No, I wouldn't look. I would probably brag to his/her face about me having their password and seeing how they react.
I know my wife's password and have never bothered to look. I do rearrange her Netflix queue all the time tho

I think the question is why wouldn't you have your spouse's password or why woudln't youy give your password to your spouse? My wife and I have each other's passwords in all our accounts.
I don't have her email password, she doesn't have mine. But by the same token, I don't turn my screen away when I check my mail. To each their own, I suppose.

I would be tempted, but I would like to think not. I don't have a spouse, so it's all hypothetical.
Not only that, when I load up gmail sometimes she was the last one who checked email and her email opens automatically. Same when she checks her email after I used the computer. Who cares?

well i found out when i walked into the room and noticed he was typing in a password and the letters had not yet converted into dots. what was annoying is that the password is an exgirlfriends name...you know the one that got away. the relationship was so long ago it's hardly worth bringing up.
To be fair, I've had the same password on my computer(s) for close to 10 years. Speaking from a dude's standpoint, he's probably too lazy to change it.
When I wanted to know my wife's password, I just asked her for it and she gave it to me. I needed it to get some information that had been sent to her and she wasn't near a computer, so she just gave it to me. And if she ever asks me for mine, I'll just give it to her. Luckily it's not an ex-girlfriend's name, so I don't have to worry about that.
Wait, back up: what kind of mail service is he using that doesn't echo the password as dots?

Interesting question. I'm not married now, but if I judged by prior relationships, I'd say no and I would have been willing to give my partner my password. Now if I suspected something fishy was going on....I don't know. Of course, if he wwere cheating he could easily set-up an account I don't even know about, I guess. Course, if I caught that, it would be fishy.

I routinely check my husband's email - only because he won't remember to do it himself unless he's expecting something. In fact, since we changed ISP's, I don't think he even knows his password!
And yet, oddly enough, this was my first thought, too...
As far as the ethical question itself is concerned, if you look, you look. But if you look and then feel guilty about it, I'm thinking there's a lot more going on here than just an old girlfriend's name as a password to an email account.

I created my spouse's password for him. In fact, I still don't even think he has memorized his email address, let alone the password.
well, i suspect that his password is his ex's name because he is in fact lazy...extremely lazy. but maybe he has feelings for her still? i don't know. would it matter? not really. maybe there are many of us who regret blowing a relationship (in reality it probably never would have worked out anyway). and maybe we are all entitled to those feelings... does that make sense?
i felt guilty because it's like looking thru someone's purse...just not right. but that didn't stop me from looking again last night for the final time.
