Tropical Island Music Artist Draft - FINIS

ATTENTION: BIG IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT/QUESTION

Alright, as for my big question, should be fairly obvious. I'll ask it via PM as well:

Do you guys want to extend this draft for another 5 picks?

We're in kind of a unique position here, not knowing when, or if, basketball id going to start again. I was hoping they would reach agreement last week. Now, who knows. We do still have Pretty Girls queued up to go after this one if necessary, and if we 100% knew they wren't playing until January it would be time to just start that up and go. I also have a basketball related project that I would like to recruit some of the top Kings historian types around here for, but without knowing when the season is going to start its hard to know if there will be time for any of that stuff or not.

So, noticed Henkel and NoBonus hint hinting about adding more rounds, and thought I would ask the question. I know a lot of people, myself included, have built our lists thinking there would be 20 rounds and picking accordingly, but that's why I wanted Rookie to stop before the final round, so we'd all be more or less in the same boat if people do want to extend. If not, no problem at all. I am ready with the playoffs and promise to get that right this time, and I don't want to extend things and have that become a burden to peeps or start to have people lose interest and time out and whatnot. So I'll leave it up to you. Would like to hear from most of you before making a decision if possible. Will need a pretty strong majority in order to push thigns out, because like I say I don't want people to start getting bored and drop out.
I'd be up for 25.

Yeah I'm down for it, it'd make the decision on my next pick (a little) easier. But I'm cool either way.

Isn't there another iPod draft scheduled too though? N I'd like to see another video game one added to the queue for next year or whenever. I'd even volunteer to be commish again if needed

Okay, that's 11 for, and I am cool with it myself, so that's 12, + Henkel and NoBonus inspired the question inthe first place, so that's 14 of 16 and sounds like the motion passes. Hopefuly it won't be a problem for our one eyed Pink stealing metalhead and...Jespher? Think he's the other one. And as a draft commissioner he'll say yes.

So, 25 it is. Rookie, feel free to kick off the 20th round at your leisure.

1 additional note, something I remembered while extending the draft lists -- in a serpentine draft you have to make it an even number of rounds in order for there to be the same number of rounds that the top of the order (#1, #2, #3 etc.) picks first and the bottom of the order (#16, #15 etc.) pick first. thus if I made it 25 rounds then the guys who pick #1, #2, #3 etc. would have an unfair advantage. So I made it 26 rounds (an unlovely number, but practical) instead. If that's a problem, we could also do 24, which is aprettier number but means fewer picks.

With this pick I draft, Marty Robbins.

If I had to pick the best male voice of all time, it very well might be Marty Robbins. He’s also one of my favorite musical artists in general. I absolutely love his western/gunfighter stuff and that’s a big reason why I’m picking him. He covered a lot of other styles in his career too, from pop, to jazz, to Hawiiann music, so there’s a lot of variety in his catalog.

His guitar player, Grady Martin, is also one of my favorite guitarists. He has a melodic, romantic style that complements Marty’s voice perfectly.

This pick has a great deal of nostalgic value for me, too. My dad is a huge Marty Robbins fan. He cried when Marty died. I heard a ton of Marty Robbins growing up and to this day his music still takes me back to that time.

PS. Can I just add the video of my number 1 overall choice? New song. If the music snobs would stop judging them on what they think other people judge them on, and just listen to their music (their early stuff was much, much better but current stuff still good), they may be pleasantly surprised. If Coldplay weren't mainstream they would be much more popular among the rockheads (even though they aren't rock).

What a song - beautiful. Coldplay never get old. Funnily enough I'm not too gone on songs like Viva la vida etc. which basically made them big in the US, but their older stuff is absolute gold. This song is reminiscent of that. I honestly don't get how anyone can dislike them, but obviously music is completely subjective, and I'm sure I'm about to get ripped apart (Pdx, I'm calling your name :p).

26. Or 25. Being near the end of the draft I would rather pick the extra pick period than lose it for "fairness" sake.

And you'll never sell me on Coldplay Dime. :) And I like plenty of mainstream popular stuff for what it is. Never heard a Coldplay song that makes me want to turn the volume up and sing along and hell, I'd do that with Roberta Black, as awful as she is.

Surely you meant REBECCA Black.

Or in my preferred version:

Six more picks and the Jefferson Airplane (which I moderately like) selection made me think that I lack 60s psych poppiness in my island, with that in mind i draft:

Love (1965-2005)

Favourite Album: Forever Changes (1967)
Sample Songs: Alone Again Or (from Forever Changes) // Seven & Seven Is (from Da Capo, 1967)

Love were second to no one when it came to pop songwriting in the sixties. I love both Forever Changes, which covers their softer side, and Da Capo, which has a garage edge that sets it apart from its contemporaries.
