What if Petrie does nothing?

That is a prospect none of us has considered. Is he viewing the current situation as if it can work itself out with players on hand? That KT and Kevin and, and.... the bench (urp) will get together on the same page?

The real unknown is what the Maloofs might be pushing to do. Remember just before they became majority owners the two brothers flew to Arkansas to get Corliss to resign and got in trouble with the majority owners. But it was the right thing to do team wise, not right thing to do protocol wise. Or might they exert the power they have for the first time?

Petrie HAS to be up to something. But so far not a peep, even less than previous years when he actually made some moves. Has he maybe run the course in being the main Chef in whipping up the 5x50 soup of recent years? But being quiet only hurts us fans

If geoff isn't up to something imma be real mad. I mean seriously, it is PAINFUL to watch the current group of starters get layup after layup dropped on them, to miss shots, kill ball movement, etc.

I've considered GP not making any moves and waiting for this team to "jell" but it's obvious to all that that isn't going to happen. Even if we're all well and playing to our potential the fact remains our potential leaves us short with the best we could achieve is a 7-8 seeding and first round fodder. GP and the Maloofs, especially, are far too competitive to remain static. And, yes, it's disappointing not to hear in the blogosphere something about Sacramento pursuing some top player but in the long run it's better for all to keep one's poker face on. Right now, with the RArtest sweepstakes going on, nothing major will happen until his situation shakes out. And if we've made the decision that he's not worth the effort then GP, like all the other GM's in the league, will have to wait to see what becomes available.

Do You mean till the end of the season ?

Not probable but not impossible either.

If that happenes - he will forced to do something in the offseason simply because of 2 expiring player contracts and expiring coach contract.

I can't see him keeping the exact same team other than a draft pick next season, and excluding let-gos to Hart/Sampson.

I expect at least two moves.

The only thing that would prevent Petrie from doing anything is if he couldn't pull off a deal that in his opinion would better the team, which is totally different than whether or not he's trying to do something. I'm positive that he's trying to do something. At the beginning of the season he tried trading KT for Desmond Mason and I'm sure he's still trying.

Yep. Also tried to get Lorenzen Wright from Memphis with Bonzi, but Memphis said "nay".

Well, that would be...interesting. On any number of levels.

More than a little unfair to the fans as well without some sort of serious explanation. Mentioned before that being tight lipped and slow moving might be a good set of traits for a GM of an elite team -- keep him from rocking the boat or messing up a good thing. But that same set of traits may not serve nearly as well when a team is hurting and something needs to be done. Less still if its coupled with nepotism, blind adherence to a system, unwillingness to admit mistakes, or anything else other than a simple dedication to winning.

Personally I believe that this current team was supposed to win, and a lot. I cannot believe that the "Kings as contenders" idiocy coming out of the mouths of the Maloofs could possibly have originated if anyone in the front office foresaw the current mess. That's moderately alarming actually. And it appears to be the latest in a string of miscalculations from our much lauded GM. That throws a whole load of questions out there as we finish off our death spiral.

If he doesn't do anything, then I'll drive, walk, run, fly, take a bus(whatever I have to do) all the way up to sacto and then smack the ****!!!! out of him....

I dont see us even making the 7th or 8th seed in the Western Conf., beings that I see those seeded teams winning almost 45 games, not gonna happen, at least with this current group of Kings. One key move, one key FA pick up, and who knows, but right now...thats gonna be a big negative on us even thinking about making the playoffs.

If he does nothing, I will resign my position as Goodwill Ambassador and slit my wrists. It would be the end of the world.

Well, of course not. I will cheer for the Kings the same as I have since 1985. Let's face it, I have rooted for a lot worse Kings teams.

As have I, 6th;) Remember the Ben Gillery years??

I'll still be cheering for my team, BUT if he does not do SOMETHING, I will not enjoy the play-offs as much because I am not sure we will be there.

we wont be in the playoffs if he does nothing...hell, its coming up on the 'is it too late to make a move for the better for a playoff run' time. we'll see. the next few weeks should be interesting.

I saw a glimmer in Peja. He seemed like he really wanted to be there tonight. He was enjoying himself tonight even though he had 18 and not 24. If only we saw that all the time.

Then again, the marshmallow man was visiblly in pain the last few possesssions and walking funny. He was grabbing at his right hamstring. It was getting slightly strained towards the end of the game.

BUT he stayed in the game and hit two game sealing FTs at the end.

I have been as critical of Peja as anyone on this board, but you cannot fault his performance tonight. He was involved, he was animated and he was clearly out there to play, not just to observe. He didn't phone in anything.

That is the Peja I wish we could see more of...

Ok Peja's hammy wasn't getting strained. He said the disc is pushing on nerves. It's a different thing everyday he said. Tonight it happened to be making his leg stiff.

Am I the only one who is more than just a little concerned about the habitual problems Peja has had with his back for the past couple of years?

No, you aren't. If the disc is becoming a chronic problem, Peja may have surgery in his future. A disc pressing on nerves can be quite painful and crippling. I hope surgery won't be necessary. I wouldn't wish back problems on anybody. (Well maybe a few people. :p )

can't really be fixed - just like TMac. I have "disk" problems myself and You never know when they will come. One I just bend over to pick something up and could not get up for a week. The pain goes from Your back into the legs. Worst part - beside the pain - the fear of knowing that it can come back at any time triggered by even slightest "wrong" move

Fortunately, I've never had the disc kind of problem. My brother did, though. Three weeks in the hospital having conservative therapy didn't work. Had to have surgery. I did have a huge abcess once that pressed on the sciatic nerve (leg). Excrutiating. I could not stand or sit up. It was awful.

Peja's trade value (and this all goes on Geoff who has rather blatantly ****ed up the situation):

I too have been one of the die hard Peja supporters. But reality is reality and he is not Peja of even last year. He IS playing hurt so give him that credit. He DID get 13 rebs tonight.

BUT............. Peja's trade value is just past peak and as much as he is/was Petrie's favorite sun on the Kings, and deservedly so until recently, time has come to cut our losses and get him to Chicago somehow. To do that GP will have to work a 3 team deal 'cause other than Luol they likely don't have anyone who they would part with how would be immediate help.

But until Artest deal is done I think everything else trade wise in the NBA is held up. Once he goes to Warriors, or where ever, then GP has to do something. Maybe KT is one to go as he has value on a number of teams. Peja has to go become a perimeter guy who can put up 15-24 any night cause someone else on that team gets double teams all the time.

My fire is behind Skinner now and for several months. With no Bonzi until end of February and no SAR until likely early March, Kings can't last. I think it is ALL in GP's lap right now. Cause if not, the Maloofs may step in.

Beautifully diagramed Brick;) Couldnt have done that any better myself. Could we even get a guy like (not saying I'd want these guys, just throwing out names for value-sake barometer)Raja Bell for Peja at this point?? James Jones?? Arvyadis Majik?? Probably not.

You are seriously deluded if you think that Peja is not a bigger fish in the sea than players you mentioned.

We can still get something decent for Pedja, we just can't get a superstar and we never really could

This is something I've been seriously thinking/worrying about lately. Seeing Peja walk free in the off-season, sticking with a coach who's stubborn faults are catching up to him, being unable to unload moderate high priced bench players for young talent...

At this point win/losses matter less than seeing somebody in this orginization showing they have some plan of where this team is going other than Las Vegas.

Who knows...but if Geoff doesnt do anything in the next 5 months, obviously, we get bupkis for Peja.
