[MLB] The “Sacramento” A’s thread 2025

The A’s genuinely accidentally finding a superstar immediately after they decided to leave Oakland just sucks for so many reasons but as someone who’s decided to root for the Sacramento A’s, watching the kid find a way to hit everything like he’s prime Ichiro is just so fun.

The A's drafted Wilson the summer before they announced that they were leaving Oakland and he has .401 career batting average in the minor leagues so we knew that he was going hit a ton. All of us Oakland fans knew that we'd better watch the prospects every year because none of the big league players were going to kept past arbitration. The only thing I miss about major league baseball is getting to see the prospects turn into stars. That part never gets old.

So this year I decided to get a boatload of Jacob Wilson rookie cards... I have about 150-200 cards now. About 25 signature cards, another 50 or so game worn swatch cards. Almost every variation. I got them before the season because this freaking kid was hitting .433 in AA ball with over 200 AB!!! He might be the first player in a very long time to come close to .400 once Judge cools down.

I don't have a 401k because I lost it during the pandemic to stay afloat, but I do have a ton of baseball cards which I will sell. Right now I think they are worth about 250k all together, but if Wilson pans out I will have hit the lottery. Already he has his PSA 10 auto cards going for $500+. I have about 10 or so PSA 10s the rest are ungraded, but I will be grading them. I don't see anything below a 9.

I also bought probably 100 or so just normal cards that are of the $5-$10 variety. If there are 30-40 that are either 9s or 10s I can make some money on them too when PSA has a sale on grading cards.

I don't really buy boxes of cards or anything anymore. Just singles. I have about 10-15 PSA 10 Aaron Judges but most are of the $100-$500 variety. Nothing way out there. I have about 27 of the 1989 UD Ken Griffey Jr cards. All ungraded, but all in very good condition. There are probably 3-5 10s in that group. I have a boatload of 1985 topps and a few McGwire USA cards, Roger Clemens and Kirby Puckett rookies.

I have a couple hundred Nolan Ryans from 1982 through 1990 when I collected heavily as a kid. Lots of Wade Boggs rookies too. I have like a small gun chest full of cards that are in magnet cases. I almost put them up for sale during pandemic, but I was able to get a job.

Jacob Wilson is currently on pace to be the first rookie to get 200 hits in a season since Ichiro so all signs point to yes lol
