I voted for Larry Brown, but I don't think this poll has enough outside the box options. I also think there is no chance of Turner, Porter, Carlissemo or Jordan. Probably not much chance of Cooper either.

My choices would be:

Mario Elie
Brown
Van Gundy

Only reason Petrie put the "kabosh" on Brown is because he is under contract with the Knicks and Petrie can't talk about him in any way shape or form potentially becoming our coach.

i think you're probably dreaming there. petrie is petrie. if he was interested in larry brown regardless of brown's contract status in new york, he likely would have said something very vague, in the realm of "larry brown is a very good coach, but we're looking into a lot of different head coach prospects." to say that the kings have absolutely no interest in larry brown at this point in brown's career is pretty definitive, if you ask me.

If you heard it live on the radio - the way he phrased it - it did not sound like Geoff was just being political or staying on the right side of the rules... but rather that the Kings do not want anything to do with Larry Brown.

That's exactly what I thought when I was listening.

It's pretty simple, He has to say the have absolutely no interest in him or the team gets a HUGE fine.

I'm not saying they are drooling over him or what not but they just can't comment either way and the safest way to do it is to say they have no interest in him.

I, for one, believe that Larry Brown won't coach this year. If he gets fired/bought out by New York he will take a year off and then maybe coach another team in the East. No one will give him a long term deal anymore and I don't think he would be interested in coming this far out west.

That's really not true. All kinds of vague stuff doesn't draw any attention at all. "Larry Brown is obviously a great coach, but as of right now he is the coach of the Knicks" would do it. So would "we'll just have to see how that plays out", I did not hear the interview, but there is certainly no tampering rule which requires you to come out and say that you are NOT interested.

I think that the realistic choices out of list are PJ and Stan Van...wonder how many folks would put a vote in for Reggie Theus as a darkhorse for this job, had he been on the list??

Silas is a wonderfully slightly above average coach with a sub-.500 coaching record and no history of coaching at an elite level. Also getting up there in age of course. You birng in a guy like that to be a steward maybe, keep things orderly while you rebuild, maybe make the playoffs, in a really good year maybe sneak over the 50 win barrier, but if you are angling for a title in what universe has Silas proven he can get you there (let alone more than Adelman)?
Start of solid foundation ..... with the King's, those stats/numbers have nowhere to go but UP.

One think I keep hearing on the radio is the King's are looking for a coach for THE LONG HAUL.

????? ... just exactly what are they saying .... ?????

The one BIG THING I like about Silas, he's not much for the spotlight, nor is he much on HAVING TO BE IN THE HEADLINES.

I followed his NBA playing-days and while watching him play ... the one word that comes to mind is EFFECTIVE.

I followed his SHORT coaching debut, and it was ALL POSITIVE. He never was really given much of a chance in Cleveland.

I don't see Paul Silas as hurting or slowing-down a franchise, but more "giving/putting/pointing that franchise in a positive direction".

Watching the Monarchs game, mainly to see coach Whiz. They have him miked and all you hear from him for the most part is defensive coaching.
Encouraging all his players to get in defensive stances and to stop standing straight up, ect.... If there wasn't a question of NBA player respect he would have my full vote.

thats just the thing i beleive the Maloofs want the headlines and want to be in the forefront of the NBA news. Thats one of the reasons they got Artest they knew he would drae fans and media attention. They may get Dennis Rodman to coach us that way we are garunteed about 40 nationlly televised games.

While Ron Ron does bring media attention and intrigue, I don't think that was their main motivation behind bringing him to Sacramento. I believe the Maloofs WANT to win and let's face it- I think our record before and after the trade pretty much speaks for itself when we analyze who got the better end of the deal. Peja was unhappy here- he was going to be a FA at the end of the season, so we may have gotten NOTHING for him in return. Artest is an extreme talent and although it was a risk, I think it ended up working out for the best.

And come to think of it, doesn't Artest idolize Rodman- maybe bringing him in wouldn't be such a bad idea after all?:p

Should we do a new poll with Whiz and Musselman as specific options, in light of Stein's article summary on the topic? Of course, it is Stein after all, so maybe we should just ignore it ;)

I thought long and hard about this question....like for a week....I went with Mario because I think he has the biggest upside on the current list. The rest really do not excite me.

after much consideration, i have finally cast my vote in this poll. stan van gundy (if he is, indeed, a kings head coach prospect) would be the safest choice among the possibilities listed, and i could live with it...but mario elie, imo, has the greatest potential for quick turnaround and high reward. he's young, fiery, hard-nosed, and i imagine he'd shape up to be a no-nonsense type of head coach. he'd stress defense, and certainly appears to be the type of coach that would do one of those things that rick adelman wasn't very good at: motivating his players. with 3 championship rings as a player, and a kick-in-the-*** attitude, i imagine he'd quickly and easily earn the respect of the kings players. the more i hear about elie, the more i am convinced that he is the best, if not safest, choice among those on the "short list."

I would love mario elie...i think they should get a young coach with a better feel for the current type of players that the NBA has

Stan's not happening. He doesn't want to come here, and I don't think the Heat would give us permission anyway.

Out of the current "big 4" or whatever:

1.Musselman
2. Elie
3. PJC
4. Whiz

For me, it's getting to the point where I just want them to get SOMEBODY into the job. I'm already tired of the "Star Search" drama. I still think - and have from the beginning - that the Maloofs already know who they're going to hire.
