I'm starting to see the reverse of what Warhawk said, now they are developing the shooters for the HD consoles and are porting shooters to the PC.
Also I'm going to pimp the Wii remote nunchuck combo again for FPS. Medal of Honor Heroes 2, control settings on advanced and sensitive on high. Just about as good as mouse and keyboard, I'll take nunchuck over keyboard movement wsad. Mouse still has a slight edge on infrared aiming. Still waiting for the Conduit.
That is actually what I am talking about. Consoles, by their nature, have fixed hardware and are the "lowest common denominator". The year-old graphics card in my PC is more advanced than any current console's graphics capabilities. Any game designed for a console by definition cannot use all the abilities of my computer unless it is heavily modified prior to finishing the port. And most companies will not put forth that effort, they just port the games over with a minimum amount of effort.
As far as "HD" goes, you could make an HD version of Pong if you really wanted to, with the white boxes very crisp and clear against the black background.
Doesn't mean it looks as good as Crysis does on my monitor. I sit a lot closer to it than the TV and at 1680x1050 resolution on my 22" widescreen monitor, it looks awesome.
Having never played Medal of Honor Heroes 2, I can't comment on the controller use. I am very glad that things are improving with console controllers, but the Wiimote (in the games I have played, anyways) has nowhere near the response time or fine aiming control as the wired mouse on my PC.
In playing some Command & Conquer Generals last night, it is very easy to group units and assign group numbers with a Ctrl+# key and select those with one push of the assigned # key. I have no idea how you would do 10 groups of units (like I was using) using an X-box controller (for instance) and be able to quickly and easily on-the-fly be able to assign the group numbers, select the off-screen groups, or re-assign the group numbers. All while the game is playing in real time. It is easy with mice and keyboards. Not so much (I would guess) with gamepads.
I am not bashing consoles, as I have loved console gaming over the years. I just think they have some serious limitations
with certain game types that cannot be overcome until they introduce a controller set as comfortable, flexible, and responsive as a mouse and keyboard combination. Racing/flying games that are not sims are lots of fun with gamepads while sitting on your couch. I cannot stand trying to play FPS games on them, though.
