Should the league agree to give the Kings one more season in Sacramento, that timeline would come with a restriction, a source close to the negotiations said: Plans for a new arena must be finalized by next March in order for the city to keep the team.

True, but a lot of the city was totally fed up with Heather Fargo. Kevin Johnson won fairly narrowly, like 52% to 48%. Also, Detroit elected an former NBA star, Dave Bing a couple years prior to KJ winning.

Bill Bradley was a former NBA player that went far in politics as a three term Senator from New Jersey and even an unsuccessful run at the presidency in 2000. First ran for Sentaor in 1978.

I have a feeling KJ will go far in politics too. Maybe even governor of CA. He's scoring so many political points right now it's ridiculous.
