I think you are forgetting the Kings picked up their play considerably when Artest joined the team. If they had played like that all year, they would have been the 2 seed in the West.

The Suns are the favorite. However, we could easily be #2 and the Suns could easily have problems this year. Amare is coming off of a major injury, he could reinjure himself, and Nash is aging and has had injury problems in the past. And while they probably won't trade Marion without giving their current core another shot, they could easily trade Barbosa since they probably can't afford to give him an extension along with Amare and Diaw.

Just something to think about.

It depends on what we continue to do this offseason... If we get another PF/C that can play defense/rebound/block shots then the sky's the limit IMO. If the team stays as it is now, I'd say 5-8.

With the loss of Bonzi, I would say anywhere from 5-8 and possibly not making the playoffs altogether. Unless we make some moves to address our needs (rebounding, shot blocking and paint clogging) we could be back to square one. Our rebounding will once again be atrocious with the loss of Bonzi. We are in desperate need of a rebounder and shotblocker....ever moreso than ever. But obviously we are not done yet, I hope.

I believe that even with the changes in the seeding system, the division winners are still going to be 3 of the top 4 seeds, just now with one of them possibly 4th if the best at large team has the better record. (could use a confirmation though -- could be wrong)

Hence unless we win more than the Mavs/Spurs, #5 would be the top seed.

I don't think we'd be in the lottery with the team we got now. But the off-season is far from over, and Petrie's talked about trades.

Phoenix is still there. Who knows, could be the year Nash gets old, but they were in the mid-50s in wins last year, and look to have gotten stronger in the offseason (Banks, return of Amare). We'll need to really pull off a heck of a big man to get us up into the high 50's with a chance to pass them.

But the bottom 4 seeds are open as always. Lot of teams with shots there, including us. Just too early to really even guess.

I think so too. Right now this looks like about a 47 win team to me. We're so deep into the summer I think that people are forgetting you need to win about 55 games to get one of those top 4 seeds.

I agree. You can bend the stats any way you want, but the Kings were an 8 last year and out in the first round. That's with Bonzi playing off his *** and with a 700 win coach on the bench.

Bonzi is now gone for nothing.

Adleman is gone.

I love Artest as much as the next guy, but he's likely due for some antics - maybe we'll be lucky and he'll play all the games, maybe not.

What is the source of optimism here? Check out the roster and you will see it is made up of prospects. Bibby, Martin, Artest, Thomas, Miller, SAR is a decent (not great) 6. Beyond that we are rolling the dice with SCRUBS.

I'm hoping for a fun-to-watch scrappy squad that works hard... and hopefully we spend our lottery pick wisely next year.

think we'll be in the fight for the bottom 2-3 seeds. May or may not get it...whatever. Keep Bonzi and add front court defense and who knows how tough we would have been.

My concern now with the departure of Bonzi is that we are Ron + mediocre non leader types. Not only are we not contending, but could be one of those boring years to watch Kings bball.
