"Classic" Ride Draft Thread - DRAFT COMPLETED!

OK, I'm back from my Monster Madness and ready to return to picking spaceship looking speedsters.

1994 Lamborghini Diablo SE30

I honestly don't know if this is a great sports car or even a great Lamborghini. But I do know it was the best car available in a video game I used to play and one really can't go wrong with basing decision on lessons learned from video games.

Also, the name "Diablo" is possibly one of the coolest words to exist in any language right up there with Zen, Quintessential , Nirvana and Valkyrie.

OK, you guessed it, I have no rational reason for picking this car. It's fast and pretty ... so I like it. And now it's mine.

2008 Subaru WRX STi

OK, greatest Rally car ever. I figure the roads will start to decay a bit after a while, and what car would I want with the messed up roads? THE WRX STi !!!

So here ya go. The 2008 has a hatchback, and a 4dr. I want the 4dr rally edition. the other looks too much like a Ford Focus, or Civic. The WRX is a turbocharged AWD beast that can get off the line in a hurry. Top end isn't the best (because I beat it in my RSX after I turbocharged it) but all in all I love the WRX.

Believe it or not, this was actually on my list entierly because the All Mighty Internet told me it was one of, if not the, greatest rally cars ... and that sounded fun.

Also, that picture exemplifies every possibly reason to choose this car. Well done.

This probably would have been my first pick if I had to enter this draft. Love that car

1961 Jaguar E-Type

I did some additional research since most of my original picks are already gone and stumbled upon E-Type. I can understand how I could have messed up and not drafted it by now, but I'm suprised that noone else picked it yet. I double checked!

Anyway, according to wikipedia:

When released Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".

It was somewhere in the 10-15 range for me. My pops loves the Jags, and I figure with 20 cars to choose from I wouldn't mind having the Jag in the shop 11 months a year. :p

You can stop doing "additional research" now please :)

1982 Delorean DMC-12 - Back to the Future model

What can I say? I just think it would be way cool to have this ride.

From wikipedia:

The DeLorean DMC-12 is a sports car that was manufactured by the DeLorean Motor Company for the American market in 1981 and 1982 in Northern Ireland. It is most commonly known simply as the DeLorean, as it was the only model ever produced by the company. The DMC-12 featured gull-wing doors with a fiberglass "underbody", to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels were affixed. A DeLorean was featured as a home-made time machine in the Back to the Future trilogy.

Since I had it set aside to take considerably earlier than that, I echo the sentiment of that last line.

I came SO close to picking this car.. DANG! I thought it would go another round! GREAT PICK!

Hall of Famer
Back for another muscle car:

1967 Chevrolet Camaro

Short, powerful, with underskirts and an aggressively flared, raised rear end, this was the very first Camaro, and still my favorite. It was designed specifically to compete with the car I selected with my first pick ('67 Mustang). When asked what a Camaro was (its a made up word) in the months before its debut, a Chevy engineer famously responded, "What is a Camaro? A small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs." Each subsequent year it seemed the model would get longer and longer, and then of course they remodeled it into the characteristic 70's era shape. Have always preferred the stocky power of the original.
I eventually will be inheriting one from my Grandpa. It was supposed to be mine when I got my license but he just couldn't let it go. Likes showing it off too much.

:D

I wasn't going this route, but too many have already been picked. This car had a button for every situation you could think of:

KITT (1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am)

In the television show's history, KITT was said to have been designed by the late Wilton Knight, a brilliant but eccentric billionaire and founder of the Foundation for Law and Government, (commonly shortened to "FLAG"), and its parent Knight Industries. KITT's main cybernetic processor was first installed in a mainframe computer used by the United States government in Washington D.C..[1] However, Wilton saw better use for "him" in the Foundation's crime-fighting crusade and eventually the system was installed in the vehicle. KITT was in fact the second vehicle built by Knight Industries with artificial intelligence. His predecessor was KARR, the Knight Automated Roving Robot. KARR was programmed for self-preservation, but this proved to be dangerous to the Foundation's interests. KARR was later deactivated and placed in storage while KITT was given to his new operator, Michael Knight (the new identity of Michael Long).
Unlike KARR, KITT is programmed primarily to protect Michael at all cost as well as all human life (referring to Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics). This is made clear in the pilot episode where Michael asks Devon Miles if KITT will protect anyone driving it. Devon's answer is that KITT's primary function is the preservation of human life, and Michael's in particular.

BTW, this picture is awesome!

No, THIS pic is awesome:

And if I had K.I.T.T. with me after the apocalypse I would very soon have only 19 cars after I shut the annoying talking tin can up by slamming it into the largest solid object I could find while going 90. ;)

KITT was on and off my list, but I just couldn't justify picking a Firebird with anything resembling a high draft pick.

Be glad you did not get the one with puppies. ;)
Or a still of the video of him drunk on the floor?

Edit - my first car was an 82 Firebird. Not because of this show or anything. Should have gotten the ex-CHP Mustang we were looking at instead, but my dad thought I'd get too many tickets with that one and he was helping with the financing.

It's not just a Firebird - It's a Firebird with an Alpha Circuit, Molecular Bonded Shell, Turbo Boost, Oil Jets, Smoke Screen, Ultramagnesium charges..etc, etc, etc.

Is this the puppy picture?

I know it is not. Please do not post that puppy picture, or I will petition to have your mod powers revoked.

I have a similar mustang story. My first year out of college I got a teaching job, and thus needed a car. Here I am with steady cash flow burning a hole in my pocket, and I go to the local dealership. There's a Saleen mustang sitting there, just waiting to be purchased by an irresponsible 21 yr old. The dealer, moron that he was, did not take me to it despite the obvious drool pouring down my chin. I ended up going to a dealer in another town where my parents got their cars and came home with a 2000 Grand Am GT Coupe. Not as irresponsible, but still was a fun car.

Well duh, but I can't look past the skin.

My first car was a '78 Caprice Classic. It was good for doing donuts and freaking out a few kids at the local party hotspots if I pulled up looking like a cop. Not much else.

Maybach Exelero

According to Mercedez-Maybach, this 8 million dollar Exelero is and will stay one-of-a-kind, although the interest in this large sized sports car is huge, Mercedez are unlikely to produce another beautiful monster like this one anytime soon. The Exelero sports a 23 inch wheels and is about 20 feet long. It was created after the engineers of Maybach were challenged to create a heavy 2000 lbs. vehicle that could reach 200 miles per hour. Some rough numbers: Acceleration 0-62 in 4.4 seconds, horsepower: 700 and a V12 twin-turbo engine.

Ok, one of a kind car, how can I possibly pass this baby up! :p

And to start ROUND 6:

A 1930 Mercedes-Benz "Count Trossi" SSK is part of the Boston museum's exhibit.

The ultimate Porsche-designed Mercedes-Benz, the 'S' or 'W-06' class cars were powered by a supercharged, in-line six cylinder engine with overhead camshaft, two updraft carburetors, and dual ignition. Approximately 372 of these Sport models were produced between 1927 and 1934. Forty-two of them were SSKs (for Super Sport Kurz or Short), short chassis two-seaters which could reach 115 MPH with the Sindelfingen factory body. The first vehicle specifically created to be driven on the road and on the racetrack, it proved to be remarkably successful at such venues as LeMans, Monaco, and the Mille Miglia.

Ok, this car is just super sweet. No other explanations necessary...

That car is super sweet. Great pick.

The Maybach is pretty ugly IMHO.

Nice picks, KG4! I especially like the Count Trossi, and might even have to sneak into your city to give it a test drive.

Wait. A 20-foot long car that goes 200 mph? Whoa...
