what do you guys think? can we be a contender if we do make it? did we just throw the season away?

We'll make it. Anywhere 6th-8th, meaning either the Spurs, Suns, or Sonics in the first round.

It's tough to compete without a strong front line. If only we had a quality power forward...

yeah, really! hey, wasn't there a great power forward that some team was willing to GIVE away?? oops, too late.

sigh... I would guess we make the playoffs, but I would see a first round exit unless these guys have some qualities that they've been hiding up till now.

We'll probably still make it. Not much chance to do anything now though. Just another lower seed. Might get by the first round if we get the right matchup. But more likely not -- too many new players, leadership/experience been traded away, no post game, no interior defenders etc. We're just an opponent.

Have no idea how pickin up three turds is suposed to help long term, but whatever we're planning on doing, its not this season.

The Kings have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the NBA. While we all hope this trade works out and the team rediscovers itself, I won't be holding my breath. As it was before Webber, just making the playoffs will once again become a great achievement. Long gone are the expectations of a championship parade any time soon in Sacramento.

the funny/sad thing is, it might actually come sooner now that webb is gone. I think the Kings lost a chance to win a championship with this team when they lost to the lakers in the WCF that fateful year. But fans are not rational, and I believed in them every day since then, and even with Webb gone, that will not change.

They might probably move Miller to PF and bring O'tag to play center.
But then again Adleman is not really too keen on playing O'tag.

Before looking I was inclined to say yes, after looking at the numbers im inclined to say no. Here's what it looks like from our 5 seed down.

Sac: 34 - 20
Hou: 32- 23
Mem: 30 - 24
LAL : 28 - 24
Min : 27 - 27
Den: 25 - 29

I definitely don't see us holding off a hot Houston or Memphis. If the Lakers without Kobe can be this close to the Kings with Webb I can only shudder at what will happen when the reverse is true. That means we have to hold off an underperforming Minnesota and Denver.

Two of these teams will miss the playoffs, if I were betting I would bet on the Kings and Denver being those two teams.

I was starting to have doubts we might might make it anyways without a change in the starting lineup. Besides I am so sick of the 2nd round and out stuff of the last few seasons. Maybe we match up better against the elite teams now.

the forward position is very important, especially in the west. you have to worry about the likes of duncan, KG, dirk, etc every night. can darius guard those guys? or atleast give us almost the same numbers as the opponent will (like cwebb can do)? i don't think so.

so wow. this trade sucks.

Better question: Could Webber guard those guys??? Scoring on the other end aside. What does it matter when you let the opponent get the bigger numbers.

webb has shown he can guard those guys when his knee is feeling okay. look at that spurs game where we won. he guarded duncan as best as anyone could. i'm not saying webb could guard those guys consistently, but atleast he can put up almost the same numbers as his counterpart will. so that will just wash the matchup instead of it going completely against our favor.

How many times has Chris played that well on D this year. He's 1-52 in that regard.

care to explain why you think the Kings acquired Sam Dalembert?

it was a mistake, I was misinformed.

Yet, you seem to know all the details of this trade, and still seem to think the Kings haven't just been bent over by Philadelphia.

You're turn to explain, sir.

my point is that he can match the number his opponent will drop on him so it could become a wash. you think darius can match KG's numbers? duncan's? that's just my point. no one on this team is capable of guarding those PFs. and now, it gets worse. cause we won't be able to atleast match their production.

Their production can be matched by spreading the production across the 4 other all-star calibur guys we have.

I think Petrie knows a lot more than either you or I about Webber. He did not do this trade because he is in love with Peja, as payback for killing the arena deal, or any other nonsense that has been brought up. His only job is to make the Kings a better team, and he's damn good at his job. Do you think Petrie would have done this deal if he thought he Kings were getting bent over by Philly? Just because most Kings fans don't understand or know his reasoning doesn't mean GP is on crack.

we'd be wasting so much effort trying to match that one guy's production, and be killed by his other teammates. without atleast a body like cwebb's, the bigs in the west will destroy us.

He may not be on crack, but he sure as hell isn't the Gift from God that we Kingsfans thought we had. GP has been the best GM in this league for a few years now, and he threw all that away tonight, IMO. You're right, he does know more about Webb than me or you or anyone else here. Still doesn't justify this trade. Webb has more talent than the three we got back COMBINED... maybe there is a lot more to this than we know, but unless it's something HUGE, it's a lot easier to believe that Petrie just lost it, got nervous, and pulled the trigger on a stupid deal.

Will we make the playoffs? Sure. I think NBA players get a break on buying tickets.
