how many stars actually blot town when there rookie contract expires ? It would be minimal, less than minimal. Rekes here to stay for sure, hes growing with this team

The Sacramento Kings newest additions had the following to say after the 2009 NBA Draft:

Memphis point guard Tyreke Evans (4th overall)

On his excitement level leading up to being selected:
“I’d say from 1-10, it’s probably a 10. I’m very excited it’s over with. I know where I’m going, I love Sacramento, it’s nice out there and I’m looking forward to playing.”

On what he’ll bring to the Kings:
“I’m going to bring a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of energy, a lot of heart out there and try to play hard every night and win as many games as I can."

On his general thoughts and going number four to Sacramento:
“I worked so hard to get here, and now it is here. Sacramento is a great place to play, and I am just really excited.”

On what made him think Sacramento was the place for him to be:
“I thought it would be a good fit for me and they are young. They are trying to build something together. With me coming in, I think I can bring a lot in scoring, passing and being a good teammate. We can get back on track this year and win some games.”

On his message to Kings fans:
“Come out and watch us this year, Kings fans, it’s going to be an exciting season. We’ll be fun to watch and I’ll be fun to watch this year, and keep cheering.”

So why exactly after leading the Kings to their first 4 game winning streak in years, becoming a leading candidate for rookie of the year and quietly positioning himself to be the team's franchise player is Evans pulling a complete 180 and already ploting to bolt 3 years from now?

I know this is hard for us Kings fans, but let's all stop waiting for the other shoe to drop and just enjoy the ride for now. :)

Did Webber leave when his contract was up? Then again, the Kings were championship contenders when his contract expired. If the Kings aren't good when Evans' rookie contract expires, then the small market argument won't really matter.

Forums, lol

Actually I'm sure I saw a couple people here saying the same thing.. Appearantly if Reke becomes a superstar he won't want to play for a small city like Sac
Rekeramento really isnt that small. Being the fact we are a major California city mite entice him enough. Only place I seem him signing with is his hometown team to be close to family.
I hope he never leaves till he retires

I'd like some opinions about the following.. I see a lot of people say something along the lines of 'Tyreke will leave the Kings if he becomes a superstar of some sort". Do any of you think so? If he became REALLY good, would he want to play somewhere else? This kinda worries me
I actually have this thought before the season even starts. And it's a feeling that I hated.

About the time Tyreke Evans will apparently turn out into a complete Superstar, Kobe Bryant will be about to retire. And knowing how good the GM of the Lakers and how bad our GM Petrie seemed to be for the past several years now, somehow and someway, the Lakers will be able to get Tyreke Evans from us.

And of all teams. The lakers!

If Sacramento has a good team, good players will wanna play for the Kings. Look at San Antonio!!! If you think that SA is a modern megalopolis a-la London, you are wrong and they have pretty solid players I must say.

While it is VERY early to think about or even discuss this, I do see the gist of your post. You're saying that if he becomes the superstar we hope he becomes, he will bolt town.

Well, when he does become that superstar we believe he can be, the Maloofs better be ready to pay because he's going to want $$$ + Long Term. If they do that, then no worries whatsoever.

But anyways, I'd rather talk regular season 2009 than offseason 2014 right now though. ;) :)

if the front office commits to these young kids and say they are the future.. and that they will do everything in their power to be competitive i dont reke leaving....

Casspi
Thompson
hawes
Evans

thats like you're future starting line up.... whats missing... hmmmm ;)

its too early to predict if he will leave or stay... as long as we dont hire don nelson for anything.... EVEN handing out the towels... then our players wont leave

C'mon ... I'm sure he should be pretty good with taking out the trash... All he has to do is walk out the door and the job's done

I would like you to go and post the quotes. I read almost every post on this fourm. I've never read one quote from anyone, except you, about Evans leaving early. I'm not calling you a liar. I just want to see the quotes.

If I were a Laker fan, I would be reveling in this thread and the gloomsday mood 9 days in to a four-year contract.

But it led me to ask the question: who was the last player to leave Sacramento in free agency and go on to make a significant impact in the NBA elsewhere?

Vlade left in free agency when he was done and we were no longer interested in signing him. He scored 34 points and grabbed 32 rebounds total thereafter. Bonzi turned down a bad offer chasing a mythical bigger contract and managed to squeeze out 73 games in two seasons before washing out. Mobley had a decent career after he left us, so that's one, but we did let him walk without an offer...

Webb stayed, Peja signed an extension, Bibby signed an extension...we just don't have a history of losing our high-power players we want to keep to free agency. Could somebody point out the last time it happened?

I'm asking for opinions, not predictions. What's wrong with discussing future possibilities?

And VF, I get the whole contract thing, but couldn't Tyreke start the whole team drama because of his lack of desire to play for the Kings?

I'm NOT saying he will do that, just wondering

Are you really serious? I suspose that I could hit by a hunk of ice falling from the sky too. I could dream up all kind of senario's that have no basis in fact.

Evans can't become a restricted freeagent untin four years from now. And then the Kings can match any offer he gets and keep him. This entire thead is just a bunch of nonsense.

Well, if you say he "loves playing for the Kings", I automatically assume you have some ground to this statement, and that's ALL I wanted. My question has been answered:)
Since your the one that brought up this ridiculous premise. The burden of proof lies with you, not us. Your the one that said he doesn't, or, maybe he doesn't like playing here. We didn't. Prove your point. Come up with some quotes from Evans. Quotes from his family or a close friend. You created this thread, so you prove it.

You started this thread by making outrageous, I'll be kind and call them assumptions. You offer no proof of these assumptions. And then you ask us to prove you wrong. Sorry dude. You've got it back a**wards..

Evans will only leave if the Kings cant match the best offer for him. The way Tyreke is starting to look like a franchise cornerstone I believe the front office will anticipate this and have tons of cap room available when the end of his rookie contract comes around. No worries.

3 years later, we offer him what he is worth.....decline.....team option.....1 year later we offer him what he is worth....decline.....team option.....1 year later we offer him what he is worth, and probably more than he could make any where else....decline.....sign and trade. He may not like sac, but he is stuck for a handful. Will reke leave....eventually....all good things must come to an end. will he leave prematurely? not a chance. Can this thread be closed, it only serves to nauseate me.

If people would quit responding it would simply drop off the front page of the index into the vast archives of threads no longer being discussed.

Not how it works. He has a 2 year contract with team options for years 3 and 4. They can offer him an extension after year 3 which takes effect after year 4.

So basically his first 4 years are under contract if the team picks up his options. If they dont pick it up he becomes a free agent.

Year 5 if he doesnt sign extension becomes restricted year where the Kings can match any offer. So he would have to play year 5 at a lower salary to become an unrestricted free agent in year 6.

So if that is the route he wants to take he would be losing a ton a money by not taking the extension after year 4. The qualifying offer in year 5 is 6.9 mil. So he would lose the difference of the extension minus the qualifying offer plus be behind a year on the % increase in salary.

So basically worry about it in 4 years.

Or don't. If he's that good, the Maloofs will do whatever it takes to keep him around. Seriously. Look at the deal they gave Chris Webber, look at the deal they gave Mike Bibby, look at the deal they gave Brad Miller. They are still fans at heart and I cannot see them allow Tyreke Evans to walk if he turns out to be everything we hope he will be. He has the potential to bethe cornerstone of the rebuilt franchise...You don't remove the cornerstone.

Wow this topic is pathetic. We are really worried he'll leave? Even if he wanted to we could just match whatever offer he gets once he's a RFA. Calm down people, Sacramento(with a new stadium) is a lot nicer than a lot of other cities in the NBA.

Wow what a thread, 9 games into the new season... I mean seriously - who cares what "other forums" say...

Someone on another forum said Obama is really Al-quida because he has some inside information... I believe him do you guys? /sarcasm
