So lets see, our roster now is......

How can anything we do next year make us " In deep trouble " ..

We'd be in deeep trouble because if Williams - a bust - plays more than JT, that doesn't bode well for the talent of our #1 pick. Either that, or Reggie, ends up playing a bust (Williams) more than our #1 pick just because the bust has experience, which also has negative implications about the acumen of our coach. Anyway you cut it, Williams getting more minutes than JT - stinks.

Training camp in a few weeks is going to decide A LOT . First, who starts. Mikki has PF starting job currently - so it's his to lose. If he loses it (no great surprise), then it would be between JT and Williams. I think that JT may very well earn the job in camp or sometime during the season. Any showcasing of Williams during the season (not that he hasn't already been showcased in Atlanta/Sac) is probably more as trade bait, just as if Mikki loses the job he could be traded. Of course, one of them (Williams or Mikki) is needed off the bench assuming KT and SAR remain missing in action.

Kings starting line-up 2008 - or at least into 2009:

PG Beno Udrih
SG Kevin Martin
C Brad Miller
SF John Salmons
PF Jason Thompson

Bench mob

PG Bobby Brown/Bobby Jackson
SG Francisco Garcia (also SF)
C Spencer Hawes
SF Donte Greene
PF Mikki Moore/Shelden Williams

MIA

Kenny Thomas
S. Abdur Raheem

Well where does Douby fit in here? Do you think he will be 13th guy and join KT and SAR on inactive list? I guess there will be a battle to see who makes the active roster. Except Brad will be gone for 5 games to start the season. For first 5 games does Brad end up on inactive list so Douby and Sheldon can both be on active roster or does suspension limit active roster to 11 players? Once Brad is back, somebody will have to join KT and SAR on inactive. I guess it will be the player amoung the 13 that is the most banged up at any point?

I sort of forgot Douby - but then again maybe he's the forgotten man for Kings 08-09. I think Douby is on the bubble for sure to make or at least stay on active roster.

CruzDude;

5 Brad - Hawes

4 Mikki - Thompson, Williams (KT, SAR?)

3 Salmons - Garcia, Green

2 Kevin - BJax, Douby

1 Beno - Brown

you feel pretty good when you start from the bottom. when you hit number 3 the stomach gets tighter. # 4 on up and you're regurgitating

The Kings can't send him down to the D-League anymore. NBA teams can only send down rookies and sophomores.

Is that some new rule? Dahntay Jones was in the D-League last season and he would not be considered a rook or soph (drafted by Celtics 2003). Mikki Moore was with Roanoke in 2002-03 (first playing for Pistons 1998-2002). That would put both of them in the developmental league at around 27-28 years of age.

You can play in the D-league at any age -- but you can only be ASSIGNED to the D-league when you're new. Dahntay was in the D-league because we cut him. Ditto Mikki -- he was there waiting for another call up to the bigs. But if you've got a contract with an NBA club, the rules are pretty restrictive about when they can assign you down.

I think it depends on Greene. If he's ready, then Cisco will likely get more minutes at the 2. But if he's not, then Cisco gets all the backup minutes at 3 and a few at 2, but there could still be 10 or so per game for Quincy playing behind Kevin. But not much.

I think how many minutes that Douby gets will depend on how well he can adjust. He's sort of between a rock and a hard place. Not really big enough to play the two at both ends and not skilled enough to play the pt.

I could see him at times on the floor with Beno in the right matchup. Douby could guard the Point and Beno could guard the shooting guard. I think that Douby's biggest problem is that he still hasn't learned to let the game come to him and take whats there. Could be because a couple of years were wasted with the point guard experiment, and only now is he trying to find his way as a shooting guard. Its all up to him. And the coach of course..

Douby was drafted b/c we had two other NYC products in Artest and Cisco. If you get enough NY products, chances are, one will be very good at playing ball. It's an odds game. Petrie was playing the odds, and in regards to Douby, he lost...so far. Douby is far from proving himself completely worthless. I an eager to see if he can make a difference this year, b/c if he can't, next year is a team option. And that would mean no more Doobie. For Douby to succeed, BJAX needs to convince him to lift wieghts like his life and butt depended on it.

I think it's safe to say that Douby being from NY had absolutely nothing to do with the reason the Kings drafted him. More like thinking he could actually "shoot the lights out", but that's another story.

I agree completely. Petrie tends to draft on skill level more than anything else. Seldom does he take a chance on raw upside athleticism. Gerold Wallace was one exception. I'm not going to argue the right or wrong of it, it is what it is. Anyway the word at the time was that Douby shot the ball exceptionaly well in his work outs, and perhaps Petrie envisioned another Bobby Jackson. He's always liked that player that can come off the bench and supply instant offense. Mad Max was another of that type.

I don't think that the final verdict has come in yet, but its close. Petrie is patient. It drives me nuts sometimes, but its probably a good thing to have when judging players. Some players are late bloomers.

I think the kings will find themselves in the most trouble if they dont see what they have with there oldest of the youngins (Williams, Douby )

Douby is an undersized SG that can shoot the lights out, but he won't get many minutes behind Martin. Douby's defense would also be suspect guarding larger SGs.

I am a big fan of Williams, and have wanted him here since he was in college. I got my wish, but I am not sure he is fit for this team. He's just an average defender (not living up to his 'landlord' name) a slightly above average rebounder, well below average scorer, and hasn't really improved since coming into the league. Also he has had weight issues.

Not sure what you are expecting from those two, but I think three years in the league is enough to gauge if a player can help your team.. Maybe they can go somewhere else and do a bit more i.e. Wallace, but for this team it's obvious with the draft picks, and the PT these two have got that they are not really meant for this "rebuild".

You've brought up something I've wondered about. Thats, what if Williams lost about 10 or so pounds. It seems that when he plays he appears to have roots coming out of his feet. I guess it could be just his style of play that he got used to in college. It just doesn't work in the NBA. If nothing else, they could both be trading pieces in part of a trade.

One proviso tho' is that in the past 3 years the Kings have had 3 different coaches with 3 different styles and none very conducive to rookies. That has hurt Douby. But with BJax here for couple of years, Douby my have a hard time getting any minutes at the 2 and therefore sliding down the bench a bit more. He'll have younger and quicker legs than BJax but will he be a better defender? That will determine who gets the minutes.

If Brown pans out he gets the minutes behind Beno along with BJax. What the Kings need now is a 2008 version of Randy Brown, a 2-3 who could literaly shut-down opposing players. That's why the Bulls took him during their championship run.

Bottom line, Douby is the biq "?" along with Greene. Tough to think Kings would keep both if Greene shows good stuff in camp.
