Trade: Christie for Mobley (MERGED)

what a TRADE i still can't belive it, DON't GET me wrong i will mis doug no player had a heart like him! but putting love and dedication aside this is a Steal for the Kings, only petrie can pull a deal like this after all, Doug is not the same player he used to be. I just don't know yet how mobly will work with our offense, on paper this deal is a Killer, but man petrie knows how to do his job!

i know WE ARE ALL SAD that doug is gone but all those Trade rumors we posted here no one can tell me that you would not trade Doug for mobly, lets face it doug is getting old he ain't the same player couple of years ago, but MAN i WILL MISS you man your always be a KING doug!!!

I would not have

does it matter? Phoenix or Seattle hasn't played a lick of defense all year. Look at their standings in the west. Plus if you got time look and see what Wade, Kobe, and others did against us with christie and against orlando with Mobley.

Sure stats will show Doug can rebound better and get more assist. But thats playing with us. I have always said and will continue to say we make players better. just look at Jim Jackson he was at home watching wheel of fortune when we got him. Now look at MO all of a sudden he is a spark. Brad Miller averaged 2 less assist before he came to the kings and 2 or more less rebounds. So with that in mind take CM's stats and for sake of argument add 2 rebounds and 2 assist to it.

Even if Mobley can opt out after the season

That is one of my concerns, although three things:

1) there is no particualr reason we could not just resign Mobley right back into Doug's $7-$8 million starting OG salary slot. We've been good about holding onto our starters over the years.

2) alternately, we could sign and trade him. There will only be a handul of teams with the salary cap room to sign him outright for more than the exception. He might need us to sign and trade him to get the money he's looking for.

3) If Kevin or Mo looks good enough, we could let him walk and save the money for Peja next year. I think that would be a real mistake unless one of the young guys looks REALLY good though.

In any case, we got good value for an aging OG. Things could go wrong this summer, but we have history and flexibility on our side.

Does this matter ?

It's still not June, is it ?

We were 2x better offensively than any of those teams in 2001/2002 , and what has always proved to be the difference in the playoffs ? D-E-F-E-N-S-E.

Do not count on Pedja here. He can not possibly in his right state of mind like this trade.

He is going to be 4th option now. He is also the best defender Kings have. What a bizarre world.

No way is he the 4th option... He's the second option behind Webber...

One thing you're missing though - the Kings couldn't get it done defensively with Christie when he was a better defender. What makes you think they would have gotten it done this year with an over-the-hill, aging player in Christie who had the knack for missing big plays/shots?

Well, I'm exhausted. I've read all of this thread (which kept growing and growing -- I made dinner, ate and washed dishes all while reading this thread) and have just a few comments.

Firstly, I think we can all agree that if the strategy was to get out and run with Phoenix and Seattle, Petrie just made one hell of a trade. I, however, will need to see a few games to decide how I feel about that as a strategy.

Can't deny the positives of becoming younger and MUCH tougher to guard. Can't deny the negatives of losing such a quality person as Doug Christie. Ultimately, I still have a lot of faith in Petrie being a lot better at his job that I am.

On a more emotional note, I found out this morning that I'll be going to tomorrow's game, and the Christie-free Arco Arena will be.....very odd.

i am absolutely stunned by some of the comments im reading. i stop checkin the boards for about an hour and a half to get some homework done, and the mood turns from somber, appreciative, and reflective to generally hopeless. god knows i love doug as much as everybody else, but is losing him in a very reasonable trade cause for losing hope? doug has played his fair share of defense for the kings, dont get me wrong. im not trying to undercut the man's skills. but, i have to say, his age is starting to show as the injuries are piling up. lately, he has had more trouble rotating back to his man on defense. transistion d has been a problem as well, cuz the legs just arent moving like they used to. cuttino mobley, 29 years old, is more athletic and a fair defender, by most accounts, so i have no doubt that he will ease into his role. it'll take time, but i, for one, welcome him and the talent he will bring our team.

and whats with all the peja comments? doug is the only one to pass to peja? BS!!! i love peja just as much as doug, but my biggest beef with the man is he just plain refuses to call for the ball unless he's wide open. peja stojakovic is the kinda guy who can create for himself with a lot of off-the-ball movement. doug always seemed to find him, and that's great, but that was cuz peja looked for doug to apss to him. peja moves less when webbs on the high post. if he moved as much when webb has the ball (as a matter of fact, if the whole team did), then he would get more open looks, cuz we basically run the o thru webb. w/e points peja actually loses, and i dont imagine it will be any, cuttino will more than make up for. having 5 scoring options on the floor is very very dangerous, and it shouldnt be underestimated, especially by kings fans, of all people!!!

anyways, thats my rant, cuz i think its unfair to judge cuttino based on a performance he has yet to give. i think he will fit in fine, and i think we will all see that before the end.

ok piksi as 2 serbs you and i have to agree that we are big Pedja Fans like so many other Serbs but lets cut the bs here if Peja is going to be 4th option than Peja is NOT A STAR! HE IS just a small role player and that has nothing to do with the way he plays its All MENTALLY if Peja does not have the Killer instinct i want to be the Best I AM THE FIRST OPTION, i am going to shoot the ball , than Peja Stojakovic is not meant to be a STAR he is just a small player on COURT! and IF that does happen ITS PEJA'S FAULT no one elses. I expect him too Shoot as many times as Chris Webber (even it won't happen likley) but mobly can't be the EXCUSE that peja will be third or 4th options ITS HIM. DO YOU WANT TO TAKE CHARGE? then become First option! its posible problem with Peja is not his STYLE OF basketball its his mentality how he approaches the game he is TOO PASSIVE, so become aggresive Peja!

I hope we do the right thing (like Red Sox did for Nomar) and when we win the championship this year we give DC a ring as well :)

mmmmm.....very well said! and it applies to every king. i've said it before and i'll say it again: the only thing stopping the kings from winning a championship is themselves.

And that is one of the best discussions of Pedja by a Serb fan I think I've ever read.

Bravo.

What is he supposed to do ? Bring the ball upcort himself ? He has been a 3rd option thus far in the season. How many games do You get to watch ? Pedja has scored at least 10 % of his pts on a DC pass. Add about 20 % on Vlade's. ans 20 % Webbers. You can figure this out for Yourself

mostly movement in such case is a waste of energy unless Your name is Bibby.

Obviously DC is going to be missed but he wasn't getting any better so I like this deal and hopefully Cat will help us on our quest for the championship.

I guess one of the interesting things about this whole trade to me is that Mobley's contract basically expires at the end of this year (well, he has a one year player option, which I don't see him exercising). So, in terms of him working within our system, I hope he can adjust to it and adjust quickly. There isn't time for much of a learning curb when you only have the player for six months.

Why wouldn't he want to exercise it? The Kings are one of the better teams in the game, they've become names always mentioned as a better than average chance to win a championship, they have a strong fan base, a great GM, great owners, who WOULDN'T want to stay in Sacramento unless they were screwed up in the head *coughMassenbergClarkcough*?

Be optimistic, for crying out loud.

Hey i might be a Peja Fanetic but im not blind with the Truth, as much as i love Peja's game i CAN NOT Lie about and trust me this *** kissing for peja is making me sick, if you want to be the best there are no excuse just play agressive and i will SEE how Pedja will do if he does become third option that quite frankly im dissaponted with Peja but i think this will benefit him more shooters people got to gaurd, so pejas hould get more open looks, and its all about him no one else.

thats kindofa a blind statement, coming from a kings fan. we all know the offense runs thru the big men, tho brad has been less involved of late, which is no real cause for concern, but i would like to see him assert himself more. when the kings are in a set offense, that is, webber has the ball on the high post and the other guys are cutting and slashing, we all know the kings are at their best, cuz webb will hit those guys, whoever they may be. sell that "waste of energy" story somewhere else. the only thing stopping peja from scoring is himself. when he plays aggressive, he leads the team in scoring, and we win. he needs to play aggressively more often. scratch that. he needs to play aggressively night in and night out. plain and simple.

damnnnnnn

im sad to see him go ... DC was the mannnnnnn

... im ok with Mobley but what happens to our chemistry ? we will see ...

Webber is gonna shoot, Bibby is gonna shoot ... they are paid a lot they have the right to take many shots ... Mobley is gonna shoot more than DC thats for sure ... Brad wants some shots too ... and what happens to the best shooter in the league ? ... I have no idea ...

I think there's too many shooters on this team ... I just want them to pass the damn ball and not force shots ... thats all i want to see ... and whoever of these 5 guys is hot ... look for him ... set some screens ... and pass the ball

THATS ALLL .... GO KINGS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

hm ... really ? I think they should pay him a bit more to do that ...

he's payed to play basketball. its his choice whether or not he wants to play aggresively. if he wants to puss out, and play half-***, then so be it. its a damn shame and a damn waste of talent, but winners are the guys that leave it all on the floor. i'll leave it at that.

I heard a small rumor on another board that said the Kings have interest in Denver's Nene. It seems like some people on this board think that GP is planning another move (I tend to agree), so just wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this.

Great D - Now Orlando traded him because their perimiter D sucks. What did he do ? Had one good game and Rockets lost the series.
