Superhero Draft - team write-ups and post-draft rankings to be done

Merlin

Damn you Brick.

ok, at the rate xmen are falling, I better take this one while I can. I only hope my other choices are there when this gets back to me.

I'm taking my favorite Cajun, GAMBIT!

Gambit has the mutant ability to tap into the potential energy contained within an object and transform it into kinetic energy upon touching it. When Gambit thus charges an object and throws it at a target, the object releases this energy explosively on impact. Gambit is unable to use this power to charge living objects.
After surgery performed by Mister Sinister, Gambit's powers were restored to their natural potential. He was able to use his power simply by looking at an object that he wished to charge, including living tissue. Gambit could also manipulate the potency of the energy release and could even exercise a measure of control over time.

This one hurts. Nice pick.

After a long night of negotiations and discussion, we have decided to select:

Reed Richards AKA Mr. Fantastic
mr-fantastic-fantastic-four.jpg

This team needs a leader and a brilliant mind for problem solving and building armor improvements...also, he can stretch like crazy...

Powers from wiki:

Powers and abilities

Reed Richards gained the power of elasticity from irradiation by cosmic rays. He has the ability to convert his entire body into a highly malleable state at will, allowing him to stretch, deform, and reform himself into virtually any shape. Reed Richards has been observed as being able to utilize his stretching form in a variety of offensive and defensive manners, such as compressing himself into a ball and ricocheting into enemies or flattening himself into a trampoline or a parachute to rescue a teammate. He can squeeze through openings sometimes even as small as one molecule's breadth. He can twist or reshape his body or stretch roughly three miles fully extended before physical pain. He can flatten himself to the thickness of a sheet of vellum. Due to Reed's distaste for violence, he will usually wrap an opponent up in his body to attempt to control and compromise with them. To trap an opponent, he can also flatten his body and smother his opponent until they give in. Other applications of his powers include expanding his lungs allowing him to hold his breath longer, adjusting the distance between his cornea and retina to allow for natural ocular magnification, and in at least one case shortening the distance between the synapses in his brain allowing him to process thought at impossible speeds. He has also shown that he can stretch his brain's cerebellum as to facilitate operation of Cerebro, the mutant finding computer devised by Professor Charles Xavier.
Because of his elastic nature, Mr. Fantastic cannot be harmed by traditional bullets or most other projectile weapons, including knives, missiles, darts, etc, and has superhuman durability. He can often cause projectiles to rebound back towards the attacker. Despite this, Reed is not completely invulnerable. His skin has been cut at least once by an evolved form of a Brood queen; while reaching into a direct hole to Hell created by Elizabeth Cromwell, a random demon reached out and inexplicably broke his arm; and on occasion if he suffers a large amount of head trauma he'll lose consciousness. He has also shown to have all the weaknesses of rubber, as he melts and weakens when exposed to extreme heat and will freeze and crack when exposed to super-cool temperatures. He has also occasionally demonstrated other applications of this molecular control. While imprisoned by Psycho-Man, meditation allowed him to reduce his body to a nearly liquid state in order to flow out of a glass encasement specially prepared by the villain to have only the most infinitesimal of openings.
Reed's elasticity makes it extremely difficult for attackers to hold or pin him, as his body can become slippery or so thin that he can slip out of a grasping fist. However, Reed is vulnerable to types of energy weapons, and even to taffy-puller-style machines that forcibly stretch him to the limits of his tensile durability eventually causing physical pain, as well as the temporary loss of his solid state due to the mental stress.
Reed can alter his physical makeup as well. He can, for instance, disguise his appearance to mimic another person, an inanimate object, or even, in one case, mimic the physical form of an extra-terrestrial. He can also concentrate his mass into a single body part, such as when he enlarges a fist into a solid hammer or mace-style weapon. All of these feats require extreme concentration but thanks to his training, and mental discipline, they can be performed rather quickly. On one occasion, he increased his entire body's size and mass, bulking his body to "Thing"-like proportions while increasing his strength as well.
Despite this, Richards' strength comes more from the powers of his mind than the powers of his body; indeed, he once told Spider-Man that he considers his stretching powers to be expendable compared to his intellect.[36] Reed Richards is a visionary theoretician and inspired machine smith who has made breakthroughs in such varied fields as space travel, time travel, extra-dimensional travel, biochemistry, robotics, computers, synthetic polymers, communications, mutations, transportation, holography, energy generation, spectral analysis and more. Richards has earned Ph.D.s in mathematics, physics, and engineering. Dr. Richards is often known to rewrite works of Stephen Hawking and decode alien languages. He is considered by many in the scientific community to be the greatest intellect on earth (much to Doctor Doom's consternation). Not only has Reed proven himself to be a genius in virtually every science native to Earth, he has shown himself to be more knowledgeable than even some of the most highly advanced alien civilizations in the known universe as well. Reed's patents are so valuable that he is able to bankroll the Fantastic Four, Inc., without any undue financial stress. Some writers have shown that Reed's intelligence was expanded by the cosmic rays that gave him his elastic powers, and that, when his powers are nullified, he is not as hyper-intelligent (at times barely keeping up with Doctor Doom).[citation needed] Mind control is rarely effective on him and when it does work, it wears off sooner than it would a normal person, due to what he describes as an "elastic consciousness".
Mr. Fantastic is, however, not without flaws. The accident that resulted in the Fantastic Four gaining their powers was the direct result of a hasty miscalculation on Reed's part. For years he has tried to restore The Thing to his human form, but a permanent solution has eluded him. He has admitted, on more than one occasion, to being incapable of understanding magic, as he cannot begin to fathom an aspect of science (as he calls it) that is "not based in quantifiable laws and rules". He has, however, utilized simple magic spells.[37] He learned to let go of his ego and admit he did not actually understand magic, but that it does exist. (This is generally thought to be the only advantage that Doctor Doom has over Reed in as much as he has successfully joined science with magic.)
Reed has also admitted to not having the same kind of specialist knowledge as his peers, though such occasions are, admittedly, rare and generally reflect a lack of experience in a specific narrow field or application rather than a lack of ability. On such occasions, he shows no hesitation in bringing in an expert to consult.
Richards was given possession of the Power Infinity Gem.[volume & issue needed] This gem contains access to all power and energy that ever has or will exist, and can back the other gems and boost their effects. It allows the user to duplicate almost any physical superhuman ability and become invincible. Like all former Illuminati members, Richards has vowed never to use or reveal the location of the gem.

Wow, I've never realized how long it is between picks!

But there's like 30 heroes taken since I last picked!!

That narrows it a bit!

BTW, Great pick with Mr. Fantastic. He is a great leader.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Don't laugh, she's been to Hell, killed countless demons and saved hundreds of lives.

Her sole purpose is to kill all the undead, supernatural and demonic that has been drafted in the supervillian draft.

Also it's to get the Whedon fans to vote for me.

Also it's to pretty up my roster.

You want me to live where and defend what?

"The only catch was that I have to live on the island
--Also aren't you a little too old to be in highschool?"

Diablo's forces tremble.

Heh -- I was going to take Buffy in an upcoming round if nobody else did. She always finds a way. And if you kill her, she always comes back. ;)

I'm not sure about that highly goofy wallpaper though.

With the last pick of Round 3, kingsnation selects...

Luke Skywalker

Let's face it, a team of superheroes should never exist without The Force.

And so, my pick is the Jedi who restored peace to the Galaxy.
Remember, Darth Vader is not unbeatable. He has a heart and that weakness is exploited when he sees his son.

Now, my team has brains, power and The Force.

And with the first pick of Round 4, kingsnation selects..

Captain Jack Sparrow

I was very pleasantly surprised to see Cap'n Jack still available.

While he won't beat anyone with his fighting skills or super powers, Cap'n Jack always finds a way.

Sparrow is the Pirate Lord of the Caribbean Sea and can be treacherous, surviving mostly by using wit and negotiation rather than weapons and force; although he will fight if necessary.

Sparrow usually prefers the strategies of non-violent negotiations and turning his enemies against each other.

He explains, "Why fight when you can negotiate? All one needs is the proper leverage."

He has the ability with the help of Professor X to turn any of the other teams against each other.

Island?? Yeah - we have the Black Pearl.

Not to mention, with the addition of Captain Jack - we've got the swagger.

I also had him in que, you are going to get the support of a lot of ladies on this board.

My pick is coming up next..

My next pick, so I don't upset venom_7 ;) just playing I won't draft the man but a character he portrayed.

My next pick is the masked man on the right played by that man in the yellow

Kato (portrayed by Bruce Lee) in The Green Hornet

He may be a sidekick but he is also the chauffeur, bodyguard and enforcer. He cleared out rooms while the Green Hornet stood back and threw praise.

To get a feel of how Kato handled things for the Green Hornet I chose this clip (skip ahead to 6 min 50 sec) from Lee's biopic:

--click twice if it does not skip ahead properly

Here is Bruce Lee's audition where he shows the speed and intensity that he would display as Kato.

Bruce Lee also killed Chuck Norris in Way of the Dragon, I'm shaking my fist at you, Aleksandar

Incredible selection. Now where's the rum?

With the selection as Godzilla as a villain... I think, though this pick my be controversial, I think it should stand... to be fair, though, I will take this character without the five drivers, my heroes will take care of manning this force...and he is one hero... just divided... Here is proof from wiki:
Voltron, in the comic book series published by Devil's Due, was originally a unified machine intelligence, since it was created by sorcerers and scientists, therefore having hands and feet making him look like a knight. Voltron was tricked by Haggar into landing on a black comet with nearly the gravitational attraction of a singularity. This comet was either a reference to, or actually was, the Omega Comet from the anime, which had identical properties, and which appeared in the TV show. Voltron was then attacked by Haggar, and somehow blown into five pieces. They became the five "lions." (Much of this was presented in the "History of Voltron" back-up stories written by Mark Waid, which were ended early due to the cancellation of the series.)

After a long night of deliberation, Reed Richards insisted I select: Voltron: Defender of the Universe AKA Voltron III AKA Lion Voltron

voltron.jpg

[yt=Voltron Tribute]CSm0Xs_CkTA[/yt] [yt=Voltron Opener]1uS5b8aQ6z8[/yt]

I figure I will have 1 to 5 of my heroes controlling Voltron at any one given time. Obviously, in Lion mode, all five would be required; but who really needs lion mode? (imagine Voltron with Green Lantern powers?) Also, Reed Richards could drive the whole thing at once, no problem... no need for those kids...

I figured Voltron wouldn't fly, which is why he wasn't an earlier choice for me. Voltron specifically needs all five team members in order to function. I think it's the same reason why Devastator shouldn't be allowed in the Super Villains thread.
