a trade by the deadline?

More spaced out can save them from being over the luxury tax. Caps are going to start dropping next year. With the salary cap dropping starting next year they could have less and less room to do anything even if they managed to stay under the dropping luxury cap. This franchise is hemorrhaging money. Estimated loss of at least $25 million this year, even though they cut operating costs. Maybe they should just go bankrupt like our last ownership group was close to before selling?

I believe they love the team and want to win, but their is even a financial can't cross line for rich people when it comes to their hobbies, especially when they are getting much less rich daily.

Thanks for putting it so succinctly. You are correct. And, if Noc is traded later, that is $$$ we didn't have to pay. Current value vs. future value of $$$ and all that.

They are not saving anything. They are simply paying it over a more spaced out period. Same amount of money going when it's all said and done.

Really, there are no excuses for this. It's absolutely farcical. If there were no better deals out there, we should have hung onto them.

They are saving money next year which is what matters most. Saving 10 million in salary is a lot. Think of it this way they are cutting back salary. What effects their bottom line now is what is important.

So the trade deadline has passed... deals can still be announced over the next hour or so, but what have the Kings done?

The roster was:
PG: Beno/Bjax/Brown/Douby
SG: KMart/Cisco
SF: Salmons/Greene
PF: Thompson/Moore/Sheldon/K9
C: Miller/Hawes

Now the roster looks like this:

PG: Beno/Bjax
SG: KMart/McCants/Cisco
SF: Nocioni/Greene
PF: Thompson/Moore/K9/Simmons/Gooden/Diogu
C: Hawes/O'Bryant/Booth

with one guy yet to be waived... I am guessing Booth or Simmons.

Also, Douby and Cassell were waived.

7 new names out of 15 roster spots... may not be a perfect rebuild, but it is definitely a change!

I take it Cisco isn't your favorite player.. You put him behind a rookie, and pretty much a worthless McCants.

Beno/Bjax/McCants
Martin/CISCO/McCants
Nocioni/CISCO/Greene
Thompson/whocares
Hawes/whocares

I didn't really do a whom plays in front of whom list, just a list.

PG: Beno/Bjax
SG: KMart/McCants/Cisco
SF: Nocioni/Greene
PF: Thompson/Moore/K9/Simmons/Gooden/Diogu
C: Hawes/Booth

Well this seems to be the final roster bar any other final changes made

Hmm ... so that's what "blowing it up" looks like,

- Brad Miller/Salmons for Drew Gooden, Andres Nocioni, Mike Ruffin, and Cedric Simmons

- Ruffin then traded to POR for Ike Diogu

- Sheldon Williams and Bobby Brown for Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth

- Kings trade for Will Solomon (Moore to BOS, O'Bryant to TOR)

Outlook:

PG: Beno, Bjax
SG: Martin, McCants, Simmons, Solomon
SF: Cisco, Nocioni, Donte Green
PF: JT, Gooden, Diogu
C: Hawes, Booth (Waived I hope).

Am I right?

Well, this looks like the final roster

PG: Beno/Bjax
SG: KMart/McCants/Cisco
SF: Nocioni/Greene
PF: Thompson//K9/Simmons/Gooden/Diogu
C: Hawes/Booth

Before:

Beno/Bjax/Brown
Martin/Garcia/Douby
Salmons/Garcia/Greene
Thompson/Shelden/K9
Miller/Hawes/Moore

After:

Beno/Bjax/Soloman
Martin/McCants
Nocioni/Garcia/Greene
Thompson/Diogu/Simmons/K9
Hawes/Gooden/Booth

Quite the turnover

What I think is the most interesting part of these trades is next year's roster:

PG: Beno
SG: KMart
SF: Nocioni/Garcia/Greene
PF: JT/K9
C: Hawes

This leaves 7 open roster spots... they will be filled by:

1. The Kings first round draft pick
2. The Rocket's first round draft pick (hopefully)
3-7: Who knows... summer league should be really, really interesting this season... if you are a young player without a team, where are you going to get a better shot than Sac?

Don't forget our second round pick. Normally they have been pretty bad, but this year we should have the first or second pick of the second round. There's actually a good chance that player can make our roster.
