Basketball Trades vs. Baseball Trades

I noticed that Carlos Lee got traded from the Brewers to Texas this morning and played tonight. In basketball, this never happens. It usually takes a few days before physicals are passed and i's and t's are dotted. I would like to see the NBA take a page out of the MLB book and speed trades up a bit.

Might depend too on how the player gets ready to move as well.

I think maybe Baseball players just get a few things and take the next flight out to wherever their new team is.

Then they just get right in the fire.

The number of games in MLB probably dictates more speed too. And there is also the fact that there is no real baseball playbook, other than learnign some signs. So you can pop right into a lienup and be nearly at 100% full effectiveness with no need for introductory periods.

Explain, since baseball has twice the amount of games I would figure that each game only count for 1/2 as much as a basketball game, so why would they report quicker as if they were more important.
