[MLB] The “Sacramento” A’s thread 2025

Kurtz being a productive hitter even when he isn’t hitting dingers all the way into the Pacific Ocean bodes well for his career

Colby Thomas coming into his own now. Forst really did a great job of building up the farm system post 2021 and it’s finally paying off. (Just need like ten more pitchers lol)

The A’s accidentally drafting a new version of Aaron Judge hurts extra hard since this should’ve been in Oakland. That said, as a Zombie A’s fan (at least until/if they actually move to Vegas), I’ve never been higher on this team’s future than I am now. Kurtz and Wilson are franchise cornerstone level superstar players (at least until Fisher realizes that he actually has to pay them), almost all the other other prospects that got called up this season are flashing (Colby Thomas is finally figuring our major league pitching and Denzel Clarke is a beast in the outfield), the ‘old’ guys are still mashing (Rooker, Sody, and Shea all over 20 homers on the season) and there are actual pitching prospects on their way through the system over the next couple of years/ the A’s actually are deep enough to move pieces/prospects to acquire more pitching.

And on top of all that if De Vries turns out to be as good as his 3rd overall prospect ranking says he is, the A’s suddenly have the best infield in baseball.

Okay so this Leo De Vries kid looks really good.

That was why I was confused by people on the internet calling the Mason Miller trade another typical John Fisher move.

The Padres moved one of the best prospects in baseball for a guy they’re currently using as the set-up guy to the set-up guy. This wasn’t First trading Donaldson for a bunch of AAAA guys again. Every thing I seen from De Vries suggests he is going to be really really good.

Yeah I agree, it's been a complete turn-around from where this team was two years ago -- in last place with the worst prospect pool in MLB. But I can't blame anyone for taking a "prove it" approach since there were a few years in a row there where it felt like this front office was actively trying to make the team worse (I mean... they probably were, to drive Oakland fans away, but Rob Manfred wanted them in Las Vegas anyway so I don't think they needed to do that).

And in addition to all of the guys you listed, there's two other 18 year olds in the A's system -- Shotaro Morii (3B/RHP) and Edgar Montero (SS/3B) -- who are a lot further away but so far have looked good in rookie ball. And lefty power-bat Devin Taylor fresh out of this year's draft class has already got 4 HR and 8 RBI in just 11 games in Stockton. He's got no defensive skills but he might be the eventual Brent Rooker replacement at DH. This team has a very bright future.

But I hope the fans in Sacramento continue to boo this man anyway...
