Tracy McGrady Available

The deal you proposed is an absolute steal for us, but I doubt McGrady's value is so low. Maybe a package of Brad Miller+John Salmons would be closer in value.

Note: before we even get to McGrady being too old and too much in decline to make any sense for us, note that the whole thing was a pure 100% Sam Smith speculation, and one so much of a reach that even Sam, one of the league's chief rumor-mongerers, decided to preface it with "its probably not even a scenario yet, but...I believe".

No thanks. Doesn't fit here right now, too old. We need someone who will be a great player 3-4 years down the line. McGrady would help us right now, but what does that really accomplish?

Too old? Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Garnett are all too old too. Personally, I still think McGrady has enough in him to help us for the next few years, especially if we can get a good point.

A lineup of:

Hawes
Thompson
McGrady
Martin
Good PG

IDK, I like it, but I guess my opinion could matter very little.

I don't care if he comes to you with one leg missing, if you get him through that deal the OP linked, you do it.

Jesus Christ! I thought nothing of this thread until I saw your post. After that I clicked on the link.

TMac may be over the hill, but if all you have to give up is Salmons, AND you get to move Kenny Thomas and Mikki Moore, YOU DO IT!!!!

the dude is trash

Look, Tracy might be past his prime and constantly injured, and, I for one would not try to aquire him, but he's not trash. He's a human being and has been a great player in the past. He at least deserves respect for what he's accomplished.

Besides, remember, One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Yeah, I took a look too, and saw that his contract is for 20 mil but expires in 2010. It is tempting.

If his contract expires in 2010, which it does, it would be a good thing to go after him. It gives us a #1 guy, as well as someone who can finish a game. He will also sell tickets at arco which is always a good think. Not to mention if we package Miller and Salmons we also free up more time for Hawes and Thompson. He may be old but that guy can still play and he's the type of player this team has needed from day one. What can be so bad about it if his contract expires in 2010? Its a risk worth taking, if a risk at all. I know we'll play better than we are now.

If he plays.... Which is a big IF.

I would pull the trigger on the trade linked in the thread starter because we don't give anything up to get someone plus he expired in 10.. Why wouldn't you?

TMac is passed his prime because he is constantly injured. He the guard version of Chris Webber, wasting his prime on the injured list.

He'd set up the team lot more than Salmons.

Hurts draft position, will not be here when we matter. Its a rebuild -- anything short term that inflates your wins today but will not be helping in 5 years is a waste.

There's no point in acquiring Tracy whatsoever, and really, that one man's trash is another man's treasure doesn't really apply to him anymore--he's not even trash to begin with. He is obviously an extremely known commodity who can still contribute extremely sporadically at a high level, but for some reason it seems that he's aged rapidly (if I recall the guy even talked about retirement just a couple years back) and it's sad how his body has broken down so quickly--once league leader in free throw attempts, now reduced to jumpshooter. If for whatever reason the Rockets give up on him (I don't think they should IMO) then he deserves to go to a contender where he can be a sparkplug of sorts off the bench. Not for us

with me it has nothing to do with his injuries even though they are a big concern. He always chokes he shoots to many jump shots doesn't play aggresively and has ZERO motivation. Why can't a player with his ability never even get out of the first round? Cause he has no heart and no motivation. And I've seen him never wanting to take responsibilty for losses.

Everybodys always so blinded when it comes to tmac he is a waste. I'd rather trade to have artest back LOL

what's with the age comparison to ray Allen Paul pierce and kevin garnett? Even though they never got that title alone they still did enough to put themselves leagues ahead of Tracy. Ray Allen single handendly beat the kings in 05 and gave the spurs a run for their money. One of the only years garnett had pretty good talent he made it to the wcf. Paul pierce has made it to the ecf and gas always been known as one of the clutcher performers. Tracy on the other hand hasn't done squat! That guy needs all the talent in the world to succeed and even when he's had it he still gets axed in the first round.
