Tyson Chandler?

I've always liked Chandler. I'd like to see us pick him up if Cousins doesn't fall to us. But he's gonna come with a hefty price tag so it depends on if we think we can compete in the next few years

The problem with Tyson is his injury history. The price he will l ikely want to come at is really just too high of a price tag for us to want to pay for someone with his history.. I say no due to these reasons.. Now if he wants to play for $5m a year, sure.. Worth the risk.. but at the likely $9-12m a year he'll probably want... no thanks

I know that stats don't tell the whole story with a player. But when approaching how much value a players has they have to be considered. I believe that Chandler will be 28 years old in oct. And that certainlly wouldn't be considered old if it wern't for all his injuries. He's averaged playing in 65 games a year for his career. His career averages are 8.1 PPG, 8.8 RPG, and 1.4 BPG. Those stats wouldn't be bad for a guy coming off the bench. But they're not the kind of stats I look for in a starting center. And his stats for the last couple of years have actually been less than that.

To my mind the only value he would have is as defensive center coming off the bench. That way you can limit his minutes and perhaps keep him healthy. Following that line of thinking, I don't think you pay him 8 or 9 mil a year. I might offer him a three year contract starting at around 4 mil the first year. Thats it, take or leave it. He's too big a risk to offer anything bigger.

Like Bajaden says, I dont sign him to be my starting Center. Too much risk, and honestly the reward wouldnt be that great. He is a very good defender, but even that is getting worse with the leg injuries.

He was a very good center with Chris Paul, without him I dont know.

In some instances like Grant Hill, Camby, and McDyess I think being injury prone actually extended their careers because their knees weren't degenerated from all the minutes. So its possible Chandler could be a good player for a long time under the same idea if he's gotten past the unlucky injury bug.

Per 36, Chandler has averaged 10.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks for his career. And he's a really tough defender.

I really like him, and think he's just been hit with some tough breaks so far in his career. However, I think you're right there's just no way to justify a big money contract to a guy with that kind of injury history and production. Frankly, I think he's high if he thinks he's getting anywhere near the 12.75M his contract is on the books for next year.

I just wish his injury plagued years were a little futher away from the present. Unfortunately its been his last two years. I really like him and there's no doubt a healthy Chandler would be a great addition. Now if God would just come down and give me a guarantee, then I'd jump all over him. I'll let you know if that happens..:D

A healthy Chandler? Yes, he's a good fit.

But "Healthy Chandler" is an oxymoron.

Exactly.

I love Chandler's game and think that he would a great fit for the Kings.

If we could get him cheap then i think that would be awesome. The problem is, he is probably expecting a decent amount of money.

He is getting paid 12.75M next year. I doubt he would take what we would want to offer him.

I've been for bringing Tyson to the Kings for a few seasons now, however, I'm liking adding DeMarcus Cousin's more (if possible). Tyson would add the rebounding, shot blocking, and defensive length that the Kings are sorely lacking. Additionally, he still has mobility in the open court to allow the Kings to be a more up-tempo, offensively oriented team. He'd be a great consolation prize to Cousins (or Bosh ;)).

You're right. I'd love to take the chance on him if he had like 3 years 24M on his contract and Charlotte would take back Nocioni's crappy contract for him just because its cheaper. That'd be a risk play I would endorse heartily.

Unfortunately going rates on those guys are still $8mil a year. See Varejao, Anderson. Scary, but I guess an option ot Brendan Haywood for a team in the market.

He's be crazy to walk away from that much money though with his stock down.

Yeah, I just don't see him walking away from that much money. I think it would be a huge risk on his part. If I were going to throw money at someone for defense, it would probably be Haywood. He can't run the floor like Chandler, but he's more likely to be on the floor. Gotta count for something..

True, all comes down to how happy he is in Charlotte really.

It will be interesting if he does opt to stay in with himself and Dalembert coming off contract after next season i wonder if we'd be interested in either at that time.

I'd probably throw it at Chandler -- younger, and I think a bigger impact defender whatever the numbers say. Haywood just never seems to get any results for his team. I also don't trust him as a person -- never forgot he used to get in brawls with his own teammate (Etan Thomas) years ago.

In any case, only the sort of signing I make if I truly think that I've put together a playoff team for next year and am looking to firm up that middle and get serious.

All things being equal, and includes the money, I'd always take Chandler over Haywood. Just a better player and as you stated, younger. I'm just having a hard time getting past that injury thing. But I guess you never know. He could be healthy for the rest of his career. The question is, do you want to bet on it.

As an aside, I've always wondered why no one ever says that Etan Thomas used to get into brawls with Haywood, instead of the other way around. Anyway, apparently there's some merit to the rumors..

I'd consider a 1yr 12m offer if there weren't better 2010 uses of the money. We'd still be open for 2011, he'd get a chance to prove himself for a new contract in 2011 while not taking a paycut. I guess the point of this would be if he wanted out of Charlotte.

It's easy for me to spend the owner's money though.

I definitely wouldn't give him more than a 2yr contract unless the yearly average was less than 7m.
