@CarmichaelDave

Ok here we go. New arena cost 387 million. Location downtown most likely. Railyards. Funding public/private

Specific funding streams TBD. Will be determined in the next 100 days. Will most likely come from Maloof lease, rental car, hotel tax, etc

More funding options laid out: arena ticket surcharge, arena sales tax.

Arena seating, over 19k. 44 additional luxury suites, 1368 add. prem and club. Hi res scoreboard.

4,100 new construction and permanent jobs across REGION. 556 MIL in new spending during build. 25 mil/yr after build

The Fox 40 graphic is sort of dumb. If you want to point out the similarity, you have to take a different shot of Staples. It's the part at the corner of Figueroa and 11th where there is that office extension that sticks out. That's the main similarity to the Sacramento renderings.

What's Fox40 trying to say, that they just copied the design?

What modern stadium isn't round-like with a mass amount of windows. It's just convention of current stadium design.

Exactly. Besides, using a basic design saves money on architectural costs. If you really want something that's on the cutting edge and really creatively different architecturally, you are going to pay really big bucks to hire a superstar architect. And you run the risk of people not liking it, including architectural critics. I'd love to have an iconic arena, as Sacramento has little great architecture, but if affording an arena at all means being more conventional in design, than I'm fine with it at this point.

The individual personality of the arena will be in details. It would be nice if you could see the river from some upper level(s).

Build it and they will come from all over the surrounding communities for all kinds of great events. The city will own the building instead of the team it will be AWESOME!!!!! All Star Game in Sacramento???

That arena looks like a huge wast-0-time. why build an arena that #1 isn't special, with zero national attention because it doesn't have that one thing no other arena has, visibly(like jerry jones did with his crazy *** tvs). basically is needs to have a light rail station or be next to the amtrak or have a freaking hotel on top of it. anything other than just an arena. who is gonna care if we get a new arena if there isn't anything new drawing them to it. because the novelty of the whole thing WILL wear off if there isn't a HUGE reason to come back for more, put a freaking indian casino inside of the thing, anything, but what this picture is.

who ever drew that mock up should definitely look in the mirror and decide whether or not its worth it. bars and clubs always, thats a given, but if they want this thing to be better than arco(THE OLDEST ARENA EVER MADE! just like home!) it needs to match the times. the times say, go big or go home(or away if we are talking kings) and i want them to stay....but, if we are low balling a budget for a mediocre arena, shame on us.

I know the amount of work it took to muster up the funds and support for THIS mock. but, i would be more embarrassed with a gimmick-less arena than no arena at all. let me put it this way; if you are the last family on your block to remodel your house, would you remodel your home just like everyone else did just to say you remodeled and make improvement on what was already there. Or do you hire a interior designer, and make the house work for you. if you build this pos, half way through construction, someone might decide the insurance is more profitable than the actual product. just thinking out loud.

Shorty, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

LOL an Indian Casino? The arena design is modern and would look great downtown. Saying you'd rather have the team leave than have that arena built means you're a moron.

Shorty. They are not close to low-balling this thing and these people have experience with building arena and stadiums around the world. The average cost per square foot to build the more recent arenas in the NBA is $362. The cost they estimated for the proposed arena come in at $358 per square foot. They did the Amway Center for the Orlando Magic. Maybe you actually need to look at facts. Go to the city council site and the power point presentation is posted there.

The facts and figures and estimates are backed up with countless pages of information in the full report they will be giving to the city tomorrow. The amount of work they put in to this study in only 90 days is incredible. That's what 20+ years of building arenas, stadiums and entertainment venues will do for you. The experts they brought in to consult everything from engineering to the sound system is also amazing. I was suitably impressed with the skill and experience packed into that chamber today. That doesn't mean I accept everything they said, as developers tend toward optimism, but they mean serious business. Developers, by nature have to be optimistic, because they have to take big risks to be successful.

By the way, the picture is what is called a schematic and is by no means fully-fledged architectural plans and specs. They won't start on that until they have financing committed, especially pre-development funding. There's a lot of work to be done before you get to breaking ground. However, I understood some of the concepts they wanted bring to the arena and I agreed with them, in general. Tere will be changes, though, before the plan is finished.

The only thing that could make that arena better is to have you permanently stationed around it, on top of it, behind it, in the bathrooms... constantly spewing this kind of drivel... that would be... priceless. Absolutely priceless. You'd become a celebrity, a running joke, a mascot, and would be THE unique thing that NOBODY could ever recapture. We need you Shorty. Crank it up and set it loose, you're about to get famous! Just remember for your new position: don't ever stop talking!

I guess the concept of no arena, and no team, vs a new arena, and the team staying put, is far too complicated for you to grasp.

I'm actually surprised you figured out how to use your keyboard. I'm sure we could put a gigantic inflatable float of the village idiot on top of the arena if you want visibility. I have the perfect person in mind.

when barkley speaks of thing not pertaining to basketball, we might as well chalk it up as entertainment, but if any person said he doesn't have a genius basketball mind, i would just dismiss it as someone who is uneducated. that being said, i know a little about demographics. i have incited this before, and time will prove the final judge of these squabbles. and as it has been known by me to happen before, i look back on my rants or predictions or opinions however long ago they were, and the one who sounds more insane is not the the one who writes the truth. 2 things i know, its basketball, sacramento, the nba, demographics, and hype. KD, thank you for 8+ years, im dropping this site like a mic. not because of this, but because, i like to be entertained too.-fakeinjury
