Where's Beno and what's he doing? (merged)

Does anyone know what Beno's been up to this summer? Is he chillin' at home or working hard at the gym?

I hope that if we draft a good young point guard it motivates Beno to do better. I would like to see Beno succeed and every team can use two good point guards.

Where's Beno and what's he doing? (split from Rubio thread)

On the Beno front, I have a question. We know Greene is working out in Sacramento. It appears both Thompson and Greene will be in the summer league. They both made appearances in the sacramento summer league. We know Martin is working out, and who know's, he just might make an apppearance in the sacramento summer league. He has before. We know that Spencer is going to school, but should shortly return to sacramento to start working out. So my question is: Just where the hell is Beno? You remember! The starting point guard for our team last year. The guy that had a less than stellar season. The guy that has more to lose this coming season and the most to prove.

Is he busting his butt somewhere to prove to us and the team that last season was a fluke. Or is he sitting on a riviera somewhere in europe sucking on a beer and admiring his increased girth. I guess we'll find out when training camp opens. I would just like to know.

Yeah, I have been wondering the same thing about Beno. We haven't heard anything about him or from him since the end of the season. We all know he had a terrible year, but I would feel better about his contract and the fact he is a member of this team if he came out and said he was going to work his a** off this summer.

This is one of my knocks on Beno, he never takes responsibility. He should have publicly stated that he didn't have the success last season that he wanted or expected, and that he will work hard all summer to prove he is worth his contract. If he actually see's himself as a starting pg in this league, or is committed to this organization, he should not have just dissapeared after the season. I would like to see beno here all summer putting in hard work and assuring the kings that last year was a fluke and he has every intent on being this teams starting pg going forward. Now, I don't want Beno to be our pg, and I think most will agree with me on that, but I would have much more respect for the guy as a pro and as a player if that was his attitude. I'm afraid that Beno is just really comfortable with his contract and doesn't feel that he needs to prove anything, which is a big problem since the kings are paying that contract.

He's going to play for his national team (Slovenia) at Euro Championship in beginnig of September which takes place in Poland. All our best players will gather to play in this tournament (excpet Nesterovic), so we are really looking forward to it beacuse our aim is a medal and we are certainly capable of getting it. Beno has already confirmed his presence, so he'll be working hard during summer, I believe.

Spencer is back. JT said on Twitter that he was working out with Spencer a couple of days ago.

Is Beno is the next Kenny Thomas? sitting on the bench for the rest of his career and collecting paychecks until his contract runs out?! sigh

Not to that extent i dont bealive, I remember the guy who attacked the basket at 100mph and who had a crazy spin move to create space for his jumper, funny thing is that was not the long ago. Draft night should light a fire under his butt. (or send it packing )

I agree with upinsmoke. I also think Westphal ... and Mario Elie ... might actually be able to motivate Udrih more in the coming season. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on him quite yet.

Wasn't Elie at the Spurs during Beno's early years there? That would be a big help for him. I too would like to see a rejuvenated Beno pushed by a really good rookie PG. :D Wouldn't we all?

Unfortunatly Beno has been reading the forums at KingsFans.com and has become depressed. Not at the negative comments regarding him, More that he is a Kings fan and he now realizes the Kings suck at the PG position.

Truthfully
I have not given up on Beno either. But the man needs to find his inner fire and pride and make sure he has no repeat of last season

He better at least try this season.

I'd be pissed off, if he just tried his butt off 2 seasons ago just so he can get $$$, and now that he has it he'd be lazy and all.

But I have all the confidence in Paul Westphal and Co. to make Beno into at least a decent PG for the Kings.

Beno has the skill to be a good player, weve all seen it. hopefully the draft and new coaches can ignite him. He would make a great backup PG.

Beno's problem is he doesn't play hard every game and his heart is not in it most of the time. He only plays hard when we play high profile teams.

If we played the lakers 82 times a yr, Beno would be an all star.

Popovich couldn't get Beno to work hard and some folks think Westphal or Elie will? At this point I think only Beno can change Beno. I'm not optimistic.

Statistically, Beno was pretty much the same player last year as he was the year before. He just didn't shoot 3's as well, which cost him a little off his scoring average. I didn't watch a lot of Kings games, but that's what the numbers look like to me. I'd guess the main problem is Kingsfans perception of him going from a mid-season free agent off the street exceeding expectations, to a guy in the first year of a 5y 30M contract. He's basically the same guy, we're just paying him more.

And since we are paying Beno more I expect a whole lot more from him... at least from the effort deparment.

Where's Beno? Been busy -- Beno is The Most Interesting PG in the World:

Beno's problem was he kept blaming his teammates rather taking the responsibility. I read several article during last season that he would say "if my teammates would be open, I can pass them the ball"...or something like that. I feel he is getting paid way too much and should be a backup point guard at best.

Statistically he may have been similar, but watching him on the court there was an obvious difference. He didn't play as aggressively last season. He didn't attack the basket nearly as much, and his passive play had an affect on the rest of the team. You could see a noticeable change in the whole team when Bobby came into the game with his energetic aggressvie play.

The problem was the fact that he is nothing more then a backup and we payed him as if he was going to be our starter for years to come. He is not a starter... nowhere near it.

Yet the man who gave him the contract takes no heat for it??? I'm listening to our local radio station today and everyone says trust Petrie with the pick! Hello?? We just gave a point guard 6 million bucks per year a year ago and now we have to draft a point guard? Am I missing something?

6 Million is not a price for a starting point guard. You double or triple this and you get the salaries of real starting and star point guards.

Beno is a quality PG especially if he's on the offensive attack mode. He's got killer spin and cross-over moves. We're simply in disarray last season with all the injuries, trades and coaching changes.

This is Beno's first year of his contract, and it is a noticeable trend in the NBA that most player dip their production on the first year after signing a contract, see Rashard Lewis, Arenas, Baron Davis, Brand, etc. Give the kid some space to learn his mistakes and prove himself.
