Countdown to the trade deadline (Feb 19) Will the Kings make a trade?

Will the King make a trade by the deadline?

Well, I think Brad Miller is going to have to come back before anything happens. Teams are going to want to see that he's healthy before they trade for him.
Is he really injured, though? I thought it was just a "put Brad on ice while we trade him" move, not an actual injury.

I thought that at first, but there were reports that he had an MRI on his hip. Not sure when he's expected back.

Since it's only a muscle strain, I'm sure they could trade him as long as he passes a physical.

Except that most of the teams who are conceivably trading for him are in the playoff hunt and aren't going to want to waste games by giving up healthy players in a trade only to have Miller on the bench.

It still seems like an "All-star break injury" or a "I am getting traded" injury, not a real injury.

"Miller out – An MRI on Brad Miller revealed a left hip-flexor strain. The Kings center, who already missed three games, will miss the next three as well and will be re-evaluated next week."

So he could be back by Wednesday/Thursday... first game back, however on the 18th? he may have already played his last Kings game. Kind of sad.

At this point, I'm guessing Brad will be out until after the All-Star break. That would make his first game back the day before the trade deadline.

I may go quietly nuts waiting for the deadline. :p

Ya, really sad.

I am really wondering if Petrie is going to make any trades. I sure hope so...

At this point I also question whether or not Petrie is making trades, more then a few playoff teams have hurt players so you'd think you strike while the iron is hot on them. In our eyes we have quite a few moves that should be made, but I sure as heck hope he doesn't chose to stay status quo

You will often see there is a "feeling out" process that takes place for a while, then once the first major trade takes place, others follow like dominoes. Hopefully we have a couple of those here as the deadline gets closer. but I think some are waiting to see what happens with Amare, etc., before seeing what happens with, say, a Beno, for example.

The closer to the deadline we get, the more I think nothing will happen for the Kings. Miller's injury complicated things a bit because no team will trade for him if he is injured!

Especially with guys liek Amare and Bosh potentially out there -- everyone is going to want to wait to see what happens with those guys before settlign for our crap. Rushing into a Brad Miller move when you are still trying to pursue Amare would be ridiculous.

yeah it looks like everyone is staying pat until they see what happens with Amare Stoudemire... guess we'll just have to wait until Feb 19th. See you guys then

Eight days until the deadline. Still no major trades made... just the Maloofs whining about losing money on the Kings to the tune of 25 Million... I am sure they are shocked that in a year with Kenny Natt as coach people would not be packing the arena to come see their team. I will bet next year will be better... they will have a better coach, hopefully shed some contracts, sign a high draft pick, and not have to pay Mussleman, Theus, and Kenny Natt over the course of one season. Eight days! No Major Trades Yet! Who is dragging their feet? Is Brad Miller the lynch-pin that is slowing all of the deals down? If Brad Miller is not healthy in time to be traded, will the Kings make any moves?

I have a bad bad feeling no moves will be made. I would love to see us send salmons and a second round pick or even a late first if we snag another one (through miller or beno) to Portland for Bayless and Raef's expiring contract. I really dont want to see us trade our players and get just expirings and no young players. We all know we are going to have to over pay a Hedo or Sessions type player to come here. 8 days baby.... 8 days..... cmooooooon' Petrie!!!!

My fear is that they are hoping to make a number of draft day deals to get certain players from the draft (which is fine, just annoying when your team is in last place and the fans need something to talk about/hope for/think about other than the fact that the Kings cannot beat any team in the league)

I stand by what I have said before, which Brick echoed a few post back. Our players are all 2nd/3rd tier trade bait. Right now teams are trying to trade their spare parts for Amare, Bosh, Butler, or any other potentially available higher caliber players. As we get down to the final day or two before the deadline when reality sinks in that those players are not coming at a reasonable price, then teams looking to make a move will be more inclined to trade fairer value for players like Miller and Salmons.

And on top of that, my fear is that Petrie never does draft day trades. I feel like we can get young players or even picks at the deadline that would serve us better than trying to get players in this years draft. This years draft is not that deep plus you need a mix of veteran/young talent to be successful. Kevin Martin in not our veteran leader. I really dont want to see the Kings turn into a D league team full of guys who have only been in the league less than 3 years.

Interesting read from hoopshype:

Abe in Roseville, CA:
We're hearing about the offers for Amar'e, who's offering what to the Kings? Any developments? How likely is it the following players get moved: Brad Miller, John Salmons, Beno Udrih.

Steve Kyler:
The Kings literally have a dozen offers sitting on the table... they are expected to use the All-Star break to reach some sort of consensus on which deals they like... they have heard from almost every team in the league... If they have their way they will move John Salmons, Brad Miller, Mikki Moore and Beno... they have real offers on all four guys.

I wish this is true! If we could include Kenny Thomas into this bunch it would be brilliant. Getting something for Salmons and Miller would be great. Getting out of Beno's deal would be even better.

Also from that article:

Marc in Oberhausen, Germany:
Most of the current trade rumours surround big names like Stoudemire, Bosh, O'Neal, Marion, Carter. Do you have other possible trades in mind that are not on the public radar yet?

Steve Kyler:
Here are some guys I expect moved next week... John Salmons... Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden... Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox... the ending contract of Reaf LaFrentz... I think Brad Miller will be moved, I think Anthony Parker will be moved... beyond that I think there is a lot of talk.

Wow. That Steve Kyler must really be tapped into something... He expects Salmons and Miller to be traded? Wow. Didn't see that coming from outside of Alpha Centauri...

:p

Yeah, there was a decent deal of fluff in that chat, and not a lot of evidence to suggest this guy knows much more than the rest of us.

For instance, the fact that he didn't immediately shoot down the guy who thought maybe OKC could get "more" than John Salmons for Joe Smith made me wonder.

I really have this bad feeling that we won't make any trades at all this season...it seems like a terrible nightmare waiting to happen :(

I hope we trade all of those players. Maybe we'll get some guys who fit the roster better or salary cap relief or picks or SOMETHING.
