Will Reke leave?

#64
Forums, lol

Actually I'm sure I saw a couple people here saying the same thing.. Appearantly if Reke becomes a superstar he won't want to play for a small city like Sac
All I have seen said on this forum is that it is hard to get Superstars to COME to a small market. As for keeping them once they are already there, I think that is an easier proposition. Although, a lot will depend on the state of the team when they become FAs. If the Kings are a playoff team that is in contention, I think it would make it much more difficult for a Superstar quality player to look elsewhere. One thing that history has taught us is that the grass is NOT always greener on the other side.

Didn't Tyreke make a pre-draft post on his twitter or something specifically asking Mr. Petrie to draft him? I could swear that he is friends with Donte or something, and that he wanted to come to SAC more than any of the other top 10 teams (draft wise). If anything, he seems happy here. This topic came way, way out of left field. Speaking about the past, most of the stars (or solid players) who have played here seem to really like the City (Webb, Vlade, Christie, Bjax, etc.) Hell, it seemed Rubio only wanted to play here or in L.A. Sacramento's not even that small of a market, it's more middle of the road.

I don't get it. A thread I made about this team being better off without Kevin Martin gets locked within 1 minute but this senseless thread is left to go 4 pages? Wow.

Not how it works. He has a 2 year contract with team options for years 3 and 4. They can offer him an extension after year 3 which takes effect after year 4.

So basically his first 4 years are under contract if the team picks up his options. If they dont pick it up he becomes a free agent.

Year 5 if he doesnt sign extension becomes restricted year where the Kings can match any offer. So he would have to play year 5 at a lower salary to become an unrestricted free agent in year 6.

So if that is the route he wants to take he would be losing a ton a money by not taking the extension after year 4. The qualifying offer in year 5 is 6.9 mil. So he would lose the difference of the extension minus the qualifying offer plus be behind a year on the % increase in salary.

So basically worry about it in 4 years.
One additional note would be that we would also hold his Bird rights, assuming nothing changes in the new bargining aggreement. Which means we would be able to offer him more than any other team in year 6.

Would you like to know the secret behind this? Here, let me tell you:

You made the Martin thread after it has already been made by other posters about 25 thousand times, and this thread is one of a kind.

Don't start discussions that have already been discussed

Yes he is going to leave, he hates Sacramento and wants no part of the resurgence of this franchise. He could care less.

While the NEW thread you created was locked, your post was moved and is part of an active discussion about Kevin Martin coming off the bench when he returns.

As with most threads, if you aren't interested in this discussion - which wasn't being duplicated elsewhere - simply move on.

Now that we've established that we can probably keep Reke, let's move on to the other unpleasant questions we've all been avoiding.

Are we depending too much on Reke to bail us out of games?

How are we going to cope with Reke's slowing down as he gets older? Everything eventually passes you know...

Do we retire Reke's jersey, Sean May's or both?

We need to trade him while his value's high ... time to stop living in the past.
