"Classic" Ride Draft Thread - DRAFT COMPLETED!

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
I'm bumping this one up a few notches on my list now that "magic" powers seem to be included with our cars.

ZZ Top Eliminator (1933 Ford Coupe)
Perhaps too soon to go with another 30s Ford Coupe but where the last one was all about speed, this one is about style. Plus it magically transforms whoever holds the keys into a ladykiller and comes equipped with 3 fishnet clad hot-mess tramps from the 80s.

Holy crap -- that one I do not believe, as that was always supposed to be my last pick until Lowenherz suddenly blew it up by picking some random hotrod -- did not want to look like a cheap copycat with the very next pick.

Wow, such a deal. An obscure right fielder too. The girls coming along was part of the attraction for me too. And it was also the only upside down bathtub car (roughly anything before 1950) I could ever see myself considering for that very reason. That's chopped btw, and only the body is a 33 Ford. The headlights are '36, the tailights '39. And everything under the hood is modern muscle car -- runs a standard V8 350 and modern tranny. As mentioned I had the thing lined up for some time.

Also finishes off the last car on my list.

Prophetess is gone until tomorrow evening. She did send me her picks, however, so I'll be posting them shortly.

:)

She didn't send it; said she'd catch up when she got back. For that reason, I'd suggest having the next person go ahead and go.

To end Round 6, PROPHETESS selects:

1999 Mach 5 prototype - Speed Racer

She said to be sure to mention it had actual working sawblades. ;)

I think that, since I've finally made up my mind on my next pick after much time spent agonizing over the decision (new the make, couldn't decide the model), I should be allowed to pick right now.

Either that, or everyone should hurry back up and let the snake get back to me.

Pretty please?

Next up:

1957 Chrysler 300C Convertible
The letter series 300s were built from 1955-1965 and ignited the performance car craze amongst American manufacturers that lead to muscle car mania in the 60s. Each year a new model was introduced with a new letter. The third year in the series, the "C" car is considered the most collectible for numerous reasons, one of which was because it was the first year in which the convertible was an option.

It was also available with a very limited edition 390hp Hemi engine of which only 18 were built (convertible or hard top). You're darn skippy that mine has this engine.

The fins were more pronounced on the 57 model, a trend that would continue for the next several years. It was also introduced the new grille up front that looked like it was going to swallow you whole and the red, white and clue 300 badging scheme.

The hard top is pretty spiffy too.

I have been going back and forth on this one. There are surely a couple of cars that I really want that will be gone by the time my next pick comes around. I am thinking that this one may not be on anyone's radar, but I really MUST have it so here goes.....

Lotus Esprit S1 - James Bond (The Spy Who Loved Me) model - 1977(?)

I am pretty sure that I will have the only car that will double as a submarine. With rockets I might add. This was the first Bond Movie that I saw and this car left an impression on me my entire childhood.

If you cannot tell, I am not one to be stuck in a city. I plan to do some exploring.

Hooray! I'm up!! :p

My next pick:

1939 Delahaye 165M Figoni et Falaschi Cabriolet -- In addition to all the types of nerd that I have already admitted being throughout these forums, I'm also a big time cartoon nerd. And, ever since I was a kid, one of my favorite characters has been Tex Avery's lecherous wolf. Though the details would change from cartoon to cartoon, the wolf was never without three things: an insatiable libido, a snappy zoot suit, and a car. And the wolf was never shown with just any old car, but rather an almost impossible collection of curves and chrome, always with a ridiculously long front end that would slink and slither its way around curves like a snake. I wanted to be that wolf when I was younger (and, yeah, probably still now). I wanted to drive his car. What does that have to do with the Delahaye? Fast forward to my junior year of high school. One weekend, after much begging and a rare break in our busy schedules, my mother and I went to the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. As we were riding the escalator up to the third floor, I began to notice oddly flashing lights on the ceiling, but it wasn't until we reached the top of that escalator that I discovered their source -- it was lights reflecting off the chrome of five candy colored Delahayes, shiny as Christmas morning, rotating on a turntable. I knew immediately that, if cartoons were real, that's what my wolf would have driven. I've been in love with them ever since.

Two comments:

1. Kingzrool - I hate you.
2. G3 - NICE ride!! In fact, I hate you, too, even though I'd never actually seen one of the cars outside of cartoons and had no idea they were real.

1971 Mach I Mustang

Perhaps my last venture into muscle car land -- every second pick of mine so far has been a muscle car (if you count Mad Max's V8 Interceptor) -- this is one of those personal tie in cars. Chose '71, but I think the '71 to '73s were virtually indistinguishable. Impossibly long front ends (housing a modest 351 actually), and a characteristic rear window that more closely resembled a rear sunroof in size and positioning (and usefulness -- it is almost horizontal). I actually think the first Mach I's ('69 I think) were better looking, but that is because they substantially resembed my first pick (the '67) and I wanted to get a nice clean generational gap before taking another 'Stang. In any case, I tried to convince my dad to get me one of these as my first car -- think the one I wanted was a '72, but close enough. He wisely demurred and waited until he could steer me off someplace a little safer.

While searching for a pic of one of these, got a huge hoot from a commentary left by the owner of one who had posted a picture of his '73 baby over at photobucket (kind of mirrors my own feelings about such cars as I have grown out of teenagerhood):

"1973 Mach 1 Mustang 351 Cleavland 5.7 liter engine. I restored this car about 8 years ago, thought it would be a chick magnet, boy was I wrong. Women for the most part think something like this is making up for an inadequatecy , besides that they like the fast little souped up 4 cylinders nowadays. Most people are impressed till they find out it gets 9mpg and that you have to buy premium or else it won't run worth a hoot lol."

Sorry for the delay everyone. I've reached a point where I don't seem to have obvious layman choices anymore. So, I'll just pick a cool car I've actually been in and hope for the best.

2008 Lotus Elise SC

My uncle owns one of these and took me for a ride through the hills of North County San Diego.

Had a lot of fun and seemed to hug turns rather efficently.

He added that he was pulled over for speeding one time, but got out of a ticket by letting the cop (a week from retirement) take a picture of pulling over the most exotic car in his career.

Also, like the Diablo, it was featured in a video game my uncle had at the house (bought specifically for that reason ... the video game, not the car) ... so my "decisions based on video games" rule applies.

Sweet ride. That is the car that they start with they make my Tesla Roadster.

1934-1936 International Harvester

I didn't want to hold out on this one anymore.. My neighbor's late father bought one about 25 years ago, and it took him about 10 years to finish the rebuild. Sadly I can not use that car in the pictures here. I wish I could but the son keeps it locked up in the garage and him and I aren't on friendly terms any longer. Needless to say I wish the father sold it to me before he died. The son doesn't treat it like the father did and will speed up and down the street with it.

The pics below don't do the car justice because His is MUCH nicer looking than these.

I've been holding my breath, hoping no one would grab this one...

2006 Bentley Continental GT Convertible

The world's slowest production line hand crafts the world's fastest and most powerful Sedans, the results that traditional lines between form and function are blurred. Spectacular exterior finishing, Connolly hides, that have no equal and flawless assembly. Technical specifications and design features are equally clear.

The Continental GT Convertible
Bentley Motors’ new luxury 2+2 convertible, was officially unveiled at the New York International Automobile Show in April 2006. It completes the Bentley Continental model range, following the introduction of the highly successful Continental GT in 2003 and four-door Continental Flying Spur in 2005.

A top speed of 195mph (312km/h)
With a sophisticated all-wheel drive system, state-of-the-art 12-cylinder engine, advanced air suspension and ultra-stiff body structure, the Continental GTC displays all the poise, exhilarating performance and dynamic handling of the Continental GT.

In common with its stable mates, the interior of the new Continental GTC provides an unrivalled standard of craftsmanship, utilizing natural wood veneers and leather hides of the finest quality, which are on full display when you lower the elegant, electro-hydraulically operated soft-top roof.

Just love the style of this car. I think really ahead of its time. Almost 20 years later it still looks like it was designed yesterday.

Time for Evil

It's time to bring some darkness into happy-ville. I challenge your Mad Max, Bigfoot, and anything else you can throw at me:

Christine - 1958 Plymouth Fury

Mua ha ha ha ha!

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG

The first Chitty was a chain driven customised Mercedes chassis with a twenty three litre, six cylinder Maybach engine. It was the first amateur machine to achieve celebrity at the Brooklands race track in 1921. Chitty 1 won two races in her debut appearance, reaching speeds of 100.75 miles an hour in the Brooklands Short Handicap.

I of course will be driving the Movie version one. A car that can turn into an airplane or a boat just can not be passed up! Plus, I had to think of something, VF STOLE my Harry Potter car! :p

I didn't steal it. It's not my fault if you forgot you were talking to someone who was drafting before your next turn. And I did think of it before you did.

:p

Family, schamily. This is all about survival, kid!!!

KG4 is killing it. Chitty Chitty Bang bang? I am ashamed to admit that it did not even cross my mind. And that party machine would have been on my list had I had any idea it existed.

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
This draft has spun wildly wildly out of control and is headed out toward the heavenly body formerly known as the planet Pluto at this point. ;)
