I seriously think we need him to mentor Evans. I think Evans can learn so much having him around. If Evans can model his game after Gary; we would be looking at a superstar.

Could not hope for a better mentor. Tyreke can reach that level if he is guided in that direction and who better to do it than the glove himself.

He's done it occasionally, but he doesn't seem natural at it like Payton. But then again, I can't remember any PG ever had a good postup game early in their career. Big PGs like Payton and Billups all seem to have develops this aspect of their game later on.

Payton actually excelled at it right out of college. I don't know if you remember they had a rookie one-on-one competition that Lionel Simmons and Payton competed in. I think I remember thier matchup might have even been the final round. Anyway, Payton beat the L-Train by continually posting him up. And I am definately showing my age here.

Perhaps defensively and help with the post game. Reke's already much better off the dribble than Gary ever was though, and I have no interest in Reke learning to chuck 300 3pts a year at 30%.

But if Reke can become as good a defender and a post up guard as The Glove was then WATCH OUT!
It can't hurt to learn that from one of the all time greats at those aspects of the game, at that position!

Not disputing rookie competition with L Train at all. But in term of on court play, Payton really didn't start excelling until about year 3 or 4. He was fairly raw in the beginning.

Props to Tyreke last night, he played a great game. He still had his moments of selfishness and "what was he thinking?" plays, but overall, he undoubtedly played a huge role in carrying the Kings to a victory.
With that said, it was just one game. He's had one "great" game now and one "good" game... the rest were still painful to watch.
However, I recognize that every other player on the Kings up to this point in the season hasn't looked too hot either. As a team, it's been "ugly."
But hopefully each player - including Tyreke - can adjust their game, drop the negatives, and do more the positives. The potential is there for so many of the players to be great, but there is a LOT of work that needs to be done for that potential to be reached.

While I think Payton would seem ideal, realistically we already have a defensive minded guy who in my mind should be another one of our assistant coaches in Doug Christie. Just sayin...
