NO ONE has anointed Kevin as a future savior. All we're saying is we have hopes for the guy. Why is it that in this poll anyone who selects Martin is "anointing" him?

Gerald was praised for his work ethic? I don't think so. I know I mentioned that he took a lot of jumpers in warm-up but I don't really remember people talking about his work ethic that much - not that it really matters.

Guys, some of us really like what the kid shows. What's wrong with that?

I like the kid and like what I have seen from him but as of right now he has yet to score double digits in an nba game, as mcsluggo said. VF, reading through this thread and reading the recent stuff on this board about KM it is hard not to think that many have anointed him the future savior. While there is nothing wrong with being excited about a kids future, there is something to be said with regard to realistic expectations.

Gerald was not praised for his work ethic. I remember reading comments in the paper and comments from Bobby Jackson that Gerald was not putting in extra work. His outside shot never improved to the point that he could make you pay for backing off him. The handful of Bobcat games I've seen this year hasn't changed my opinion. He still can't shoot.

Why are you guys making such a big deal? Everybody knows that Special K will be a very good player in the future. He just starting playong 15-20 minutes! Guve Kevin some time. He will learn.

Yes, there is something to be said for realistic expectations. But why should that preclude those of us who are really excited about what we think Kevin could become from expressing that excitement?

It's not an either/or type of thing. There's room for everyone's opinion. What I find a little frustrating is that some seem to feel we're wrong for being excited and very optimistic. Sorry, but that's just the way I am and I don't see a durned thing wrong with it.

I have absolutely no problem with people who aren't yet convinced - and they may end up proving right in the end. None of us can possibly know at this moment in time, can we?

We're all Kings fans. We differ on things every day, from what color the away uniforms should be to who our coach should be. Why should what younger will eventually prove to be the most successful in the NBA be any different?

:D

To be perfectly honest, I am very surprised how this particular poll has gone, and at the same time I am not shocked.

I am surprised, because in my view the contribution of Hedo Turkoglu, and the exhibition of talent that he displayed in the three years he was here, clearly showed me that he is going to be an established NBA player for years to come. And how old is he? 25 years old. Somebody mentioned that basically we have seen all of what we are going to see from Hedo. I do not agree with that at all. I know the rap on him is his inconsistancy. But I believe that if Hedo was the starting small forward in Sacramento, with the confidence that Webber and Bibby has in him, he would succeed here.

I am not shocked how the poll has gone, because we as Kings fans, we like the flavor of the month. Not to say that Martin is not going to be good or great. I love what I have seen from him, but it is way too early to gauge what this cat can do. He has skills no doubt. Tonight under the white hot lights of Madison Square Garden will be a nice test for him.

I find this to be reasonable.

I voted for J-Will. Then after clicking vote I realized what I did.

Let the record show I have recinded my vote for J-Will, and now will vote for Kevin Martin.

I would like to vote for Barnes, but he was a jerk to me in geometry in high school, so I'll wait. ;)

Agreed.

Coachie and exCoach Wetzel said that Gerald didnt work enough on his game. That he had to be coaxed into extra work all the time. That doesnt sound like someone who really worked hard on their game to me.

The Rook has shown so far that he works his tail off.

Can somebody please vote for the Del Campo product?! Thats just not right.. He doesnt even have 1 vote... sheesh.

I mentioned this before, but I would have voted for Special K even before last week. Since it's way too early to guage what he can do, why put him on the poll? Polls are opinions, no one is right or wrong, besides which the true answer of which player turns out to be the best of the bunch won't be known for years.

I am really pleased to see all of the team rookies (meaning the first year kings) playing abilities, martin, barnes and evans. Watching the preseason when doug was hurt and seeing martin play i thought that he could very well be a future star and that he had a lot of potential, then doug came back and played very energetic which reduced martin's mins, but there was never any doubt in my mind the guy could play. I'm really happy that he is playing so good actually. But my vote for this poll went to maurice evans...i think that this guy is going to be amazing, and i really think that we need to keep a hold on this guy, he hustles, plays excellent d (which we of course need), and crashes the boards all the time (which we also really need). I not saying that this guy is going to be the next jordan, but man i can see him scoring very easily in the future. The guy is just so damn athletic, not to mention....that man can jump! No joke, springs on his feet or somethin. Maybe bobby gettin hurt was some sort of blessing in disguise?

I think there's a definite cap on how high Evans can go, because he doesn't really create his own offense, its created for him. He's a finisher, not a creator.

But what a finisher! Not only athleticism, but apparently the difference between him now and when he came out of college is that he's really worked on his shot and can hit the open ones now. He would be less effective on a lot of teams where he might be asked to generate his own offense, but with all of our passers, he can be highly efficient for us. There's been a certain amount of irony to us having both the best passers, and worst finishers in the league. Peja's a pure finisher himself, but he finishes from the 3pt line, not well at all around the hoop. Evans adds a dimension we've been lacking big time -- hit him with the good pass anywhere remotely around the basket, and instant hoop (and instant assist for the passer).
