Sports Illustrated: Rookie Tyreke Evans has become Lebron James of Point Guards.

Very nice article. I like the running back analogy. The last King that I thought of as a running back was Travis Mays. But Reke's got 20 lbs and at least 6 inches more reach than Mays had. They both had the same instinct to take it to the hole, but Reke's obviously a more successful finisher and has a no-weakness kind of talent. Mays was not a big strong body; he just played like he had one and sacrificed his body in the process. But I believe he hit a couple of game-winners as a rookie and his prospects were pretty good at that point.

Go Reke!

"I wanted to be better than everybody I was playing against. I wanted to be the best." - Tyreke Evans

Nice article. so glad we have this kid.

Please do not ever bring up Travis Mays again when discussing Tyreke Evans.

We'll see how Griffin is soon. I'm glad everything has worked out because after last season, we deserved the best player in the draft. I was worried after the stupid draft lottery only gave us the 4th pick, when we were far and away the worst team in the NBA last year.

Thanks for that comment. I never really thought of it that way, but it's nice to think that the worst team may have actually got the best pick, despite those damn ping pong balls. :p

Haha for sure. What's funnier is, how do the Griz feel now that they passed up on the kid in their own backyard for Thabeet? :)

This has been posted at least twice before. We keep on trying to control it by dumping it into mega-Tyreke threads, and it keeps coming back. I'm just going to leave it out on its own this time because its back from the dead zombie article abi8lities are frankly getting a little creepy.

Actually we weren't the worst team in the NBA despite our record. Their werer 1 or 2 other teams that, imo, were worse. Still, I think we deserved number 1, but it doesn't matter now because we got the #1 best player!

I wonder if Petrie would have taken Reke if he got the #1 pick.......

That's a great article. I think it's been linked here before but it's worth a second read.

Yeah especially considering they are having their own financial troubles. If they had picked Tyreke I bet they'd have been well on their way to being in the black.

I almost threw up when I saw that comparison..YIKES! Maybe we shouldn't have anything to do with players named May, or Mays.:)

You guys aren't superstitious, are you???
I guess I have a similar reaction when someone mentions Reke and LeBron in the same sentence...

Mays was a scrub who bombed out of the NBA in 2 years.

Reke has far more in common with Lebron and will be meeting him at All Star games for the next decade.

If you want to compare Evans to someone and sound conservative, take note from that hack Chad Ford and compare him to Jerry Stackhouse. Not a terrible comparison. I say that Stack is Evans's floor, Clyde Drexler is his ceiling (not as athletic as Clyde, but may have about the same impact).

Tyreke has already cleared the Stackhouse floor by a comfortable margin. Career 40% shooter that was closer to 3R/3A than 5/5? Aim higher. :)

Okay, based off of that response, let's try to establish his floor, for fun:

Shooting guards:
Earl "The Pearl" Monroe: 18.8ppg, 46.4% FG, 4 ast, 3 rbd.
"Pistol" Pete Marovich: 24 ppg, 44% FG, 5 ast, 4 rbd.

And as far as Point guards:
Walt Frazier: 19 ppg, 49% FG, 5.9 ast, 6 rbg. ( I don't think Evans will ever post a 19 assist game though, or roll up in a Rolls Royce to games).

Hard to find comparable PG's really.

Those are still HOF'ers though, I'm trying to find someone not HOF worthy.

His floor is more like Brandon Roy. A slight uptick in numbers and he's basically already there as a rookie.

Yeah, floor of Roy is kind of amazing to say, but his production is identical right now, and I can't see him doing anything but get better.

For the first time in a very long time, I'm actually looking forward to next week's issue of SI... And the issues after that. I'd given up my subscription and only got it back on a whim - and an incredibly good "We want you back!" offer. Looks like I made the right decision at just the right time.

:D
