2022 Summer League Open Thread (non-Kings games)

Tari's looked really good today but all the rookies in this game tonight side from him have looked bad.

Wiiliams isn’t getting much offensive usage, but his perimeter defense is legit. How he just floats n switches to whoever has the ball is impressive. Best perimeter defending rookie thus far.

People were talking about the Rockets like their rebuild was over but every single young guy on their roster is incredibly raw and probably need another two or three years before we know if they're any good or not.

Slightly older wings with iso skills like he has are pretty much perfect for summer league. I think he'll be good but I'm not sure he's going to be 20 point scorer good.

i don’t see him as an alpha scorer either. More of the two way type, 16-5-5-2 with elite defending.

Jesus, Jabari not even close with some of these misses. I honestly have no clue what's happening with him.

It feels good to be on the other side... even if I had Jabari up there....

on another note, I'm 100% convinced they would've drafted Ivey if not for their KPJ experiment at PG. I don't think they should've bet their franchise on a guy who has a bunch of off-court issues within himself. Just imagine the pairing of Ivey-Green. People would be talking about that future backcourt for years to come.

Well, I think we can put the axe on OKC prematurely making a jump this year like some predicted.

This is like their entire team already and they can't hack it against a nothing Rockets Summer League roster.

Rockets have drafted like four point guards in the last two years and not a single one of them has court vision worth a damn.

SGA > Fox.
Lu Dort = top 5 defender.

50/50 odds they’re better than the Kings this Yr (22-23) Next yr (23-24)? Watch out.

Giddey with the awful turnover. Rockets recover the ball. Not a great way for OKC to close this out.

Borisa Simanic still is very intriguing prospect ELITE 3 point shooter at 6'11 and excellent athlete (plays above the rim)I think his game translates better to NBA style ball as well. Had 3 blocks in 15mins and played good perimeter D. Rebouding is not great and not much play making but at 6'11 and long and some 3 and D def worth a look.

I thought Green was specifically cited time and time again why Houston would never pick Ivey. I have no clue who ultimately can and can't work together, I'm just a fan, but I also had Jabari up there and saw the only path to him falling to us was if Chet went first and then OKC liked Ivey. I also think Houston may have just gone into panic mode after learning Banchero wasn't going to be there and having been lasered in (reading some draft day recaps they really hadn't done any post lotto scouting/further homework on Jabari).

Anyways, fans of teams in full process need to accept that they are going to whiff on these high picks, that's the point of 3-4 years of high level tanking, if you go 2/4 but find two all-stars or better you win. I always try to remind advocates of this approach that it's still a huge gamble and not every draft class is particularly great. I think Portland may learn a hard lesson blowing it up and picking 7th and maybe not getting the best guy there.

I still like Jabari though. But Houston will have to play to his strengths and they are probably a few years from being able to do that.
