Sorry for the delay

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas (2006)
Tcr6vcov11.jpg

Terrorists in Las Vegas? OH NOES. We have to send in the troops. In this case a team of highly trained special ops commandos. Who knew blowing up Vegas could be this much fun?

haha, not that I haven't contributed to this, but who wants to put something down on this draft finishing its 20 rounds after the ipod draft finishes 30?

I wouldn't be shocked if GGG's draft finishes ahead of this one

C'mon guys, let's keep this moving! It has been almost 2 weeks since I picked (8/31). 2 WEEKS. What's taking so long for folks to check in and see when their turn is up???? Holy ****balls, this is annoying.

Continuing my dive into the 'sports' world.

WWF No Mercy --- N64 --- (2000)

And again, the best game from the genre remains in the past. This one had little things that kept me coming back for more. The gameplay remains the best for any wrestling game I have ever played. Unlike todays wrestling games where EVERY single move gets countered this one was easy to play. In an enjoyable aspect, not being too easy. Another part that made me a HUGE fan was the fact you could edit wrestlers appearances to keep up with the ever changing ways of the wrestling world...In todays games you can't do that and in two weeks the game is out of date when Wrestler X changes his gimmick to something 100% different.

My next pick is the game that I'm currently playing, and with which I've absolutely fallen in love.

Okami -- Wii (2008) -- This is easily one of the most unique games I've ever played, in terms of story, gameplay, and design. You play as Amaterasu, a Shinto sun goddess who has taken the form of a white wolf and must save several villages in rural Japan (not sure the era -- classical, but unspecified) from a 100-year-old curse. In addition to a nice range of fairly standard melee weapons and attacks used for fighting, Amaterasu also has control of the "celestial brush" techniques, which are used for fighting, puzzle solving, and revealing hidden paths/items. When using the celestial brush, the screen actually becomes a writing surface and you control a calligraphy brush -- a feature that was functional on the original PS2 release, but is wonderfully intuitive and fun with the Wiimote. The thing that originally attracted me to this game, however, was it's style. The easiest way to describe the graphic style is cell-shaded Japanese wood block, but that doesn't quite do it justice. And since the curse in this game is marked by a hovering darkness and the death of surrounding plant life, every major battle/puzzle is followed by an "oooooooh, pretty" moment in which the immediate surrounding area just erupts into ponds and flowers and cherry blossoms. I highly recommend this one to anyone who hasn't given it a shot yet.

OK, my two picks:

Defender - arcade (1980) - Played this in the arcade a few times and then my cousin got it on his Atari 2600 and I played the heck out of it -loved this game.

Mario Brothers - arcade (1983) - This is the game my sister and I would pour massive amounts of quarters into whenever we went to an arcade at the same time. Lots of fun tipping over baddies and grabbing gold coins.

Well, Jespher, get ready for another one you've likely never heard of:

psychonautsvl2.jpg

Psychonauts -- PS2 (2005) -- Another completely cracked platformer that I just loved. You play as Raz, short for Razputin, a young psychic who escaped the circus to sneak into a secret summer camp for other young psychics. Shortly after you arrive, you discover that someone is stealing the other campers' brains as part of their evil plot. The area of the summer camp itself has a lot of puzzles and collecting missions, but functions largely as somewhat of a home base -- you'll interact with other characters here to get more clues/information and navigate to get to the various worlds, but the bulk of the gameplay takes place within the minds of campers, counselors, and the inmates of a nearby asylum. This is where the game really gets fun. And amazing looking. The mind of the camp's Army drill sargent is a complex obstacle course with landmines and battle tanks. The "Milkman," a character within the game who's got a thing for conspiracy theories, has a mind that is series of twisting suburban streets through which you're constantly followed and harassed by mysterious black vans and government officials. And when you enter the mind of Fred Bonaparte, a ridiculously tall descendant of Napoleon's, the entire level takes place on an elaborately staged strategic board game on which, in addition to normal platforming, you've got to convince the peasant gamepieces to stage an uprising and help Fred finally conquer the game he's been playing with Napoleon/his own inferiority complex. One thing that will be great about having this on my island is the huge amount of stuff there is to do in the game -- the Bonaparte level alone took me over three hours. The gameplay is wonderful, as normal platforming is supplemented by various psychic abilities picked up throughout the course of the game (telekinesis, levitation, invisibility, etc.). It is extremely clever; when in the brain levels, you can unlock new features by collecting "figments of imagination" (chalk drawings that hover throughout the level), you can help clear emotional baggage (by finding hidden tags and matching them with suitcases hidden within the level), and vacuuming up mental cobwebs will give you access to secret areas and repressed bits of information. It's also really funny, which is a nice change since video game humor so often misses the mark completely. And, with a visual style that's similar to Tim Burton's stop-motion films, both in character design and in the feel of the graphics (textures and sense of mass almost resemble claymation, rather than computer graphics), it's amazing to look at.

The only game on the Wii that ever made me touch the system after an ill-advised purchase.

Wii Sports --- Wii --- (2006)

The only Wii game I have ever really loved. The tennis was enough to keep me playing until my wrist was to sore to go on. Add in a fun baseball game, decent bowling game, fun golf game, a boxing game, and a bunch of mini-games to master it could keep one busy for quite some time.
And creating multiple Mii's on your island bound Wii could be your little buddies that help kill the dire loneliness!

Phantasy Star - Sega Master System - 1987

This my first game I bought. It was one of the first RPG games I ever played. i loved this game

Nice. I was actually hoping this would fall one more round to me.

It wouldn't have. I had Wii Sports slated as the first of my next two picks.

Probably a good thing I lost it, though. I'm already familiar with the evils of Wii elbow thanks to that game, and wouldn't necessarily want to spend an eternity with that pain.

The point-and-click adventures have limited replay value, but here's one I'd play again and again just for the laughs.

Day of the Tentacle - 1993 - PC

The follow up to the cult classic Maniac Mansion brings back the most useful and cowardly character, Bernard, and the entire Edison clan, including Purple and Green Tentacle, from the original, adds two new characters in Hoagie and Laverne, and presents the same wacky "find and use stuff" puzzles with a time travel twist.

Set in three different eras, the gang has to save the world from Purple Tentacle while sending items back and forth through time, including Revolutionary Era, Modern Times and a Future ruled by Tentacles.

And normally, it would be considered taboo to blatantly name the predecessor, but the original Maniac Mansion can be played in full through an in game computer. So technically, I'm getting two games in one with this pick, which is particularly good since I couldn't stand to have a Maniac Mansion game without Razor.

For my next pick:

The Secret of Monkey Island (1990) - PC

An adventure game which I loved playing during my childhood days. Actually, I would love to play it again but just hasn't got around doing it. This game has a pretty unique fighting play, you actually have to insult your opponent for you to have a successful strike. A game that is full of humor and just really fun to play. It has spawned numerous sequels but I choose the original.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who loved those games! The original wouldn't be my first choice, but it was great. I had forgotten about these games actually. I may have to make room on my list for one of them. Nice choice

Pick #14, and time for a sports game. If I'll be stuck on a desert island for the rest of my days, then I'll want to bring my favorite team with me. We all loved the 2001/2002 Kings, and feel cheated that they didn't win the championship that they earned. Maybe playing them on my island could help me make this right.

Pick #14: NBA 2K2 (Playstation 2) 2001

Just a heads up here. Like Kingzrool did in his drafts, I'm soon gonna be updating the draft board with links to the original posts, and it may be a slow process. I'm personally going back and adding links to reviews to the games I have chosen. It might help the voters decide who to vote for (with screenshots and details about each game). Anybody who wants to do the same can go back and edit their original posts.
