Kevin Martin and Maurice Evans' past few performances got me thinking about past young Kings players that we as fans have gotten absolutely giddy over, sometimes way to premature.

Which one of these past or current young players do you think has the brighter future in the NBA. This is based strictly on talent and upside not popularity.

Special K, because, while he is not quite an athletic freak like Gerald, he has an infinitely more well rounded game, and is willing to put in the extra work to continue to improve.

I say Hedo Turkoglu, because in my view he has more all around skills that are just now starting to fully develop. On top of that, the dude has an NBA body that I think will just get harder as the years progress. We will all regret the day we let him go.

Maybe I misunderstood the question, I thought you asked about brighter future. Hedo, IMO, is pretty close to what he will be, at this point.

I would actually liked to have vote for both Evans AND Martin. I think they both have very bright futures.

Hedo IMHO is always going to be about 3 cents shy of a dollar. He's gonna come close to being great but he'll never quite make it...

I think Turkoglu has the best chance of becoming better than just another player. Boy he looked great again on the ESPN Classic replay of 2001 Game 4 against LA. I haven't seen him play much since he left the Kings, but its too bad that it sounds like he hasn't yet fulfilled the promise of those times.

What is it that everybody has seen of Martin to you think he will be the best player on this list? Just asking, because we as Kings Fans we have this what have you done for me lately perspective. And I gurantee that if this question was asked last week, Evans would be on top.

What we've seen of Martin recently is apparently what made Petrie choose him. It's what made him a star in high school and college... and I think it's the tip of the iceberg. This is a special young man, by all reports.

:D

Right now Hedo and J-W are in the lead... I think Special K passes them both... Not so sure about Evans.

Aren't we getting way ahead of ourselves on Special K? We basically have seen him play two games. I will say that his poise is way above what a normal rookie would be. If he was what we all think he can be, why is it that Adelman has not played him more?

Not to put evans down as I think he is going to be great for us, but I don't think he can be considered a young player at 26 years of age.

Until Bobby was injured, there weren't really enough minutes for the players Adelman preferred to play. Since Bobby was injured, however, Adelman had to go further to the bench and the result has been that BOTH Mo Evans and Kevin Martin have had a legitimate chance in something other than garbage time to show what they're made of.

Um, because Adelman never plays rookies unless he has to?

I didn't vote for him because of the last two games. I've been exceedingly high on this kid since BEFORE the Kings drafted him. OK, so it was only like 2 weeks before, but still;)

Purple Reign - You asked for people's thoughts. ;)

It may be we are ahead of ourselves with Special K (although I don't think so), but isn't it nice to have a couple of guys on the bench who can come in and get us excited like this?

To early to judge Martin and Evans but I like what I see so far.

Out of the ones left I would have to say J-Will

So, when Bobby comes back, and if martin continues to progress, does that mean Bobby's minutes decrease? Does Bobby Jackson become a 12-18 minute guy instead of a 18-24, 28, 30 minute guy in lieu of a phenom. Because in my view, it is going to take phenomenal play from Martin to cut into Jackson's minutes. Just for conversation purposes.

I think Martin will cut into Christies minutes.

So, was your poll just for this year? You have to keep in mind that Doug is nearing the end of his career, starting to be slowed by injuries, there are minutes available in the near future

Now, don't get me wrong because I love the Kings, but if Kevin had been drafted somewhere else, he would have been seeing regular playing time all along.
I can see Adelman's approach in that he goes with what's proven, but he has talent on the bench that can only get better the more they play in game situations. They're not going to improve by sitting on their hands and watching everyone else.

Larry Brown probably would not have played him.

I agree that it's too early to tell yet (from my perspective anyway), but if I had a single afternoon to make that decision (which is admittedly what most of us are doing)... I would be inclined to say Kevin Martin as well.

I haven't seen enough to really know anything, but what I did see didn't strike me as chance performances. I saw great speed, good solid shots, and enormous confidence... all while playing on a court against one of the most intimidating teams in the NBA. Ok... maybe he had a bit of luck on his side when that passed didn't hit Barry's knee... but it would have been beautiful work even if Barry weren't standing there.

I can't help but feel like he's just getting started. He just strikes me as a player hungry not just to play, but to learn and improve… looking to himself instead of excuses. I’m still not sure what to make of him, but he's sure got my attention.

Which Current or Former Young Kings Player Will Turn Out to Be the Better Player?

I dont think Damon Jones should be on that list. He is 28-29 and pretty much is developed into the type of player he is, a spot of 3 point shooter who can set up his teammates.

and shouldn't Bibby be on this list if Darius and Evans are on it? They are the same age.
