"Co-captains Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis said they wouldn't be opposed to adding a player with Artest's checkered past. "I think anybody would be welcomed until they prove otherwise," Allen said. "Whatever situations happened for a player in another city and for another team doesn't matter to me. I accept them for what they bring to the situation and how they act when they get here."

AP - Knicks president Isiah Thomas said he contacted the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, but he won't trade any of his young players for Ron Artest.
Speaking before New York's game against the Orlando Magic , Thomas acknowledged that the Knicks need to get better. They entered Wednesday's game 6-14 after three straight losses.
One of the ways to do that could be trading for Artest, who this week asked to be dealt from the Indiana Pacers . The New York native said his preference would be to join the Knicks, and Thomas said he'd like to make that happen.
Thomas, who previously coached Indiana, said he called to ask about his former player but wouldn't say what was discussed, or what he thought his chances were of getting him.
"I never discuss the conversations that we have, but you're well aware that a phone call did take place today," Thomas said.
"That ball's in the Indiana Pacers ' court and I'm sure at the end of the day they will make the best decision for their organization and their franchise."

Toronto Sun - You can add Toronto to the list of rumoured destinations for Indiana Pacers forward Ron Artest.
A rumour making the rounds last night had the Pacers badboy and second-round pick Erazem Lorbek going to the Raptors for Morris Peterson, another roster player (potentially Matt Bonner) and a first-round pick in 2006.
The salaries are close enough for a potential deal. Peterson and Bonner make a combined $6.3 million US, while Artest, who demanded a trade earlier this week, makes $6.8 million. Teams can trade players signed during the off-season (as was Bonner) beginning today.
Lorbek is playing professionally in Italy.
Pacers general manager Donnie Walsh has said he is going to insist on a trade that makes sense in the long-term.
Raptors GM Rob Babcock has said he would move a first-round pick (the team has two next year) if he could improve his club.
Press Release - Ron Artest of the Indiana Pacers has been fined $10,000 for making public statements detrimental to the NBA. The statements were made in an interview published in the Indianapolis Star on December 11, and concerned Artest's desire to be traded to a team other than the Pacers.
"Public trade demands by players was a subject discussed at length during collective bargaining negotiations this summer," said Rick Buchanan, NBA Senior Vice President and General Counsel. "The damage caused by these kinds of statements was commonly understood, as was the NBA's intention to hold players accountable for such statements going forward."
If I had to guess, I'd guess Artest goes to the Kings, for Peja. Yeah, you heard that rumor 800 times from 50 different places. Well, it seems like the most reasonable deal for him... It would be a horrible shame if the Sonics were to eventually leave Seattle... Scott Padgett has the trade value of my mousepad... The Hornets might as well stay in Oklahoma City. I don't see how New Orleans can support them in the near future. Horrible, but that's reality... What if the Kings shock everyone and deal Mike Bibby or Brad Miller, keeping Stojakovic? It's quite possible... Go Inside Hoops every day.
USA Today - If the agent for disgruntled forward Ron Artest gets his wish, his client will remain with the Indiana Pacers . Artest went public with his desire to be traded last weekend, and the Pacers are trying to accommodate him.
"Hopefully, it won't get done, and we can iron out the differences and work past this," said Mark Stevens, Artest's agent. "Indiana is a great city, a great organization. Both entities need each other."
Stevens acknowledges that he's engaging in wishful thinking, and stopped short of saying that Artest shares his feelings.
"Ron, in his heart, loves Indianapolis," said Stevens, who hadn't talked to Artest prior to his client going public with his wish to be traded. "He has stated that he wants out. However, with frustration, sometimes things are said that are not the gut intention but are expressed in a manner that can be viewed as a gut intention."
Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh says nothing has changed as far as the team is concerned, and he will continue to seek a trade.
