I would say I find that cliché humorous, except I'm pretty sure it escaped from a Basketball for Dummies book somewhere and got set loose on the unsuspecting populace by some stats geek somewhere who shoots his FTs underhanded. Just very unfortunate. In basketball, not statball, but the sport of basketball, he who controls the middle controls the game the vast majority of the time.

I call your attention to what happened to the Golden State bombadiers when they attempted to outshoot the Clippers sans their own big guy in the middle. DeAndre Jordan decided to describe to them exactly how in fact 2pts > 3.

Well, the Warriors and the Clippers essentially take the same amount of threes--three pointers comprised 29.1% of each of the team's field goal attempts over the regular season. The Heat actually took slightly more (29.2% of their attempts were threes).

The Warriors did start jacking up threes at an increased rate during the playoffs (32.1% of their attempts were threes in the playoffs). But the Pacers took even more (32.6) and the Heat (30.3) and Clippers (30.1) were also in the top five of playoff teams of their percentages as well.
 
Jordan is a mobile big. Championship teams rarely if ever have two non-laterally inclined bigs.
 
This shouldn't even be a debate, if you can get Hibbert for it and jt you jump at it. He's the superior talent and one of very few true bigs in the league. I get the mobility angle, but they'd be just as mobile as the bigs in Memphis are, and that team is a nightmare out in the post season. Sure teams would try to stretch them... but on the other end of the floor those teams would be punished.

All this being said, if Hibbert is available Indiana can get a much better deal than anything we have and would part with so while it's a fun dream its more for fun than anything else.
 
I would explore other options before pressing the button on this. I doubt we would do this anyway. Our management has said they want to build a fast team.

There is a big difference between shooting threes, and the modern jacking threes fetish.

NBA offenses have keyed around the inside/outside idea probably since even before there was a 3pt line. Teams with Shaq often shots lots of threes. But that's not what they were about. They didn't shoot them off the dribble, they didn't gameplan with them. They played inside, beat you up, when you collapsed, boom. That's us too btw. Golden State on the other hand centers its offense on two perimeter chuckers. Good ones, but that's where they START, not end up. Its a much different syndrome, and I am happy to proclaim one that will leave them ringless basically until they celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rick Barry's miracle until they finally go away from it.

1) Hibbert is one of the most vertically inclined in the league. Difference is he STARTS vertical, its alwawys there. That's a huge edge for tall guys. They don't need to jump.

2) Cousins is probably the most mobile center in the game. Being able to jump has nothing to do with mobility.
 
Right. It has to start from the inside (and the Warriors were last in the playoffs in FG% within two feet). Just pointing out a team's tendency to take more three point shots doesn't necessarily correlate to success or not.

drummond, adams, vonleh, wouldn't shock me next year if they took an offensively talented PG in a steph curry mold over a big man.
 
If you can get Hibbert, you take it and run away before the other side changes their mind. We give them Isaiah for scoring prowess off the bench and most likely JT to replace Hibbert, and then we proceed to pummel teams inside on both offense and defense and go home happy. I didn't look into the salaries or anything, but I am sure it isn't out of the realm of possibility. The Pacers couldn't score during the playoffs. IT would help and might even supplement Hill in the starting lineup.

Cousins consistently performs at the top of the league for charges taken. Many times, that requires lateral movement quickly in order to beat the player to that spot and draw the charge. He's certainly mobile enough to the point where 3/4 of the teams out there don't have a big man to keep up.
 
Just a counterpoint to the cousin is laterally quick because he takes charges.
 
PDA and Cousins both want a shot blocking center in the line up and I'm pretty sure they both know that DMC would have to guard the PF. If they think he can do it than we shouldn't doubt them. Aldridge, Griffin, Lee, Dirk, Duncan, ZBo, Ibaka, Boozer, Faried, Monroe, West, ADavis, and Nene are the major PFs in the league he would only have a problem with Aldridge and Dirk. I think he can guard Griffin when he decides to go all out in defense.

Thats all well and good but one thing you don't want is Cousins guarding oppositions best front court player so who ever you get next to him would ideally be able to guard either PFs or Cs depending on who is oppositions best front court player. Thinkwhat we had with Dalembert in Cousins' rookie year. Thats they type of player you want!

We aren't in a position to be that choosy. Be a good reason to keep JT around as a third big, but that won't happen either. Landry is coach's bff, JT is tainted by predating the current junta.
 
But if he turns out to be the sanders from 2012. You have a contender.

That's a nice size frontcourts. That's as the youngins say beast

That may be true, but its also a move that could go a long way toward losing DeMarcus Cousisn for you if it goes south. Such a huge contract it could prevent us from being competitive until Cuz's contract was up.

This. If he only had a couple years left or if we had players at the same length deal, it would be much easier. We'd add 2M in year 3 and 11 million in year 4 and that's assuming we couldn't get anything else of value or out of JT/Landry's deals sooner.

I hate to sound like 4 mil is nothing but it would only be 4 mil more than Landry or Thompson. We usually have at least that in bad contracts anyway. Terry, Landry, outlaw, Thompson, that's 20 mil. With terry and outlaw moving on after the season at the latest. You could come away with JT or Landry and sanders at 17 mil. Heck we just saved 3 mil and have a guy that can get you 10 reb 2-3 blks a game. If sane he fits perfect and is worth it

I tend to agree but I don't think that the front office sees it the same way! I think they are looking for a certain type of player and won't budge away from that especially if they are shelling out in excess of $10 million per season. Personally, I would pull the trigger and work it out later. He can always be traded for a better fit!

Yes, logically speaking, preferring Landry over JT doesn't maie much sense!

Trading for Sanders wouldn't be easy because of the PPP even if we wanted to! Having seen what some of the FA are getting this off-season, JT abd Landry don't even look that overpaid in comparison

Hibbert and Cuz are too slow to guard PFs, and at the offensive end Hibbert can't spread the floor. That's why in my opinion this would be a really bad pairing.

I disagree, Cousin's has the toolset to be a monster at PF, plus it keeps him away from injuries. I've been aching for a big center to pair with Cousins to see what havok he can create. Notice how good his midrange game while being contested all the time? Now imagine if he's able to get free from the paint. We could see him become Dirk-esque with his jumper.
