Summer League player watch

We owe Orton a big debt of gratitude. Not only did he sucker one of the bigman-seeking teams into a burning a pick on him instead of Whiteside, his trash talk about Cousins may have contributed to him falling to us! :D

Does anybody know if Mr. Whiteside is more NBA ready than Orton? I admit I know nothing of this Hassan Whiteside other than youtube vids, but I followed UK heavily during the year. Orton did zilch in college that's why I always scratched my head when I heard he was a guranteed Lotto pick.

OKC has SCARY young talent , great young nucleus they have.

Ryan Thompson is getting a little desperate for the ball lol. No one on the Celtics team is passing to him. At least he's making Turner work... and got burned by Holiday.

Every time he has the ball he goes to the rim, just like in college. That's good to see. He made a good pass to a cutter.

Good play on the passing lane, but he's too desperate to get his that he blows a 2 on 1.

Statwise, so far a lot of the guys with strong first games are not so much following up in game 2. So goes the SL.

That's the curse of being a wing player in a rookie league. Everyone is desperate to prove themselves and impress some GMs. Ball dominant guards get to shine. Big guys can at least play tough defense and rebound the ball. But if you're a wing player you're really at the mercy of your teammates. You just have to hope you're matched up with a guard who likes to pass. I see the same thing in high school All-Star games all the time.

Jesus... Holiday sounds like a true leader in this post game interview, at least in the way that I envision one.

Lance Stephenson just got obliterated on a screen. I know because I've run into a few brick walls in my day.

Lance is being shut down by Terrance Williams, lol.

This Watkins guy just blew Stephenson's assist. Reminds me so much of Tyreke's year. lol. He gets guys the best looks and they just put up bricks.

Ugh and McBob is blowing more open shots sets up by Stephenson.

omg now McBob is blowing layups just like Spencer Hawes and JT last year.

Terence Williams with another good game so far, but he keeps leaving his feet to pass. Knicks passing over Stephenson might be another legendary mishap.

I think the biggest thing Whiteside has going for him over Orton on being ready is playing time. Orton had trouble getting on the florr for Kentucky with Cousins and Patterson. However, he did show improvement throughout the season and a few signs of being a good player down the road. With his size, it is hard for teams to pass on his potenial (but it was obvious that he would be a project). Whiteside is a project as well, but there are aspects his game that should allow him to get minutes IMO. If the Kings use him like Denver uses Chris Anderson, he can come into games bringing energy and generally creating havoc on the defensive end of the court. His mid-range jumpshot at least should keep him from being a liability on offense, but I think there will be a lot of times when he looks completely lost out of the floor (especially the first half of the season).

That's good to hear I really wish I could of caught more of his games I know Marshall played a couple times on the CBS College Sports station. I can't wait to see this guy live next week in the SL, I'm actually more hyped to see him then Big DMC (he's got too much confidence to look lost out there IMO he might be too agressive but his presence will be known), I am really intrigued by this Whiteside guy.

Matt Janning looks great out there (but his only hope in this league is at point guard). He has some definite strengths. (His handles, vision, shooting form.) Deshawn Sims also looks like he has a ton of potential. Ryan Thompson is playing much less desperate today (and better). He's focusing on his offensive position, defense and making the correct play when he does have the ball. (Although he did barrel into the lane a little hectically.

RT definitely does play like a SG version of his brother sometimes. Hyper-actively running around like a chicken with its head cut off must run in the family.

I think Mustafa Shakur should get a camp invite (again) he looked great today, 21pts, 5rebs, 5asts, 5stls, 1blk shot 60% fg and 50% 3pt.

when he is getting steady mins he is playing well, being 6'3" I think he is worth a 2nd look.

Ryan Thompson is starting today for Boston's team so far 7pts 2reb 1ast. he is looking good, but just got blocked by Paul George

This is not pointed at any player in particular, but you'll notice that in the final sets of games that most of the players that looked great in the early games will start to struggle in some of the later one's as the teams tighten up everything.

Three good performances in a row already rates pretty high on the SL consistency scale. ;)

After seeing that he only played 8 minutes I knew something must have happened to the guy. The highlights on NBA.com show him getting a nice knee in his thigh. I hope these injuries don't keep piling up for him because he has the chance to be special.
