Seeing these monsters has inspired me to go a different route. Just to be contrary:

No kidding, bugs are great, but since they're within anybody's reach (probably even a few participant's first car?) may as well pick an iconic one.

I was soooooo gonna pick Herbie. There is a new beetle up here that is painted like Herbie, that is where I got the idea.
 
Interesting -- I had not seen those. As a classic care buff my brother absolutely hated the previous generation of Chargers for being a bastardization, and adding on the modern Dodge snub nosed pickup truck frontend onto the supposed throwback Charger body. But for the 2008s they look like they've gone back to a truer update on the front end?

I'm sure he knows, but he will be happy. :)

GREAT pick!

Brick - it is basically a revision of the original and not a bastardization like the Charger (yuck!). My cousin had one of the older ones when I was small and I loved the looks of her car (her dad was a Dodge mechanic and totally stripped and rebuilt it, painted it black with leather interior). This one is pretty sweet as well......

I wasn't going to pick this car for a while, but quite frankly, there are several people I do not trust and I want this car. Therefore, with my 6th round pick I select:

Harry Potter's Ford Anglia 105E

You can't beat the car's optional equipment: It can become invisible, stretch to fit all nine members of the Weasley family (and Harry), and it can fly. Author J.K. Rowling says she chose the car because an old pal owned one and "that car was freedom to us." Ford U.K. produced one million Anglias from 1959 to 1967, when the line was retired.

If I'm alone in the big city, having a car that can fly just might help me remember where I left some of my cars that can go incredibly fast!
 
Ok, I'm not a Potter fan, so what do I know... does the car fly, stretch and turn invisible by itself, or is it wizards that make it do so?

I actually hadn't even considered it. There were only a couple of "tv/movie" cars that I had gotten around to thinking about. too busy thinking about others i must have.

2006 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

Latest in the whole Daytona-Testarossa-Maranello lineage. The usual Ferrari crazy good/crazy fast, 612 BHP, 0-60 in 3.7 seconds etc. And first Ferrari with iPOD connector. I'll need that too (see iPOD draft).

Truth be told, there is so many great Ferraris (all of them, I don't care what puritans say about specific models), that I'll probably pick more as we go. Ferrari is a Ferrari.

Not one I'd choose, but you're right, any Ferrari is a good Ferrari, and they'd have to all be gone before I'd choose a Lambo. But Italian cars should always be red!

Ahhhh This is the last year they made this beauty. The Twin Turbo retailed for about 35-45k in 1998 and now they are well over 50k for a good condition Supra. Why? Because they are one hell of a car!!! This is a modifiers dream car. You can turn a stock 13 second twin turbo Supra into a 11 second Porsche 911 turbo smasher in no time. Plus it would remain street legal! For a 90s car this had the look of a modern car too..

Of course, Ferrari red would be a must. Couldn't find a good red pic earlier and was rushed off to a meeting.

I might be wrong, but I will guess that newer models with sequential gear shifters, modern breaks and all other improvements that occurred generation over generation would be more drivable. For example, while I might be actually able to get around and high speeds in this Ferrari with "my" AC Cobra I am more likely to end up in a ditch or worse.

Dude it would be so friggin worth it. That's a huge part of the appeal of cars from days gone by, you could feel every little bump in the road and you had to be skilled to drive at speed. That little feeling you get when the rear of the car decides to do its own thing where your heart beat is down in your stomach? I love that, though I've always managed to correct out of it :)

Did you ever hear about the $100 test drives with the Cobras?

The dealer would put a $100 bill on the windshield and take the passenger for a high speed spin, if they could grab the bill off the window it was theirs.

A lot of collectors actually prefer the 289s because they are more drivable.
 
Always liked Hot Rods, probably leftover from my brief time living in Reno and attending Hot August Nights.

So, typed Hot Rod into google images and decided to take the coolest one I saw. Which would be this:

Not to restate the obvious, I know nothing about this particular machine's performance or capabilities.

But I do know this epitomizes what I think of when I hear "Hot Rod" ... and I'd be crusing in style down empty boulevards behind the wheel of this.

And of course, the classic flames from the engine paint job just never gets old.
 
Okay, now this will of course be the wrong car from this thus far neglected company to take first I am sure, from a classisists viewpoint, but I am going to follow my general rule on cars: i.e. basically anything before 1964 or so is just a funny looking antique. So this beauty gets the nod instead:

2008 Maserati GranTurismo S

As a rule, I am usually going to go for that sports car/luxury car "touring" class blend, as opposed to the sometimes goofy extremes of the supercar type cars. This is no different -- the newest of the reborn Maserati line, and beatuiful clean lines without extremes. Went for the brand new S version, which dropped in a 4.7 liter 440hp 8 in place of the original 4.2 liter Ferrari 8. Top Speed of this baby is "only" 183, and 0-60 takes itmore than 4 seconds, so you know, second class and all that. ;)

-- As much as I love this car, I don't know that I would typically take it this early. Especially since I've already got the Mako. However, my list is about to go to Obscuresville, so I figured I had better get this one while I still could. Just a beautiful, beautiful car. And, once again, proof that the only good Corvette is an old Corvette.

ZZ Top Eliminator (1933 Ford Coupe)
Perhaps too soon to go with another 30s Ford Coupe but where the last one was all about speed, this one is about style. Plus it magically transforms whoever holds the keys into a ladykiller and comes equipped with 3 fishnet clad hot-mess tramps from the 80s.
