Artest: "It's not that I don't want to play there . . .

Is this like the infamous meeting with Corliss?

Perhaps. But clearly this isn't in Geoff's hands now. The Maloofs are treating Ron like a superstar here and wanting to meet him face to face. Frankly I am glad. Whether he comes or not this will cut right through the red tape (and note that it will not be tampering and probably should have been done before this started). One way or the other I will feel better with the result after the meeting, because it should be based on actual face to face facts and discussion rather than innuendo and public posturing. And if Ron does come it will be because he and the Maloofs have reached some sort of understanding which will hopefully keep Ron in line for a while (assuming he feels normal human emotions and loyalties etc.). In any case, he could hardly be treated anymore like a king (small K) than to have the team's owners themselves fly out to talk to him. If its his ego that needs satisfying, if he wants to feel special and wanted, well that is about as good as he's going to get.

That's assuming quite a lot; there's no telling what passes for emotions on the planet Neptune...

Of course, I've been pro-Artest since 2002, so I don't have much room to talk, I guess...

RA has normal human emotions.....of a 6 month old......

"Its all about me and you only matter to the extent you meet my needs. If you don't, you don't even exist to me. And if I need something and you don't respond with what I need then I will throw a temper tantrum and make your life miserable. And, by the way, I usually don't know exactly what I want, so that will change constantly and you get to guess."

Fortunately, 6 month olds can't physically hurt people. As a parent, I understand 6 month olds are that way and its normal and you are the decision maker and in control (more or less;) ).

Pedja may be a wuss on the court, but Artest is a wuss in life. A baby.

Artest Could Still Approve Deal To Sacramento
24th January, 2006 - 9:47 pm
NBATV - Ron Artest; Pacer? King? Pacer? King?

Reports are now coming out that Ron Artest could still approve a deal that would send him to the Sacramento Kings , which was first reported Tuesday afternoon.

Mark Stevens, Artest's agent, reportedly told the Kings his client "had no desire" to play for Sacramento, that he would report but "not be happy." [READ]

Here is something confirming meeting between Ron and the Pacers tomorrow, Wednesday
Artest Summoned To Meet With Pacers Brass
24th January, 2006 - 10:19 pm
Chris Sheridan/ESPN - Ron Artest has been summoned to a Wednesday morning meeting by the Indiana Pacers , who want to hear from the player himself on whether he is standing in the way of a trade to the Sacramento Kings for Peja Stojakovic, ESPN.com learned Tuesday night.

Artest and his agent were expected to meet Wednesday morning in Indianapolis with team executives Larry Bird and Donnie Walsh with the hopes the trade can be revived.

The Pacers and Kings were close to a deal Tuesday, and Stojakovic stayed at the team hotel in Philadelphia when it appeared the trade would be finalized. But a source with inner knowledge of the day's events said a call from Artest's agent, Mark Stevens, to the Kings gave them second thoughts about pulling the trigger, and the deal was temporarily shelved.

"The way I was treated today, I was disappointed," Stojakovic told ESPN.com in Philadelphia. "I feel kind of disrespected with the way I found out. Thank God they have TVs here. I understand being traded, but this is situation is weird. I had already planned my flight back to Sacramento, and now everything is reversed.

"I guess this is just a business, but the way I was told and the way I found out, I feel I deserved better from [Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof]. Anybody can get traded in the NBA, but the way I found out, it was disrespectful. I deserve better after seven and a half years."

Stojakovic was expected to travel to New York with the Kings for their game Wednesday night against the Knicks, but there remained a possibility the trade would be revived in the morning. Artest told The Indianapolis Star there was a possibility something still could happen.

"There's no deal," Artest told the newspaper by telephone. "It's not that I don't want to play there ... I'm letting my agent handle things. He's taken over things." Artest told the Star he is not against a trade but would like to be involved in negotiations.

"I just want to meet with team officials of whichever team I'm headed to," he said in a story posted on the newspaper's Web site. "I want to play, but I'm following the rules I have to follow. If I have to sit out, I sit out the season."

The deal would have ended a lengthy standoff between the Pacers and Artest, who was banished from the team in December after requesting a trade and was suspended most of last season for his role in one of the worst brawls in U.S. sports history.

Before the deal apparently broke down, Kings players were already talking about the trade as if it was a done deal.

"Peja will be missed," Kings forward Corliss Williamson said. "He's been in Sacramento for a lot of years, but life goes on in the NBA.

"We'll welcome Ron Artest with open arms and hope he'll be able to help us. You always hear about the situations he's been in and all the hype. Maybe this is the change he needs, to come into our system and flourish." [READ]

This is from unclebuck on pacersdigest.com, it just goes to show it was Artests agent not Artest himself who caused this to fall through. People need to get over their loves for certain players and realize winning is more important than allegiance to players on decline. I hope it goes through 2morrow, and this will get the Kings on the map. Just like chris, bonzi and other players b4 him, Artest will flourish in the Sacramento environment. I appreciate Peja's years of service here, but i am not stupid enough to realize he will never lead us to a Championship

No it makes it clear it WAS Artest who stopped things. He wants to be involved in the negotiations and talk to the team he's going to or he won't play. Boohoo. What garbage. And he is nothing like the other Kings players you mentioned.

I actually think there is a good chance this deal still gets done. Depends on the meeting tomorrow but all media sources are saying there still is a chance.

With Peja's and his agent screaming disrespect and Artest's on the brink of suspension for the season I am thinking both teams have kind of boxed themselves in the corner and will end up making the trade. I would now prefer a 3rd team but not sure that would happen.

I would really like to get Artest no matter what the guy can play when he gets on the court. He reminds me of Dennis Rodmen crazy but can play well.

rodman was eccentric. artest is crazy. as in, he suffers from a mental deficiency.

that said, i still like the idea of him coming to sacramento. i dont know why, either. i've just always been so impressed with his style of play. considering where peja and his agent are at, i think it would be very beneficial for the kings to continue to pursue artest. and even if it doesn't pan out, or flat out explodes in all our faces, there are still teams waiting and hoping to add ron artest to their roster. indy wanted to get the best deal for him, and peja is that deal as of right now. the kings would get more for ron ron in trading him then they would for peja, and they would have the advantage of time in that situation, because artest is under contract for 3 more seasons.

Unfortuantly Rodman was fairly stable for many years and confined most of his weirdness to off court. Artest on the other hand has been a problem his entire career.

I'm not saying I will despise Artest if the deal goes down but woul hope that the team is prepared for the eventuality of dealing with Ron nutting out on them. And the ONLY reason I even begrudgingly would support the deal is beceause of how bad the team is now and how poor Pedja has been playing. If the team were anywhere near functional I would say the risk is no where worth it but at this point there is not much more damage Ron can do to this team. Sad but true.

I think the worst case scenario here is that Artest and his agent could play this in a way where they are scaring the Kings and jerking the Maloofs around just enough that the Kings don't want to go through with the deal while not actually running afoul of league rules and claiming they were misunderstood, Ron never said he didn't want to play there etc. etc. This part of Ron's quote "I want to play, but I'm following the rules I have to follow. If I have to sit out, I sit out the season" is very curious.

Maybe they think they can force the Pacers to deal Artest to LA.

My two big problems: What the @%$#$? makes artest think he has the right to approve or disapprove anything? And my anwer is, the Maloofs gave him that authority by removing the offer and then apparently entertaining it again, based on his temper tantrum. Now, I don't know if this sort of thing has happened before, but it sets a BAD precedent in owner / player relations. This smells like the Maloofs went over Geoff and it stinks.

Problem number 2, I agree with Peja. Ron freaking Artest gets a meeting with the Maloofs to discuss whether or not he comes to Sac (when it isn't his choice at all) and Peja gets to learn about on tv. I am liking the Maloofs less and less. First the whole Phil Jackson / Adelman mess, now this. Bah.

Next time, could you at least post the link to the thread you stole that from, and credit the User whose post you completely copied and pasted? I only mind when you pretend you made it.

He is not the first player to say he won't play for a certain team.......Jim Jackson, Zo Mourning...........sadly, these guys have set up something that needs to be stopped. Hopefully the league sets up something to prevent this.

Oh yeah.........................Bring on Artest.

I don't want him.

At first, I was open to it. Maybe it would have been best for all concerned. Now, I want NO PART OF HIM. There is NO WAY this is just his agent's fault. Isn't amazing how he wanted to be traded - opened his mouth and said it. Then he realized he screwed up, so he tried to take it back. He screwed this up. I say he gets to more chances. I do not want him on our team. I will lose respect for the Maloofs if they allow this to happen. "When you sell your soul to the Devil, there is always hell to pay." I am not comparing Artest to Satan, but you get the point.

From the very beginning he said he wanted to be in L.A. or N.Y.

He also said he would play for any team he was traded to.

Let's wait for tomorrow to hear the full story.

Everything today has been spun, twisted, and glorified by the media.

The Maloofs obviously aren't as down on him as you.

I've been up and down with this all day, but this is great. This cracked me up. Hilarious.

Getting Artest would be the greatest thing that could happen to the Kings. I was so deflated when I heard he wasn't coming. Now I am getting more excited thinking it could still happen.

I think this is what this team needs to get a spark amd maybe start playing ball. Also i think people will be eating there words if this happens plus RA will be a great aditation to this team.

I have to stop fretting about this until tommorrow.

The mere thought of Bonzi/Artest is making me shiver with excitment...Think of the passion and energy...And the potential crazy!

I'm gone...

BRING ON ARTEST!

I agree

...what a tangled web the media weaves.

Agree totally, JJ22L.

And in their zeal to be the FIRST to report this whole thing as it unfolded, the media didn't bother to check facts...

One other thing? I firmly believe players should ALL have their jaws wired shut. It would save so many problems. Artest may or may not have said the wrong thing. IMHO Peja made a BIG mistake in talking to the media this evening. His "disrespected" comment can only lead to further problems. After all, the pot shouldn't call the kettle black...

Lord, what a mess.

 I think Corliss is just speaking from his own experience. He certainly has been traded plenty. I think you are reading waaaayyy too much into it.

Interesting. Marty McNeal, Koz & Coach T were talking about whether or not last year's trade came down to a Webb or Peja has to go. And they seem to think it did. They didn't come out & say that, but the implication was there. And their point was, obviously things have not gone as planned by GP. They said the team would have been better if we kept Webb, and traded Peja for Artest at that time. I almost fell out of my chair at the insinuation that GP could have (GASP) made a mistake!! Not that I ever doubted it, but listening to 1140 I swear sometimes I think they believe GP walks on water.
