Wilson Chandler

Hey guys, being a Knicks fan aswell, I wondered what do you guys think of trying to get him in the summer?

He's a restricted free agent, but if the Knicks do get Melo eventually in the summer, or even in a trade that doesn't involve Chandler himself - we(knicks) won't really have enough money to resign him aswell if even a not so big offer comes by from another team.

He's one of my favorite Knicks togehter with Landry, and if he leaves the Knicks i'd love him to go to my 2nd favorite team(even if it means Omri needs to step back or even get traded).. he can shoot the 3, he plays solid D, he block shots, can cover the 4 spot at times too, can drive to the basket, create his own shot of the dribble.. just overall a very complete and good all-around player who has shown massive improovment each year he's been in the league.. he also has the same damn blank expression on his face no matter what :D

So my question is : would you want the Kings to get him in the free agency, and if so what contract do you think he should be given?

I think he would be an upgrade over Donté and maybe Casspi (they have different style of play) but I dont think the Kings should overpay to have him because soon we gonna need cap space to resign our own players (Tyreke, Casspi, maybe Beno, Thompson, etc)... If we cant get any top tier name (of course I'm not talking about superstars like Melo, they wouldnt come to play here) but there are many good free agens in 2011...

If he agrees to something like 4~5M / year for 3 years Id do it...

I like Chandler. He seems to have improved his 3 pt shot this year, and that was his biggest weakness. He's a good defender and a decent to good rebounder for the SF position. So yeah, I would like to have him on the team. Having said that, I'm not sure that Casspi won't be a better player in 2 or 3 years. So I'm not willing to break the bank on him. He's making a little over 2 mil this year and the Knicks would have to give him a qualifing offer of just over 3 mill to keep a restricted free agent. So obviously, someone would have to make him an offer of 4 mil or more to intice him away. If the offer isn't good enough, it might be in his best interest to just take the qualifing offer and wait a year to become an unrestricted freeagent.

A lot depends on whats in the new CBA. So its really hard to project anything without knowing what the new rules are. Which could influence his as well.

A solid 3 point shooting SF?? Sign me up! (at the right price of course, although to me he is one of the most enticing free agents available this summer)

Just for the record:

Wilson Chandler 3-pt%:
Career: 0.326
2010-2011: 0.381

Omri Casspi 3-pt%:
Career: 0.386
2010-2011: 0.416

I know Casspi is a better 3pt shooter, but I think Chandler does other things better than Casspi. Right now Casspi's only other real asset is rebounding. He scares me when he puts the ball on the floor. Chandler is more multi-dimensional in my eyes, but obviously with each season I'd figure Casspi would improve in his weaker areas.

And for the record: I do not want to replace Casspi with Chandler. But the two of them as our SF rotation would leave me a happy fan.

Chandler's a MLE player (if there still is an MLE next season), not anybody's fist choice as a savior. And if he's finally moved out of our Donte/Casspi weight class, it is only now in his 5th year running the wackyball system

Chandler is above Casspis ceiling right now imo btw... even if Casspi shoots better from 3, Chandler brings so much to the table.. he'd be the perfect X factor on a contending team.

I mean if you watch Knicks on a regular basis you'de for sure be all over Chandler as the future 3... getting him for a 6-7mil a year deal orso would be well worth it.

I was sure i'd get more positive responces tbh :D I think on the Kings POV, assuming we draft a PG, Chandler imo is a perfect 3rd option after Reke/Cousins, and right now way above what we're hoping to get with Casspi/Donte.

It would be worth persuing a potential sign and trade with NY sending Casspi the other way come season end. They wouldnt want to lose Chandler and i doubt Chandler would want to leave NY for the bright lights of Sacto but in Omri they'd have a good consolation which appeals greatly to their fan base. We would obviousely have to pay over and above his market value to get him in but im all for it as long as its only a few mill or so considering he is still young and would fit in really well as a 3rd option

I don't think I'd be willing to give up Omri to get him, but I'm for signing him as a FA, assuming its not vastly overpaid (and shouldn't be if the rumors of the new CBA are true). As much as I love Donte, we can only wait so long; and as long as PW is coach here, Donte is not going to see his potential. I would be more than happy with a Chandler/Casspi rotation at the 3.
