who the eff is denham brown?

got this from realgm ..

Former UConn swingman Denham Brown has been playing in Bismarck, North Dakota, but could get a call from the Kings in the future.

?? anybody have anything on this ? ..thats all the article said

According to wikipedia, he was selected 40th in the 2nd round of the 2006 Draft after playing in UConn.

He is Canadian who currently plays for an Italian team, but also played in Turkey.

When he was in high school he scored 111 points in one game.

Nbadraft.net describes him as a very good scorer who is unselfish, a team player, good attitude, hard worker, excellent free throw shooter, and very clutch.

No slight to Brown, but I hope that our days of trying to corner the market on swingmen are over. I like having some players that aren't 6'6" shooters.

Thing is, he isn't even a "shooter" in the general sense as he is a scorer. Solid college career, but didn't stand out in any one area besides scoring, and with the amount of scoring guards that litter the league he needs to show much, much more than that. Doesn't help that he's average athletically and quite one-dimensional. He was always a mid-2nd rounder on most boards but once scouts studied him more extensively, he was revealed to be a fringe draft pick. Pass.

ok but really should we actually be questioning petrie? i mean he doesn't take chances in the risk sense but he goes for the solid players..

he is young(25), has good size for his position, decent athleticism and he's cheap.... not only that but douby is useless and garcia is salmons back up... the only person this could hurt is greene.

No please! Denham Brown played for my team in Italy last season, I saw him about 30 times and I think he's not a player that could play in NBA.
His shot selection is terrible and he's a bad shooter. Last year he shot 33% behind 3point line, less than 40% from the field and 68% from the free throw line. He's TO prone, usually with a travel (but our referees are more strict than yours about travelling violation) and his basketball IQ is horrific (in my opinion). He can't play SF in NBA, he's a SG over there. No doubt about this.

His strenghts: he's not a bad defender, great atleticism, good rebounder for the size, a team player and... nothing else. For the italian level, I mean. So, I don't think he could be a great sign.

Here's his stats with my team...

I hope to have been useful.

Ok, I think we're probably getting way too worked up over a player who at most would be the 11th-12th man. Honestly, if Petrie thinks he has potential and wants to give him a shot on our bench or the D league to prove himself then more power to him. Best case, he turns out to be a potentially valueable role player. Worst case, he winds up waving a towel around on the bench for a few months before dissapearing.

thanks for that -- always useful to hear from someone who has seen him play.

the stats BTW for those unable to make sketchy translations of Italian:

30mpg 9.7ppg (40.9 FG% 32.9 3pt% 68.2 FT%) 4.7reb 1.3ast

With the notes that assists are harder to be credited for in Europe, and the 3pt line is shorter (still shorter rihgt? I heard that FIBA was considering pushing it back?).

Anyway...if there's anything there, its not in the numbers. But if Geoff wanted to give the guy a call, what do we care? Just be a 15th man, or maybe summer league invite, not as if he would stealing minutes or much money. Only question I would have owuld be could we even afford him? We basically had to sell off Ewing and Singletary because we were so close to the luxury tax, so not sure we could even add a guy this minor. Source is credited as realgm, but where did they get it from? You sometimes get some pretty shaky local newspaper sources and whatnot on those things.

RealGM was quoting the NY Daily News. It was literally just that one vague line as a bullet item in a sidebar.

Kind of recall reading somewhere that we were about 800K below the LT.

So, yes, we could afford the guy, but why? Would take our roster to 15, forcing us to waive guys (likely him), if we make a trade bringing in more players than going out.

I'm Canadian and I've seen him play on the national team. He was one of the best players on the team the past couple years, but that really isn't saying much. I think he is a good player, but I see him as a solid 7th or 8th man at best.

Yes, at the moment the 3pt line is shorter here.
40,9% isn't the percentage from the field, but just in 2pointers.
So, mixed with 3pointers, he shots under 40% from the field.
Then.. 0,3 blocks 1,3 steals 2,7 turnovers ... per game obviously.

Sincerely I see him as a solid 7th or 8th man in a 6 men rotation :D
