Summer League player watch

in favors defense he is playing a new system with guys he met 2 or 3 days ago. I don't mind seeing upside in players during summer league. But I am not going to put guys down for looking lost in a system of confusion and chaos.

It seems that it's often hard for big men to find their place in these SL games. Perimeter slashers usually do the best, some of them exploding on the SL scene and then hardly making a peep in real games.

The passes were amazing.

I didn't see the game, and frankly I'm surprised. Stephenson was a black hole on the Cinncinatti team. He was a decent passer, when he did pass the ball, which was seldom. His outside shot was inconsistant. He does have an NBA body. Built similar to Tyreke. He also was a hot head. He made Cousins look like an angel at times. The biggest question mark about him was his athletic ability. I'll have to make sure I Catch his next game.

If Terrence Williams could show a decent 3pt shot, I think he's the Doug Christie type we've been looking for.

On the other side of the scale, Jodie Meeks is a 6'4 shooter/gunner to go with Tyreke, but doesn't offer the vision/passing of Williams.

Biggest problem with Williams in college was his outside shot. Biggest problem with Williams after a year in the NBA. Outside shot! Its almost as though he has no feel for it.

He's a terrific athlete though. He's also a good defender.. Really needs to work on his offense.

Favors looks offensively retarded out there. Whenever the balls on his side of his court, he looks plain confused and lost.

In other news, Turner is playing way out of control.

Not unusual on both counts. First game in summer league in the strange system. The best way to judge them is in their third or fourth games.

It really is the unending question, but to be honest, Tyreke needs a 3pt shot to overcome the athletic difference between him and the elites. Christie's unsure shot was balanced by Bibby's. I just really like Williams for his defense, size and passing.

Daniel Orton - Oh dear oh dear.

he couldn't buy a bucket then he elbowed someone in the face and got ejected.

This is the kind of thing i see happening to Cousins in my nightmares.

Kings dont play until the 12th.

Kings have closed practices 9, 10 and 11 July in Sacramento then leave for Las Vegas to begin "open" play in the Summer League there with games on 12, 13, 14 then day off before games each of next three days. As Bajaden pointed out the first 1 or 2 games are "throw away games" until everyone calms down and starts to play team ball. The two of us will begin watching from game 3 next Wednesday the 14th.

Don't get me wrong. I like Williams, and he's loaded with potential. From what I've read is that he's finally serious about improving his game, which was in doubt for a while. I expect he'll butt heads with his new coach, Johnson for a while, since Johnson is a no nonsense type of coach. If Williams can improve his game he has a chance to be a star in the league. He just has to realize that he can't get by on athleticism alone. Hopefully he has..

Jerome Randle - Today he seems more eager to score then to do anything else. 8pts, 1reb, 2ast, 2 fouls. he is staying infront of his man.

Sundiata Gaines - Today looks like he can get to the rim at will, looks to be always attacking the rim, looks very strong. 7pts, 2rebs, 1ast, 2 tos. he needs to improve his ft shooting.

Daniel Orton - He just looks bad. He is a black hole on offense. tries to muscle his way through the paint but hasn't done anything. he cant pass, cant rebound, cant score. he is a PROJECT! he isnt first round talent.

Randle looks quick as hell I am really surprised about his quickness, it looks deadly in that Aaron Brooks mold. I really hope we have people keeping an eye out on him because he will shine on the right squad coming off a teams bench.

Also Daniel Orton looks terrible out there real terrible, so terrible that I wouldn't be surprised to see Paul Davis get looked at from the Magic if they are really shopping Gortat. Something tells me big DMC can't look as bad as this kid I'm really surprised Orl took him that high considering what type of guys were left that could of helped them now.

Let's not have amnesia about past Summer Leagues. Don't be too harsh on big men who look lost, and don't get too excited about little guys who look good.

Kings were the first team to give Randle a workout, they are watching him. Jason Jones said the Kings like him.

Not personally surprised by Randle. He's just a good all around player that can do everything you want a pt guard to do. He's lightning quick and is a very good outside shooter. The only reason he dropped is his size. I guarantee you that if Randle was 6'2" he would have been a first round pick. Perhaps even a lottery pick.

As far as Cousins looking as bad as Orton, now you know why Orton couldn't stay on the floor for more than 3 or 4 minutes a game. Strange isn't it, that Orton was the only teammate to try and throw dirt on Cousins, and he's the one getting kicked out of a game.

Any word on how committed he is to Orlando? I'd like to see us fill out the backcourt with a little change of pace 3rd string PG and a 6'5" spot shooter.

It's not that he looks lost, guys that look lost atleast get it after awhile. But and it was said last night during the first Orl game this Orton kid is either gonna get all the confidence in the world by banging with Dwight all day or he will be a bust fast before anyone realizes it.

Also that's great they are watching Randle the guys got game regardless of what time of the year it is.

I'm throwing that out there as more of a general priciple, not specifically in reference to those guys. Obviously some guys are busts and it will show, and some guys that look good will be good. There will also be some deceiving performances in either direction that will cause all kinds of overreaction on the interwebs.

I think he is trying to get a job. he is also on Washington's summer league roster, with like 10 other pgs the wizards have on their summer roster.

Patrick Ewing junior looks much much better than he did when he was on our summer league team.

I was just gonna post that, he seems to be more of a gunner now than when I first remembered, but I'm surprised he hasn't gotten a real chance yet. He's got the name of a legend and he's a good size for the league there has to be some team out there that could use him.

Paul Davis looks good out there as well, he's been productive literally the whole game going against Koufus, maybe he finally gets a chance this year as well.

He is again on the Knicks summer league team in Vegas, I am sure he will make their team. they only have Douglas, Rooster, Curry, Amare and Chandler. Landry's brother Marcus is also on their roster.
