What!?!? Rick Adelman might join the Denver Nuggets next season?

I realize that they led the league in FG% defense and that they had improved, but they were by no means a very good defensive club...statistics do not always tell the whole story and as far as me stating something four times VF21...so have you and others stated the same arguments for RA many many times. We could debate this all week and in the end there is no way to prove that one person is right more than the other...that is the great thing about sports and chat rooms like this one.

And now I am disturbed because we are really off into la-la land. Its little wonder that you have come to the conclusions you have come to if you truly believe that statement -- its simply factually incorrect.

In 2002-2003 the Kings:

#1 in the league in Opponent FG%, THE defensive statistic (since it ignores the pace a team plays at). Teams shot .420 against us (for comparison this year the Spurs are leading the league holding teams to .416).
#1 in the league in Opponent 3pt%
#2 in the league in Defensive Efficiency
#2 in the league in steals

If that's not a very good defensive ballclub there is no such thing.

And why was it such a good defensive ball club? Keon Clark. Jim Jackson, Hedo Turkoglu. Scot Pollard. Gerald Wallace. Younger/healthier versions of Chris Webber (still a shotblocker), Doug Christie (still 2+ steals a game), Bobby Jackson. Even Vlade was still far more defensive presence than Brad is today. It wasn't magic. And it wasn't because the coach suddenly learned how to coach defense and forgot just as soon. Where are all those guys now?

And all this has what to do with a Denver rumor about Adelman next year?

The original thought was interesting, he was leveling off, becoming stagnant, had peaked, etc as contributing to even a remote thought that could become a possibility. Then we had the Jazz game and KMart popped up. Then we had the Spurs game and RA is a genius all over again.

In watching stats this year as a running average, the Kings are improved (since my first running average after 16 games in early December) in two defensive areas: rebounding (17th to 12th), steals (20th to 14th) and in 5 offensive categories:assists, turnovers, scoring, FG% and 3PT%.

Lets hope they are just slow starters and it keeps going like this.

You know who I would like to coach the Kings next year if Rick is gone, Jerry Sloan. I know the likely hood of that happening is next to impossible, but he would be the coach toughen the players up.

BTW it would be funny to see Ostertag and Sloan reunited.

Anyone want to take any bets on which team will win more games if that happens? Funny how these silly GMs, widely credited with being geniuses in any other setting, suddenly get stupid when it comes to Rick.

Yeah, there will be nothing quite as joyful to watch as another team in our conference just magically happening to start playing together, the offense flowing freely, the win total shooting up, just coincidentally as Rick arrives in town. But of course it won't be him. It will be the team. It was their time. They could have done it with Jasper the parapelegic monkey at the helm.

What do you think Kings' record would have been if RA was the Kings' coach one year earlier (before Vlade, Webb, Williams, Peja arrived)? The offense would have been flowing freely? The win total would have been shooting up?

What do you think our record would have been if Phil Jackson were the coach that year? Think we would have won a title??

No coach is anything without the players.

We would have done better with Rick than with Jordan -- been more organized, the team would not have quit. And yes the offense would have been better. But would we have been a playoff team? Nope. And not with PJ either. NO coach can turn chumps into champions. The only question is is he getting the most out of the guys he has.

.......Wait a minute. We win one of the hugest games of the season so far, and we get a couple Adelman haters? Let's not focus on RA's contract and "how bad his coaching tactics are.."

.......We still have a long season season for our guys and we shouldn't let articles like this make us scramble in search for an answer. It was noted as a possiblity-only because Rick is one of the notable coaches in the league that has a contract expiring this year. The article was written under the impression that the Maloof's won't sign him for years to come. But we have really no clue what the Maloofs are thinking right now.

.......PHIL JACKSON? If he was our coach, I think our team would be the next Lakers...The drama and hype would eventually build up and next think you know, the Kings will be fighting against themselves.

.......The lack of defense is not Rick's fault. Can you blame him if Mike Bibby can't rebound 10 boards a game? No! Only the players can control themselves. Sure, Rick can focus on defense a little bit more, but it's mainly the player's job to improve.

.......Ok, I think I'm done....:D

GO KINGS!

What makes you think Adelman would have done a better job than Jordan did with that team? Does he have a proven record of winning with a team with bunch of no-talents? I thought Adelman had the Warriors for a couple years without any improvements on their record or the style of play. I am not talking about turning chumps into champions but improving a crappy team at least to a mediocre level, like Larry Brown did with every crappy team that he ever coached.
And, what's up with some of you guys here (like Bricklayer, VF21) being so damn over sensitive about any criticizm about Adelman?

We are a message board and have very spirited debates. We enjoy those debates, even with the members we most strongly disagree with. (Some of the exchanges I've enjoyed the most have been with a certain member with whom I disagree at virtually every single turn.) We're able to do that because we keep our comments about the posts and not the posters. You should do the same.

If you can't stand the heat, perhaps you should remove yourself from the kitchen...

Actually the Warriors team DID get better under Adelman. And got worse after he left. A familiar pattern:

94-95 (Nelson/Lanier) 26-56
95-96 (Adelman) 36-46
96-97 (Adelman) 30-52
97-98 (Carlesimo) 19-63

If you are the formerly Vladefan21, I have seen so many comments from you about the "posters" not necessarily about their posts, just because they criticized Adelman even though they may have valid points sometimes. I don't mean you insult them or use unkind words. I just got the feeling that you just don't like people to criticize Adelman.

You got the wrong feeling.
